I wouldn't advise that at all. You're basically telling here, "Thanks, but no thanks. I'm not happy nor grateful that you got me something that I wanted, just not the exact thing. Try again harder." I sure would take offense if someone came up to me and said that, I'd tell them to shove it. She's not obligated to anything regardless of a work draw.[QUOTE="Rekunta"][QUOTE="muthsera666"] Honestly, I would talk to her, and explain that you are a collector. Tell her that it is your fault because you didn't specify which type that you wanted. Some people don't care what condition anything is in, as long as they get the game, and if she didn't konw you that well, you can't really blame her. Maybe her children or grandchildren don't care about the box, and she just assumed that you would feel the same. Ask her if she would be offended if the two of you could work something else out.muthsera666
Beggars really can't be choosers, and the TC has no ground to stand on in this situation.
No, not at all. If you place the blame on yourself for not making your desires clear, then it transfers the guilt that the other party would feel onto yourself. Thereby, they didn't get you a bad gift, you just didn't tell them what it was that you actually wanted. While this may not be the truth of the matter, it takes the pressure off of the one that purchased the gift.Telling someone that the gift won't work for you doesn't mean that you don't appreciate the gift. It strongly depends on the manner in which you talk to the gift-giving party.
Beggars may not be eligible for choosing, but those recieving gifts are able to ask for what they want.
It absolutely does. It's a gift, not a choice. That he is given a choice to say what he wants beforehand is a benefit, not an entitlement. He's given a chance to voice his preference of what he wants, sure, but in the end someone has gone out of their way and spent their hard earned money to get him something that they're not obligated to in the first place. I wouldn't care if I got barbie's horse designer for the DS for X-mas, it's the thought and effort that counts. It's the principal, and to stray away from that is to be ungrateful.

Ahh I remember when I used to be like that, young, naive, and WOW really! Someone gave you a christmas present and you are angry cuz its used! Spoiled Spoiled SpoiledIf someone gets you a gift, especially a gift as cool as a video game, you should be happy and accept it. That means the person cared enough to think of you.
-Nate-
I think you should be grateful that somebody even cares enough about you to buy you a gift. I don't care what I get, I always appreciate the gifts people give to me, it shows they care and it makes me feel happy that they care about me. I say accept the gift and be happy you got anything at all.Im_single
This guy right here is right. Appreciate everything you get. You're not gonna get your stockings stuffed forever.
Be grateful that you even got something.
It seems we've forgottenthe point of Christmas.
The point of Christmas is the birth of Christ, not exchanging gifts and being nice...^ -___-;
Anyway, unfortunately I recieved presents this christmas. I was grateful but couldn't shake the feeling that these presents were purchased by someone who felt they had to, because, y'know, everyone has to buy something for someone right? That's the problem with the holiday. It's good and all for the kids, but for adults it feels more like a drag... :/
IDK why it pisses me off so much, but this is the 2nd christmas in a row where I got the game I asked for, but it was used.
Actually, I know why it pisses me off. It's because when I get a game I treat it right. I keep everything in excellent to mint condition. I have a gaming library that I'm very proud of and when I get agame that looks like it it was drowned in a swimming pool then thrown off the back of a moving truck I'm not happy.
It's even more annoying when it's a cheap one that I ask for. I asked for FF3 (It's under $30 brand new) and she gets me a used copy. Now I got to go trade it in (i'll probably get like $5 for it, so I can buya real copy. From now on I'm asking for gift certificates.

