if the game is over 70$ then its not worth it unless only 40,000 copies were sold in the US(Panzer dragoon saga) worth 250$ for US version 90 for japanese

the only games i've payed for that were over $100 were imports that are not easy to find. Please let us know specifically what you're looking at so we can make a better judgment.

well, I spent £60 (more or less 80-90 dollars), on the PAL version of Panzer Dragoon Saga, I felt it was worth it, because its one of my favoutire games.

by comparison, I spent £4 on die hard trilogy, which sucked, and I felt i paid too much for it.

see what I mean? it depends on how much you like the game.

Depending on your idea of expensive and the rarity and quality of the game. For an epic RPG installment, let's say, pff, Xenogears, I'd pay 20 bucks if I really wanted it. I know it's good for it. But in a case of let's say,.. Any Virtual Boy game, I'd not get it unless the price is right.

I look at classic games and their prices according to how much they mean to me, not the rarity of the title.

I have no interest in Panzer Dragoon Saga since I never played it when I had my Saturn, so the price tag on a copy is something I will never even consider since it has no sentimental value to me. I know that it is considered to be one of the best, but I also feel that the people who have spent $200 + on a copy will tell you that it is worth it to help them justify their purchase.

Games that are special to me like Contra, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc. that I played many times when I was younger and still enjoy today are worth more to me than $200+ because they are memories that cannot be replaced. I dunno, to each their own I guess.

i consider expensive games to be any that are over their original retail. dropping 40-50 bucks for a used ps2 game that i cant find isnt that bad since it was 50 at some point so it lessons the blow. paying $100 for the same game would really make me think unless i really wanted it. i cant think of any games ive bought that i paid an excess for. some of my rarer games came in bundles i bought off craigslist or fleamarkets. an occasional good eye on ebay has yeilded some nice ones too.

I don't think anybody should pay 200 dollars or pounds for a game, its silly, I got Panzer Saga for £60 when it usually costs more then twice that, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

I was fortunate enough to have bought most of the games that interest me on my systems of choice during their original release date and at their original retail price. The most expensive console game I've bought was Dracula X for the PC-ENGINE which I paid around $110 + S&H for it back in 1997.

I would never pay over $100 for games like Radiant Silvergun or AZEL or any other console games, but obviously I think this way because I've already play them. If I had missed them the first time, I really don't know if my itch to play them would have got me to pay the high price they go for nowadays, but I doubt it.

Of course I've spent over $100 for a lot of arcade PCBs, but that's totally another matter, since on the arcade market scene a lot of games that you can get for over $100 or even $200 can be considered cheap purchases.

I also have to say that I don't get people that want to get the best games for X system but only want to spend a small amount of money on them. That's just not gonna happen. A lot of games that people consider expensive pay over $10 or $30 or whatever for them, are still under their original retail price.

For example on the Mega-CD I've noticed most people would rather pay $10 or so for rubbish games like Night Trap, Jurassic Park, Sewer Shark etc. than $40 for games like Bari Arm, DENNIN ALESTE or Lunar. Then they can't stop complaining about how the system is rubbish because they only want to spend $10 for their games.

I'm not paying more than $60 for a game period. And for me to pay that much, I have to REALLY want it. That last time I paid more than $50 for a game was when TMNT:the arcade game came out and I bought it new. With so many alternative ways to play rare classic games, spending all of that money is not worth it to me. Also, I think as time marches on eventually very rare games will become more available. One day Panzer Dragoon Saga may be in a Panzer Dragoon collection or some anniverary pack Sega releases. Believe it or not there was a time my MvC2 dreamcast game sold for over $70 on ebay(I kow because I sold two of them) and Guilty Gear X was $70+ as an import. Now those games are widely available on other systems for a very reasonable price. Just my two cents.

Edit:the only way I'd pay more is if peripherals were included (i.e. guitar hero, a fighter that came with a custom stick, etc.)

I've had my eye on Panzer Dragoon Saga for a long time, I just cant justify the cost for an English friendly copy.,that said for 60 pounds you found a bargain. I was amazed to find that I could use my save file from the demo disk on my Japanese copy. At least I now have a vague idea of what's going on.

Depends on the rarity. I remember I bought Star Ocean 2 off ebay for about £30, at least half the price of others that I found. No way was I gonna pay more than that for it. Some people do have a bit of a laugh when they're pricing games and just want to charge an obscene amount. Then, I am stricly opposed to paying for them. I think £50 is my maximum.

It depends on the game. If it's truly rare, say a couple of Saturn games and possibly some Dreamcast games in the near future, probably. But I wouldn't spend that much on a game no.

It depends on the price and the game. I spent about $100 combined for Tomba 1 and 2 and they were worth every penny.

$30 for a good Super Nintendo game doesn't sound too bad, I would pick it up for that price (dependingon the game, of course, Super Mario World, for example, isn't worth that much.)

If you like to collect rare games, then yes, the expense is worth it, in my opinion. If you're just buying a used game that is expensive, and you just want it for awhile, then no...

It depends how much you want the game, and how much money you have. If you are fairly stable in cash, then it's easier to spend a larger amount of money. For example, I'm collecting a copy of every Xbox game with a release in North America. I managed to get ahold of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II for only $20 or so, but there are going to be other games more expensive, such as Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Now, I'm not going to get the first copy I come to, but at some point, in order to get it, I'm going to have to pay more for it than I would another game. But that's the price of collecting.

I don't think the price of a retro game specifies how great it is, the price usually specifies how much of a collector's item the game is.

With games, I like to endulge myself. I usualy buy the best edition of current games that I can get my hands on (i.e. Halo 3 Legendary & MW2 Prestige). When I see an expensive retro game I take into account a few things. I aaaalways shop around and price things. One game store near me wants $50 for SMB/Duckhunt on the NES >O.

Oh. Yes, the topic. XD In short, expensive games are worth it if you think they are but make sure you shop around so you don't get ripped off.

I always get my old games cheap. If it goes up to even £7 I start to go "hmm... let's look for cheaper". I always buy my old games very cheap. About 6 or 7 years back I re-bought Resident Evil 3 for the PS1 for about £2... it was MINT like brand new! seriously even the case had no scratches (I don't mean cracks :P) on it... everything was crystal clear to look at!

I bought the SNES in '95 just so I could play Chrono Trigger. So essentially, I paid over $100 to play it. Dude, some games are just worth it.
