Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and Wind Waker
Super Smash Bros series
Mario Party series
Mario 64 (and Galaxy 1&2, for that matter)
Any StarFox game after StarFox 64
Perfect Dark and Goldeneye
Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 10 (despite forcing myself to beat them since I paid good money for them)
Kingdom Hearts series
Halo series

What about Nier? I see you've recently played it. I think that one deserves to be on your list, then again it is your list, but I couldn't help but notice it's haunting image on your profile. That game......well put it this way....I'd rather eat sh1t filled hog nads than play that. But like you said, if I paid good money for sh1t filled hog nads I guess I better eat em.:)

Reported. Anyway, I'm on my second complete playthrough of Nier. As in I've gotten all four endings, and I'm starting fresh from the beginning again. The dialogue is so ironic now that I've seen the full story.

{viral}

The game's story is nothing short of amazing and fresh, its character development nothing short of genuine. The soundtrack is fantastic, IMHO above and beyond even the likes of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night's divine tunes. Kids who ragequit before reaching Emil's mansion (or even worse, ragequitting on the fishing minigame) don't know. They just don't. They'll never experience the powerful, tearjerking, yet beautiful drama of the second half of the game, which only gets even sadder on New Game+. They'll never know what Shades really are, they'll never feel the pain of the bosses they've slaughtered, and most ignorantly of all, they'll claim they don't care. However, they couldn't possibly care any less than I do about their opinions, especially if they haven't even gotten Ending A yet. It's as though they don't even know anything about the game they claim to have played. The game is not without its flaws-- a painfully slow-paced first few hours, a poorly-designed fishing minigame, and merely average combat-- but beneath this superficial layer of complaints lies a truly epic story which goes beyond the imagination of anyone who hasn't completed it. IMHO, the virtues of experiencing Nier in its entirety vastly outweigh the flaws.

Ouch. Ok, I understand you have a right to your opinion, and I'll respect that, but what so fresh, or amazing about the story? I'll give you that the soundtrack is good, which I also liked, but the voice acting was so horrible that I had to turn off the in-game music, because you couldn't listen to one without the other. As far as getting to the ending, I couldn't stomach it, so I only finished maybe 10%. It's like eating a bad tasting piece of crap, just hoping the middle or end tastes better. No thanks. But I'm glad you liked it. Maybe I'll try to give it another shot, maybe it will grow on me, but what I've played previously I didn't like.

I've actually never read any complaints about the voice acting until now, and I've seen a lot of Nier discussions on **** of all things, where they hate almost everything that isn't S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Mount & Blade, and Demon's Souls. They acquired an all-star cast. Liam O'Brien (Weiss) in particular was god-tier. As for the story, the jump from Nier and Yonah in the near future to the Nier and Yonah of the distant future led me to believe the plot involved either:
A) Time-travel.
B) Reincarnation.
C) Alternate universes.
My mind was blown when it was D) None of the above. All I can say is that it turns the entire story upside-down. The relation between Nier and the Shadowlord, between Weiss and Grimoire Noir, between humans and Shades, and why Yonah is such an important character in all of this... The game takes what you think you've figured out about these elements and show you just how wrong you are. If you want to look up the spoilers, feel free to do so, but it doesn't compare to witnessing it unfold in-game. The characters also undergo strong and positive development along the way, and it shows. Kaine learns compassion, Emil grows a pair, and Weiss gets off his high horse, all in a believable fashion.

I honestly enjoyed the gameplay and how it kept switching things up. One moment you're solving block puzzles, the next moment you're fighting a colossal boss that spits "bullet hell" patterns (an homage to arcade cIassics like Dodonpachi), later on you're in a black-and-white haunted mansion (a clever homage to survival/horror games like Resident Evil) and there's even "text adventure" segments along the lines of Zork. You get different types of weapons later on, as well. The hack-and-slash combat was not terrible. It was standard action/RPG fare. Again, the game is not without its flaws, but I've certainly played much worse, and those with a shred of tolerance can enjoy the story as it unfolds and twists.

Honestly, if you don't care about the story, then I'll leave you to your own device. While I normally can't stand games which sacrifice gameplay for story, there's the occasional exception. Much like Silent Hill 2, Nier has fallen into that category for me.