Spirit of gift giving aside, I think I understand where you're coming from. For one, you are upset that the person giving the gift doesn't actually see your interest in games. For two, used games are extremely overpriced--I never understood them being only $5 dollars cheaper. So this gives the impression that the gift was just thrown in a cart, "okay, I got this person out of the way, who's next?"
I actually have a standing request with my family that I prefer used games over new that are on my list. Why? Because I get more games that way. Instead of one gift under the tree, I end up with several. Yay!
When buying a game as a gift, I try to get new, but sometimes it just isn't possible. I knocked myself out trying to find a specific game for my niece this year in new condition. NO ONE had it and the local gamestop only had one used copy left, so that's what she got. Did she care? Nope - she was just happy to have it.
As for the gift exchange thing. Dang, you're a whiner! Let me tell you about some of the CRAP I've gotten from secret santa things at work, like the year I ended up with two t-shirts that were two sizes too small with smart-ass sayings on them (I wear rather plain clothing instead of things that get me slapped by passing mothers of small children). Oh yeah...that was an exchange where we had the names of the recipient ahead of time. Good stuff....I would have killed for a used game in any of those damn gift exchanges I've been a part of in the past, so suck it up and play your game!
Isn't the point of a "gift" not expecting anything? You got what you asked for... why are you complaining? Perhaps you could be more specific the next time you ask for something?
I don't care if it's used. If the disc is scratched and doesn't work or if it's a game that sucks, then there's a problem.
Oh well, at least you got a game you actually wanted instead of someone randomly going to Best Buy or Wal Mart and picking out a piece of crap game out of the value bin like that other guy said..
...If the game works and you aren't missing anything because of it being used...who cares?
Seriously, I take very good care of my games too, never personally buy used, and won't even loan them to friends because I worry they won't care for them properly (actually I know they won't,because in the past I got discs returned all messed up). That being said, if I get a game as a gift, that all becomes irrelevant...I didn't pay for it. All that matters is that it works and that nothing is missing. I think you're being rather petty...
[QUOTE="marcogamer07"]if it's a game that sucks, then there's a problemAero5555It's a gift ergo you got it for free... Nothing is ever free. He may not have paid cash for it, but he paid in terms of personal relationship.

I dunno about anyone else but in my book that's bad/immature behavior. That's a different point entirely, one of which I'm not going to address.

I'd be grateful for the person thinking to get me something, but would I still be grateful if someone gave me food and I got food poisoning because of it?
If it has a negative effect, it doesn't make me bad/immature if I don't like a gift someone gives me..
The fact that you'd compare food poisoning to a bad video game which you got for free has left me speechless, just wow. And if you're curious, yes I'd be upset about getting food poisoned but I wouldn't go venting all my frustration on the gift-giver. It's not like they did it on purpose, and they'll feel bad about it regardless so all you're doing is pouring salt on the wound, which makes it uncalled for.I'd be grateful for the person thinking to get me something, but would I still be grateful if someone gave me food and I got food poisoning because of it?

It depends, you have the right to be upset. I know I have as well in the past. But when you actually express your dissatisfaction to the gift-giver (directly or indirectly) you're being immature. Bottomline, keep your dissatisfaction to yourself. If it has a negative effect, it doesn't make me bad/immature if I don't like a gift someone gives me..

Never ask for things you're truly passionate about from people who don't know you intimately. Gift exchanges and work draws suck in general. It's hypocrisy. Perhaps the person who had to buy you the present doesn't even like you.
I'm a music collector but only a few people are 'allowed' to give me cd's. And these people better go out of their way to get me the right ones because I do anything to get them their dream presents too. I'll put in effort, time, money. Whatever is needed. That's called love I guess.
If someone else gives me anything I'm just grateful. Socks or maroon sweaters. It's all good. Then it's only the effort that matters to me.
a game is a game too me, I pretty much always buy used.
if a game is new or second hand it does absolutely nothing to how the game plays so...
LOL! i asked for GOW 1 & 2 and CODMW2 used but my mom bought em new! :P the only thing that pisses me off about used games is when they dont have a manual, original case, and when they have a sticker on the inside of the cover branding the game forever used.
well, I guess it depends on the game but it isn't that big of a deal to me. Most of the used games I get are older games on PS1/PS2 but if it was a PS3 or Wii used game, it would depend on the quality for me to feel content (no scratches on discs, case/manual in like new).
