It seems that I am the only one who refuses to buy new releases for my PS3, mostly because I don't have enough cash for a game that's $60 and I don't know if it's good or not. Sixty dollars, that's six months of saving for me. So am I alone on not buying new releases (When it's new and expensive, like Skyrim)

There a lot of people who wait to buy games when they drop in price, there isn't anything wrong with that.

I almost never buy games at 60 dollars, but I usually buy the game new (when the price has dropped).

I only buy 2-3 new games a year.

Other than that I wait for price drops.

You don't have to be employed with a company to make money. Cut grass. Babysit. Deliver flyers/papers. I had a flyer route for 6 years when I was a kid. Bought a PS2 for nearly $600 (CAD, when our dollar was like $0.75 on the USD) all on my own with the money I saved (several years prior I also used the same source of money for a PS).

With rising costs of gaming hardware and software it can be hard for younger gamers to keep up. Not impossible though. Beyond what others have already suggested. I used to essentally make deals with my parents. Doing extra work and chores around the house (beyond what was normally expected of me) in return they would buy the game for me. I ended up making this into a regular thing, usually getting a new game a month from them for it. I did that until I was old enough to have my own means of making money.

Though I will say I was lucky in that my birthday fell just a few months before Christmas. Seeing how most new games come out around then I was able to get most new releases as either a bday or xmas present.

But there are ways to come up with the money to get new games. Just gotta get creative and never expect something for nothing.

I do it based on principle, there are people who have to have it now, want to chat on the net about the experience n such (same with TV shows as each episode comes out) but me i don't really care. I'll watch it down the line in order when Netflix has it/it's cheap enough/i'm ready to watch/play it. As it is i have a few games i haven't finished.

I don't wanna buy new releases either. $60 is asking for too much.

It's why I've been playing my PS2 a lot more.

$10 for an old PS2 game I never got to play is a lot more reasonable.

I make it a point now never to buy on release day. I bought Deus Ex HR at the seemingly bargain price of 29.99, just for a month later to see it drop to 14.99. (still new).

This year I bought several games at launch and was disappointed in just about every one of them. Hunted The Demon's Forge was the sole exception, I really had a lot of fun with that (Gamespot gave it a 5/10 in their review  ). But Shift 2 Unleashed had some wonky handling, and despite the huge amount of content in the game, nothing could quite make up for the arcadey oversteer that all the cars exhibited. Dead Space 2 - hey, Dead Space is in my top 3 games of this generation, but that was an action/adventure game. DS2 was a shooter. Walk to the end of the hallway, get to the room, shoot the monsters there, repeat 200 times. The story was crap too. Couldn't hold a candle to its predecessor. And both Dead Island and Rage got traded in before I'd even finished them. No story, no characters I could care about, just repetitive and utterly unremarkable combat.

And thank god I didn't buy Skyrim at launch - now that we've found out that once your game save reaches a certain size, the game becomes unplayable.

I'm going to drastically cut back on buying games at launch. Either they're buggy and need to be patched, or else they're only worth twenty bucks in the first place. That's fine, I don't mind being a year behind. I have just as much, if not more fun playing my fully patched and functioning games which I buy from the bargain bin.

I wait until they're $10-20, and even then I have to question over and over again if it's worth even that. So nope, you're not alone.

DecadesOfGaming

Eaxactly, I made that mistake with U3. I wait for the price drop and buy new. $60 is a lot of money to be disappointed. No matter how hyped up fanboys make a new release, after a month or two, it's old news and that's the best time to get it. With all this DLC crap, all new releases should be $29.99 - $34.99.

Take out the trash, work at a grocery store, go on a paper route, babysit kids, etc etc. There's always something to do, especially at the age of fourteen. You just have to ask instead of sitting on your couch and do nothing about the situation.

I only buy games at the full price if I know they will be worth it. Lately those have been Dark Souls, Skyrim, Deus Ex HR and BF3. Preordered those. Very roughly I estimate the hours I will put into the game and compare that to the price. So say I'll play Skyrim for 150 hours for 60 euro's, that's about 2,5 hrs of playtime per euro which is very high. Games with just one storymode or that I know I won't play the multiplayer of (Heavy Rain, Uncharted) I'll wait for a price drop. And gaming is an expensive hobby, unfortunately. I have to save up aswell, I try to keep up with release dates and start saving way in advance though.

I know plenty of people who can't afford a game because of their financial problem. Some people choose NOT TO buy the game until the price of that specific game goes down.

I wait on buying new consoles now. Take the ps3 fat and ps3 slim for instance. Fat model (first model) is more apt to breakdown compared to the slim model. By the time I get around to playing games on the new version of systems, the games will be less money and the new version of systems are more reliable.

have to make money, and besides that iv been gaming on and of for the last 25 years or so and from what i can remember games have been around this price for a very long time. I remember NeoGeo games used to be around £100 new back in the 90's.

If you carnt afford gaming take up the hobby that is called life, go out get some friends, meet girls (yea they are real not just mythilogical).

Or as someone else said do odd jobs for people :)

Moral of the story..........

....If you carnt afford it DONT DO IT :D

I would love to get myself a 3lt twin turbo supra but guess what....i carnt afford it at the moment so will have to wait till i get more money.

People nowadays seem to think its their right to game even if they carnt afford it and game prices should be dirt cheap so they can.

I personaly think they are good value........

Dvd £10-15 lasts around 2hours

Pint of beer£2.90-£6.00 lasts around 10mins dependant on who you are that is

Game £20-£4012hours-100's of hours

I usually spend a lot of time looking for deals for new games. If you know where to look you can often get new games cheaper than $60. I got Gears of War 3 for just $40 brand new, and got TESV: Skyrim for just $45 after taxes and shipping, brand new. I also picked up Madden 12 for just $28 brand new at a black friday sale. The only games I had to pay regular price for lately was Uncharted 3: DD, TLoZ: Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land.

50% of my latest new purchases were on sale, so that's not bad at all imo.

Games which I know are worth it get bought on the Release date.

Generally if I haven't got it on the release date, I'm usually waiting for a price drop...or I don't have the console to play it on... like Uncharted...or God of War 3... or Heavy Rain.

I should get a PS3.

I get maybe 1-2 games per year for $60 (new release.)

The rest wait for price drop or sales.

If you are really crazy for games, only then you should splurge your cash on games. Save money and use it wisely otherwise.
