I know it's kinda LATE to discuss about a game that has been released 2 years ago and I've seen some good ratings and reviews for this game but am I the only the one* who found it tediously boring?

- The storyline is short and dull with some blatantly uninteresting characters and lacks anything that made first movie trilogy so unique. As a matter of fact if they changed the game title and protagonist's name, it makes absolutely NO difference.

-The rest is just.....grinding.....pure.....unrewarding....grinding. As a matter of fact I was OVERWHELMED by how big this deserted land of nothingness is, and how many times I'm gonnna have to do the same scrap over and over again. One can argue that ANY Open world game is like this, but when you take away interesting landscapes that are worth exploring (Like Witcher 3 or Assassin's Creed), side quests with actual variety, freedom to approach those said quests the way you want with multiple weapons, powers and equipment, (just a shotgun? Really?!) then all you're left with is a long checklist of shit to do and be rewarded with literal scrap. So you can use that scrap to upgrade the character & car and repeat that same checklist.

-And then there's the poor man version of Arkham Games melee combat system. Shadow of Modor got some heavy inspirations from Arkham too, but at least it brought its own flare to it. Max on the other hand is just tedious cycle of attack and parry with some decent finishers in between.

-The car chases and races are fun though, and it's great to see a well optimized PC game for once.

I think the biggest problem with this game is that it's open world game in the first place. What can a developer really do when all they have to work with is a literal wasteland. It could have been much more solid game if they instead focused on story and action either as linear missions or a limited hub-like world with side quests. OR GO FULL RPG.

Thoughts?

(* NOTE: 'Am I the only one' phase is not to be taken literally. Regarding any product at any given time there is always a group of people who share the same view and opinion )

Almost everyone thought this...

My personal feelings are that the game had great potential, really fun gameplay, ruined by mind-numbing repetition. I imagine they rushed it to time better with the release of the film, otherwise maybe it would have been given more development time? Who knows...

i played a few hours of it and gave up. i'd seen enough. it was horribly linear for an open world game and completely devoid of anything to make me think it was worth persevering with

Starts off good, but you just don't care what's going on.

It received very mixed reviews with much of what you mentioned being common complaints. I actually felt that I was one of the few that did enjoy the game. But I do have a bias when it comes to open world games. I find it easy to lose track of time and, for the most part, I can take on the story at my own pace and explore almost whenever I want. I liked the balance of vehicular and non-vehicular gameplay. Sure, the hand-to-hand wasn't anything too special, but I never felt too tired of it since I would be back in my vehicle soon anyway.

Yeah I thought it was pretty boring overall... they nailed the setting & vehicular combat, but it just got too repetitive.

I actually like it, but as others have said, the game had decent potential if it didn't become so repetitive.

Wait Mad Max? I thought it was a great movie and Mel Gibson was pretty badass in it not to mention Tina Turner.

If you are on the other hand are talking about the horrible brady movie trying to abuse the Mad Max name, then no you are not the only thinking it´s mediocre.

Having recently finished the game, I'd say youre right.

-the game has very strong first half, and some really beautiful areas.

-but the final 25% of the game was BIG letdown in otherwise great game. Really lame end game, that did not really fit into the rest of the game.

I did love taking over the whole map, and gathering collectables, but the main story missions were just average, and the end game missions lame. There were some iconic scenes, but most main missions were quite forgettable.

Biggest disappointment was that taking over the whole map did not really change anything. There would still be enemy vehicles and enemies would respawn in various locations even if you cleaned the map section of all threats, including finding the minefields...

Still, totally worth playing...

Fair assessment but I still really enjoyed this game. Contrary to an above poster, I thought it got better towards the end. The camps had some variety and I enjoyed finding the collectibles. I appreciated the combat because it wasn't overly complicated. I felt immersed in that world when I played and I recommend it.

I had taken over the whole map, apart from the north area. Then I went to the north, and to the 'fortress' of the main enemy. And it turned out to be...what? A casino/racetrack joint? Errr... That just did not sit with the rest of the game world, IMO.

I have finish this game and really enjoy it despite some problems that was not the fault of the game maker.

I admit I have though the open world was lacking a bit of variety but this did not bother me much. There is plenty of cool place to explore and plenty of stuff to see and explore.

For the combat, it's more realistic than Arkham. It's not batman that can almost fly but the very though Max. The combat is not perfect but I have like it so much and I am a big fan of Batman Arkham serie.

For the story, I like it short. I prefer much more short story such as Mad Max and Doom 4 than long story. So it's a matter of taste here.

All great points everyone. I just finished the game a week ago, thanks to game pass. I have never been one to notice things like FPS in a game but this one is very noticeable at times.

But holy cow! I was shocked by huge the map was. Things definitely got repetitive and there was so much more room for an actual story with the war lords and Hope and her daughter.

There were also some things that irked me. I was trying to get in the ship strong hold and could not figure out why they would not let me in even though I upgraded every part of the car possible and cleared out his map. Finally went online and found out that I had to build the Jack Archangel car as designed. That could have been better described.

Also the big race in Gas Town was crazy hard and nothing prepares you for it. Took me a few rage quits and 20 something attempts. I am still pissed.

Overall I still had a really good time with it, and glad I played it.

It's a great game with every single enemy base camp being unique rather than the same crappy copy/paste dungeon bullshit like in Skyrim (which everyone loves and do not call repetitive for some reason).

True that. The bases and different map locations have very unique feel to them, making exploration a joy.

One thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the racing. Death runs, while not hard, were rather tedious, and I could've done without them...

On the other hand, I loved collecting all the upgrades and parts for my vehicles.
