"Analysts point to EA Chief Executive John Riccitiello's comments about Rockstar, recently published in the New York Times. In the interview, he asserted that Electronic Arts "represents a white knight" to Rockstar in many ways. The comment itself was made in the context that EA could offer Rockstar a stable company that can distribute GTA and other IPs to a broader audience, much like how its sports titles are embraced by all audiences."QJ.NET

Seeing this makes me think that EA is disrespectful.... I gave up on ordering burnout paradise after seeng this.....

What's your take on this ?

Considering that Take-two is a horribly run company, I agree that EA would/could provide a stable publisher for Rockstar.

Not really. They're a corporation, and corporations needs money. It's not unethical, and it's not hurting anybody, and I see no reason to be "absolutely disgusted".

EA clinching the NFL rights didn't sit right with me because they shut their only decent competitor (2K Sports) out in doing so - very cheap shot indeed. Instead of improving their own game, they pulled out their chequebook. Disgraceful.

But, cheap shot or not, it was still good business because it helped secure the marketshare of one of their biggest titles, a title that was facing a credible threat from a competing company.

It's hard to knock a big company for doing what big companies are supposed to do. The interactive entertainment business is nothing more than that: a business... And EA is one of the industry's biggest 'players'. EA has shareholders to please, and those shareholders demand growth and returns on their investments.

EA's recent foray into hostile take-over territory with Take2 may seem like corporate bullying... but it's really just good business...

Tehy are the big dogs...RockStar is rather new...more than less newer than EAgames, and what is said may actually be true, in a sense. EA would be able to bring the bigger paycheck in bigger, better advertisement that could very well reach muliple, or speak to multiple groups of different or atleast some similarity within the market. They have the staff power and time that other companies seem to wish for, similar to the company that is responsible for "Star Wars", Lucas what ever...within the movie business Lucas and people (not the actual name, but you get the drift) is the higher paying and higher achieving company towards many of the others. rather similar it is. Whether or not this act or these acts in distribution will actually increase still depends on two instead of one...one being the advertising and promotion, the second being the product itself

Not cheap, nor disgraceful...thats business. what it does create though, and did, is the concern for us...the consumers. We get hit because like you've stated, the need and desire for creating bigger better is almost gone. True they cant just keep us with Nintendo 64 graphics or anything like that, but they do seem to be reaching out and creating a monopoly, which they kind of did with NFL, but its surely different from anyother business the gaming rights is way different. Because another example of what EA did, but in a bit of a different manner, is THQ and WWE. Difference being the business meeting might ( I say might, cause theres no garanty) have been what some see cleaner. Meaning that it wasnt out of compition battle. SO...as you said, good business.

If gay peoples try to hit on me, I blush and thanks them but tell them I am straight.

I don't see why EA trying to purchase other is any worser. EA has a right to dream and prosper, as long as they don't harass.

Here's something to sit back and chew on for a moment. EA is a pretty huge and powerful company. Take-Two has gotten into a lot of problems with censorship and ratings boards due to the content in many of Rockstar's games. With the amount of pull and power that EA has, isn't it possible that some of those issues wouldn't have been challenged by the Jack Thompsons of the world if they knew they'd be going up against EA? Or at the very least, maybe some of those problems would have been swept up more quickly and quietly by an EA sized legal department?

Now granted, this opens up the question, "would a game like Manhunt 2 have been made with EA getting the final word?" but that's another issue. Though frankly I'm inclined to say yes. EA would certainly know what they're getting with Rockstar via a Take-Two acqusition and it would be insane to try to put a tight leash around them.

They're not doing anything unethical. Corporations get bought and sold all the time. TakeTwo isn't against the sell, they just want more money. In fact, there corporate execs are kind of being sleazy by holding out despite the shareholders desire for the sale.

I think as long as EA's interests remain only on a financial level and don't screw around with the creative dynamics of Take Two's talent then a buy out might be a good thing. I'm curious though if EA is expanding too much and perhaps just maybe will implode on itself.

I am disgusted by everything that is going on but in no way am I surprised. The fact that they are going after so much and trying to get a piece of everything has me wondering if things are going to backfire for them.

I am disgusted and annoyed at EA for a lot of what they have done, however, I wouldn't neccesarily criticise EA or say that they are a bad company becasue the ultimate goal of any business is to produce a profit and that's what EA are doing.

I'm more disgusted at Activision...they seem to be making tens of spinoffs of Guitar Hero, and are having Call of Duty 5 be done by Treyarch again.

Ethics here would be if EA tried to weed out the compitition in manners or ways that created uneasy development, we really dont need to worry until EA has a threatening hold on the gaming business creating what ever they want at any price.

I'm by no means a fan of EA throwing their checkbook around, but at the end of the day you have to remember that this is just capitalism at work. If EA doesn't buy Take 2 someone else will, and their names rhyme with "Microsoft", "Sony" and "Activision Blizzard". Besides, it's not like Take 2 is the picture of perfection.
