Are off brand cables just as good as MIcrosoft, Nintendo, Sony ones?

Okay, tomorrow I am FINALLY getting and HDTV. I have a 360, Wii, and PS2.

For the 360, I can just use any HDMI cable as far as I know right?

And for Wii and PS2, could I just use one of those multi-platform component cables? Is the quality not as good? What brands should I stay away from?

I guess that's all, do I need anything else for an HDTV? Any other upgrades?

Yeah, from what I understand, any HDMI cable will work fine. Ditto for component cables, as long as they say they're made for the system.

Yeah it's not gonna matter. It's *really* not gonna matter for HDMI cables...you can totally get the cheap ones unless you need some ridiculous length.

If you are paying more than $5 for an HDMI cable, you are getting ripped off. Ive seen bestbuy charge $100 for a HDMI cable, its a complete ripoff. try newegg.com

I always thought retailers trying to aggressively get you to buy the expensive stuff were snakes, never bought into it of course, unfortunately Fry's is the only one I know that sells cheap HDMI cables, $5 for 6 feet, you can get things for pennies though on Amazon, just pay shipping costs and that's about it, also a great place to buy network cables, component cables, etc

yeah amazon is great too.

i used to work at bestbuy and bought a HDMI cable with my employee discount for $5. The were selling it for $90. The cost to BB was only $4.50.

Well it depends. Some of them might be just fine, while others could truly be absolutely terrible quality.

I got myself a cheap HDMI cable from this website (idk if i can tell what one). Don't know the price anymore though, 10 bucks maybe? Original stuff was way more expensive. This one works just as fine though.

Go here: http://monoprice.com

I bought one of those multi-console component cables in order to use my PVR, and they work great.

HDMI is HDMI - as a digital signal it's not subject to any of the interference that may have plagued analog cables (and even then the Monster brand analog cables are snake oil, just not to the same degree as an expensive HDMI cable). If you pay more than $5 online for an HDMI cable you're getting ripped off, and maybe $10 in a retail store. I like Monoprice for HDMI cables - or cables of any kind, really.

HDMI you can get any kind of cable will be fine, since my TV's HDMI port broke down I have to use component cables for my PS3. I noticed a difference in component cables compared to HDMI ; the sound is inferior and picture quality is slightly inferior. With component cables, the quality of the cable makes a difference, but still HDMI is the way to go.

With regards to component cables, you don't have to use the Nintendo or Sony brand ones, but try to avoid cheap knock-off cables build from bad materials and parts. HDMI is HDMI is HDMI, but a poor quality cable can still lead to issues down the road. Buy them from reputable sellers that offer a decent return policy, so if the cable is bad the first week you can have it replaced. Newegg and Amazon are both good about price and warranties.

I saw a test on TV which compared expensive HDMI cables with cheap ones and guess what? There was no difference.

I bought a Mediabridge HDMI cable for 9.99. As good as any 75$ Monster or Sony brand one.
