I'm saving my money and I should be able to buy one very soon. I just can't seem to find any "newer" news about it.

Nothing yet. People have speculated that they'll drop the price before the year's end, but there hasn't yet been any evidence to suggest such.

yeah, no evidence yet. But considering we last had a PS3 price drop two years ago at Gamecom, i would think that would be the best place to announce one. I mean it has been two years, it IS due.
They also got their ass handed to them by MS last year in Novemeber and December. I believe MS more than doubled the sales of the PS3, when just a year prior to that the PS3 had MS beat by a couple thousand units in November. This year it will be even worse if Sony doesn't drop the price.
Then again, Sony could be content with making a profit on each unit sold rather than taking a loss and gaining a few hundred thousand new consumers.
EDIT: I wonder if Kinect will enable MS to outsell Wii in December this year. last year, December wasnt even close even though MS won November with the Kinect launch. But i wonder if the casuals go with the Kinect this year over the Wii. Sony's already lost the casual war.

Due to the inclusion of the wireless moden and blu-ray, the cost of manufacture of a PS3 is higher than the cost of manufacture of the X360. Any pricecut Sony can make, MS can answer. Its speaks to MS's complacency that they haven't been more aggresive about pricecutting. Also, while Sony can compete with MS in the core market, the Kinect has made the X360 the darling of the casuals that used to make the Wii the bestselling system every month.
I think a PS3 pricecut will happen, but only after MS cuts the price of the X360 (something which hasn't happened since 2009 IIRC). This gen is a bit weird because Sony (who used to compete on price back when they had the lowest cost hardware) can't compete on price this gen (it has the highest cost hardware) and MS (who has the lowest cost hardware) hasn't seen fit to aggressively compete on price.

They must think that $200, the price of the cheapest hardware configuration on the market, is low enough. Sales have been consistently good, too, so it's not like they've had a reason to drop the price. That said, when their cheapest SKU is only $50 away from the Wii's current price point (it's $150 now, right?), not dropping just to be right on par with the Wii and undercut sales is odd to say the least.
