my first console was a sega genesis (fitting, i suppose) and im still very happy with gaming. this year alone, ive really liked journey, closure, dragon's dogma, and sound shapes and there are more i either missed or im anticipating. this generation, i'd put limbo, demon's souls, and dark souls among my all time favorites too.

i think we just train ourselves (publishers certainly help too) to keep going back to the same series' yearly or biyearly and inevitably get disappointed when they decline. there is a lot of new and exciting stuff out there and the classics will still be classics if they were ever any good (outside of some online games that lose that support. then its just tough sh*t :P ).

Many interesting opinions in here, thanks. I have never stopped to reflect on the wonders of digital distribution, or the issues of increased development costs....But what do you think about things like Battlefield Premium i.e. services that divide gamers? There are people who cant enjoy the game as much as others because the servers are starting to have content that they do not, thus they cannot join. They are being marginalized for not paying more.

IronBeaver
Definitely. Map packs are the dumbest form of DLC around because they immediately divide the community and start killing off multiplayer. If they're going to have DLC maps should be free, custom classes and skins should cost money.