Most recently it was Xenogears. I've come to the realization that I really only like JRPGs with lighthearted stories after playing this. The combat system was slow and simple, and the game was always so serious that I couldn't really stay interested.

Oh, I never said that I didn't care for the story, its just that I couldn't become captivated in the game to proceed far enough to grasp the story.I was playing Zelda Twilight Princess on the Wii, and it's visuals are even better than Nier! Visuals aren't everything, but it is a step back considering the release date of this title. Underwhelming graphics and bad voice acting is what my first impression of the game was, therefore I was already looking for more disappointing features in the game, and it seemed to provide them. Maybe we just have different tastes in games?

bad voice acting

godzillavskong

This part still baffles me because every Nier thread that I've seen on forums and futaba boards cites the voice acting as being good. Unrealistically high standards? The voice actors/actresses for Nier, Kaine, and Emil are professionals, their IMDB pages speak for them. However, Weiss' voice actor steals the show. Why? Three words: Liam Friggin' O'Brien. Look him up. Either way, the banter between the characters is single-handedly the most entertaining (be it emotionally charged, or just downright amusing) that I've read and heard for this gen. For what it's worth, I'd say Portal 2's dialogue comes in 2nd place, with how drop-dead hilarious it was.

Also, as for Twilight Princess aving better visuals than Nier...

No. I'll give you TP taking more advantage of the Gamecube than Nier takes advantage of the PS3/360, but if you really want to argue the graphic prowess of a Gamecube game to that of a game on a current-gen system, you'll be fighting a losing battle.
inb4 "TP is a Wii game" and "Wii is a current-gen system." It was designed for the Gamecube, and we all know Wii is just a Gamecube with a waggle controller.

That being said, Wii is my favorite console for "this generation" for its games.
Final Fantasy series. Yaknow, for someone who really likes RPGs, I just don't like Final Fantasy. I tried to get into it many times but just can't. The only FF game I somewhat liked was Tactics for PS1.

This next one I know people are gonna kill me for so, *flameshield up* Super Mario 64. Don't get me wrong I love the game but I just don't think it's as good as everyone makes it out to be. I find it doesn't really suck me all that much.

And last but not least.......Halo

Dark Cloud 1 & 2, played the original briefly and completed the 2nd one, trying to find what was so remarkable about them (GS gave it a 9/10), I found them boring, repetitive and flawed affairs. Sold my copy of DC2 on a heartbeat after being done with it.

Banjo-Kazooie. I recently downloaded the XBLA version, and I simply can't get into it. I'll play it for a few minutes, then stop.I loved Super Mario 64, but I just don't like Banjo-Kazooie. Collecting a bunch of stuff gets old after a while.

Super Mario Bros. 3. I know this is going to get some negative responses, but I'm entitled to my own opinion. I don't think it's a bad game by any means, but I do think it's very overrated. I don't find it to be as good as everyone else says it is. I prefer Super Mario World.

pretty much any Zelda game, I tried playing most of them (all of the main ones apart from Twilight Princess), and I just couldn't get into them.

Darkman2007

:o

That's just terrible!!!!

And as for metroid, I can understand someone not liking the prime series, but I have a hard time understanding someone not liking the 2D versions.

I never really liked Mario, except for the NES versions. All the other ones, especially the 3D versions just sort of feel like a dumbed down version of better platformers like banjo.

it seems to be a genre thing, because I didn't like Alundra either, and that was quite similar to Zelda in at least some ways.

well i can get into any game, given time but right away i dont think i got into halo 1 2 or call of duty those games just well bore me but i still give them a chance ,

and i never was big on the rpg genre but i have quite a few of those i actually just recently bought actually,

like final fantasy vii-though dont know how far i can get since im missing the 3rd disc , and i also got a few on wii and snes and n64 actually n64 i had quest 64 before any other rpg besides mario rpgs and paper mario

but my first final fantasy game i played was gba one , eventually i got the iv vii as mentioned , and the cc series

