Yes. It was understandable in the NES era because of limited space but when you have DVD's and blurays theres NO excuse to make a game thats 5 hours long and then try to say a fully price is justified by optional multiplayer.

Well, to be fair, all aspects of the games require more memory--the audio in particular. Don't forget there are usually alot more people working on any given games these days, which leads to a bigger budget.

Well that's all relative due to the power of the hardware. NES carts didn't need to have large storage space because you could only do so much with the things that take up most of the space that being graphics and audio. Not only that but what was considered lots of space back then is way different then what's considered lots of space nowadays. Also it totally depends on the whole package of the game. You can't simply say that a game is short by merely pointing out one aspect of a game.

[QUOTE="muthsera666"]1 Game @ $60 @ 8 hours of gameplay = $7.5 per hour of entertainment. 1 DVD @ $20 @ 1.5 hours of watching = $13.33 per hour of entertainment Games may be getting shorter, but they're still one of the better prices per entertainment.Heirren

Excellent point. Plus, I tend to replay games way more than I rewatch movies. No, they aren't too short at all.

This is flawed logic. One reason being, dvds do NOT cost $20 anymore. Blu Rays do, but most dvds can be had for $5-10, and never more than $15. There are special editions that may be $20, however that usually means there's a load of extra content. Another reason is quality and lastability. How many times are you going to go through a given game? How many times is the Godfather going to be watched by various people? Too many variables.

Actually, DVDs often cost over $20, I know because I currently work at a video store, and most DVD's are more then $20, and special editions are almost $30.

So that logic makes perfect sence, Video games are worth way more then DVDs for me, since I rarely find myself re-watching movies and replay games quite frequently.

You could beat a lot of NES games in thirty minutes or less, they were just so obscenely hard that no one noticed.

Really? Because I pick up blu rays for under $20 a lot of the times. Dvds are cheap, unless they are Disney. I gave up renting when buying dvds became only a few dollars more.

...

NES games were short, but it goes to show how they relied on good game design over flash to sell.

I dunno.... it took one to two days of playing time to complete the original Final Fantasy on the NES so that proves that your theory is wrong.

no kidding!!! games are much shorter today.all the recent games i have bought are short.dantes inferno, bioshock 2. i think its because they are trying to soak more money out of us with those downloadable contents.you buy the game, then you have to pay more for the DLC stuff.its a smart way to get our money but its not cool.hopefully god of war 3 is not as short as dantes inferno.....

Yes and no. A lot of the action games out these days are way too short. Games like Grand Theft Auto IV though you could virtually play as long as you wanted, assuming you don't get bored with it. It all depends on the type of game.
