[QUOTE="jasonharris48"] First off Bioware didn't develop PS Torment, Black Isle did. Also you mention that some WRPGs main characters are distant from the story and you mention PS Torment? The game story focused on the Nameless One for the most part. Also Geralt was very intact in the story and game world in the Witcher.

Why did you think I say Bioware seprate from Planescape Torment?

The Witcher main character was made before the game is out and did not allow the player any really freedom with choice of what he would do.

My bad on the Bioware and PS Torment part. As for Geralt, yes he is a character from a novel, he was still a character from a WRPG that is very much intact with the story (which goes against what you said). Wasn't that the point of your post?

Funny how your brought up The Witcher. It is a WRPG but you as the player can not make the choice of how the character will be. You can make some choices but who the character is and what are is view points are preselected. From what some say that is the only thing that makes a game a WRPG.

How can that be? There are so many older WRPGs that do not offer choices, let alone even have a story. Are we going to start dismissing those as WRPGs? Back to the Witcher sure those choices do not entirely shape Geralt, but they do shape the world around him. Also the the choices you make in the Witcher have a bigger impact in the world presented in the game compared to other titles I.E Mass Effect, where your choices are so grey.

There seems to be this weird belief in some JRPG fans that they can lay claim to any game that has a preconstructed character or is older than 2000. I've seen people say that Ultima and Wizardry games should be considered JRPG's and now I guess The Witcher should be considered one too.