and then theres chrono trigger that wa s included with ffiv

and lodoess records of war for dreamcast havent played much of it but ya

any game is fine with me , as long as it dont rely on online mostly, online is one thing in this world i hate, is online multiplayer , that just bores me to no end, i liked split screen alot more cause you can actually see the person and you know the person your playing with

the thing with online you only hear their voice not knowing if they could be dangerous

and since xbox live taught me that there are more people who are in need of anger managment i dotn think ill ever pick up a mic again , seriously every single time im playing gta iv theres always a guy yelling cause they get shot or in my favorite mode of that game -race, the guy ends up crashing , he gets all seriously mad and for the whole time playing all you ever hear is well i cant say it here but you probably had this kind of experience on xbox live already ,but ya , as long as it is not multiplayer only , its fine with me

as far as tekken virtua fighter etc , ya i dont see why people argue over these , they all play alike, there is not much difference from fighting games,

not to my knowledge all i see is different arenas and different characters with different moves ,

but overall its the same objective,

just button mash til no end ,,

but there was one fighting game i cant stand its called ballz on the snes that game is corny ,

This will probably get me publically flogged, but... Castlevania. I played Super Castlevania IV as a child and it bored me, tried again with Symphony of the Night some twenty years later, same result. No idea why.

skooks
same for me. Castlevania simply seems to be just another 2d sidescroller to me. Sorry to all the cv fans out there.

Oh almost forgot RE. The only one I really enjoyed was RE4. The older ones are just crap IMO and I forced myself to beat the original on Saturn and 2 on PS1. Didn't even bother with Nemesis.

I get confused on why some people prefer Tekken over Virtua Fighter , since for me Tekken is more button mashing (still ok though) so there you go.

Any fighting game can be a button masher if you play it like a moron (not calling you a moron).

thing is, when I play Virtua Fighter or DOA, they do not feel like button mashers.

heck , Street Fighter and KOF don't feel like button mashers, but to me Tekken does, though at least Tekken 3 is quite fun.

I found a mint copy of OOT box and all for really cheap and bought it remembering all the raving reviews about Zelda and this game, but it bored me to near death and I couldnt even get out of the tutorial section because it was so boring. Traded in for a better game :) Also I couldnt get into Halo 1 and have never played any of the others because of this.

Well, if you play using all the combos, counters and grabs it becomes more enjoyable and strategic. There are a few characters that are very cheap though, Eddy being the biggest one.

believe me , Ive spent plenty of times trying to like the game, but I just can't. Tekken 1 sucked, Tekken 2 was mediocre, Tekken 3 was actually good, as was Tekken Tag, never played Tekken 4 , Tekken 5 is decent but nothing special , and Ive never played Tekken 6

Metroid. Very fun, but the inability to aim diagonally hurts me, and makes defeat super-common for me. I can't enjoy it at all without cheats.

I'm also very bad at Star Fox 64. I love the game, but have yet to get past the first encounter with Star Wolf...

Most of Prince of Persia. The game REALLY had it's ups and downs, but I've only beaten Warrior Within.

The Zelda games. I tried many times to enjoy them but to this day I still can't. I mean I respect the series but I just don't enjoy them though.

pretty much any Zelda game, I tried playing most of them (all of the main ones apart from Twilight Princess), and I just couldn't get into them.

I feel the same way about Zelda. I also hated Shenmue (very boring) and Okami. The gameplay in Okami was dull. It got high scores because of the art design.

Actually it got high scores because it is an amazing game.

I tried Earthbound, but considered it to be a mediocre RPG that doesn't even come close to FFVI, Chrono Trigger or Star Ocean.

Half Life 2 - Played it through to completion but only because of the fuss that was made about it. IMO it's a 7/10 AT BEST.

Super Metroid - Played most of it but lost interest. I've enjoyed lots of other 2D platformers far more than it.

Super Mario Bros. 3 - I actually like SMB. 1 better; It has an elegant simplicity to it. SMB. 3 just didn't grab me like other games from the era.

Halo - Had Xbox owning colleagues at work laughing at me for owning a PS2 and not being able to play the 'supreme' game that is Halo. So Igot an Xbox, played Halo... and hung my head in disappointment.

I have to agree. That's why I ended up playing through Metroid Zero, as it allows aiming diagonally and has some other extras.
