Is it just me or are JRPGs just not as exciting as they were even 6 years ago. It seems games have advanced so much that a game like FF13 just feels so out dated and old like I'm playing a **** nes game. The stories are just terrible, turn based combat systems are rarely fun and the character designs are plain ass. I mean if master chief were called hale and he was covered in zippers do you think anyone would play halo?

They're just as exciting as they were 6 years ago, but they've become even more niche. FFXIII is a pretty terrible JRPG, too, although it nails the Suikoden trick of making the player want to quit playing for the first dozen hours. But others, from Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Valkyria Chronicles (maybe a slight stretch), Persona 4, etc...they're still kicking around. I don't think Master Chief's suit is the pinnacle of design, either.

I think the TC is outgrowing the genre, and is stuck on nostalgia. Granted, there hasn't been a whole lot of great JRPGs for home consoles this generation (except maybe Valkyria Chronicles), but Persona 4 came out just a couple years ago, and Sakura Wars is a recent release. But handhelds are where the best JRPGs are at this generation.
