I used to play loads of RPGs/RTS/Puzzle games. But these days....well let's face it, all these genres (except maybe RTS, which has gone into multi-tasking overdrive) have dumbed down and aren't as good as they used to be. Games like Baldur's Gate and Monkey Island are long gone.

So rather than hold a grudge I just move where the fun/quality is, hence half the current gen games on my shelf are shooters. And most of them I've enjoyed immensely.

No, you're not alone.

I hate FPS's, and I can't stand the focus the industry is putting on them now.

[QUOTE="muthsera666"] I guess. Personally, I didn't see much story-telling. It was all about oppression, I got that, but there didn't seem to be much more to the story than the"defeat those who hold you down" kind of thing.muthsera666

Glad I'm not the only one who didn't finish that game!!

I thought that maybe something was wrong with me. :P

Nope, you're not the only one. I just didn't see any motivation in the game.

I stopped playing during the "Seadoo" mission. Took forever, and when it was all over I was severely underwhelmed.

I made it to Ravenholm, but I got fed up with the headcrabs coming from nowhere. I started it again, because it was supposed to be so great, but I don't think I made it past the second level.

There are far too many of them now, it feels like every week there's yet another shooter being annouced.Smokescreened84
That's an extremely hyperbolic statement. FPS games are a minority of the games released in any given year, on all three platforms. This terrible overwhelming flood of FPS games so many of you keep talking about exists entirely in your imaginations.

My motivation was seeing more of the game world. I played HL2 for the first time on the Orange Box for the 360, and fell in love with the characters and lovingly crafted environments all at once. Like, for example, Shenmue, it's just a game world I really enjoy simply being in. So I go back to it a fair bit. Alyx Vance is one of the best and most real characters I've encountered in a video game.

Well I'm sure you're not the only one. Personally I love them both online and offline. Of course I also love plenty of other genres and my collection of games sports a pretty nice variety. In actuality while not all genres get equal support there is a pretty steady supply of other types of games that get released outside of FPS games.

Honestly, I didn't see anything special about the environments. I've seen better. As far as characters, there weren't that many to worry about..

I like unique FPS games such as Prey or Clive Barkers Jericho or third person ones like Gears of War but other then that I think they're pretty boring.

This is like saying "Am I the only one not into Sports Sims and Racing games"?
