EA clinching the NFL rights didn't sit right with me because they shut their only decent competitor (2K Sports) out in doing so - very cheap shot indeed. Instead of improving their own game, they pulled out their chequebook. Disgraceful.
But, cheap shot or not, it was still good business because it helped secure the marketshare of one of their biggest titles, a title that was facing a credible threat from a competing company.
It's hard to knock a big company for doing what big companies are supposed to do. The interactive entertainment business is nothing more than that: a business... And EA is one of the industry's biggest 'players'. EA has shareholders to please, and those shareholders demand growth and returns on their investments.
EA's recent foray into hostile take-over territory with Take2 may seem like corporate bullying... but it's really just good business...

Not cheap, nor disgraceful...thats business. what it does create though, and did, is the concern for us...the consumers. We get hit because like you've stated, the need and desire for creating bigger better is almost gone. True they cant just keep us with Nintendo 64 graphics or anything like that, but they do seem to be reaching out and creating a monopoly, which they kind of did with NFL, but its surely different from anyother business the gaming rights is way different. Because another example of what EA did, but in a bit of a different manner, is THQ and WWE. Difference being the business meeting might ( I say might, cause theres no garanty) have been what some see cleaner. Meaning that it wasnt out of compition battle. SO...as you said, good business.
