Dragon Quest games on DS (IV, V, VI and IX) all feature old school turn based combat. The Final Fantasy games (III, IV, 4 Heroes of Light) on DS also have turn based combat. Radiant Historia is somewhat turn based, but it's more about strategy and manipulating the flow of trns. Basically, on the top screen, you can see the turn order for the next ten turns. You can change the order as you see fit. The reason for this is because battles take place with enemeis on a 3 by 3 grid. Using special attacks, your goal is to make it so you have as many enemies on the same spot as possible in a given set of turns (where your party members attack once in a row) and try to finish them off with a powerful attack all at once. It's not as complex as I amde it sound, but it is a hell of a lot of fun.
Although, if you love old school mixed with new ideas, Dragon Quest IX is the way to go. It has a very old school turn based battle system, but a lot of modern features, like addictive item hunting, customizing appearance with armor, and other things. Really, the game is a god send if you love old school grinds. The entire post game is pretty mch an endless grind; grind for levels, grind for money, grind for rare alchemy items, grind for good equipment, grind for quests, etc. It has infinite content since each random dungeon you find gives you a map to another random dungeon, plus there are 184 quests to do (120 to begin with, the other 64 available after downloading them for FREE) and the main story has a deent length. (Took me 55 hours.) I'm 122 hours into the game and I still have plenty of things to do, monsters to kiill, tiems to find, etc. If you love the idea of old school JRPGs but would like some modern cnveiniences (no random encounters. Instead monsters appear on the field, which really helps the pacing of the game a lot) then you must play DQIX.
Only recent one I can think of is Persona 3 and 4. Great games, I'd highly reccomend them. Also, Bravely Default Flying Fairy is said to sort of be like older Final Fantasies, so I'm assuming its turn based as well. It has not been localized yet though. I can't think of any more, traditional turn based RPGs are pretty rare nowadays. There's gotta be something I'm forgetting though....

Chrono Trigger on DS. Well, it's ATB (Active Time Battle) guage but it's still worth playing.
Also, TC, if you have access to GBA games, try finding a copy of Final Fantasy 1 and 2 Dawn of Souls. Old school as it gets.
Lost Odyssey was going to be my suggestion. But if you have a ps3, download Ni No Kuni demo. Its not turn based, but the battle system is something completely new and good.looking for a new rpg, but i think i played em all.

Valkyria Chronicles is a turn based rpg tactical shooter ps3 exclusive, and a really great game. Or Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross is on PSN. Breath of Fire 4 is too.
You could try X-Com. Not really in the rpg genre, but it has turn based tactical battle. The 360 has a lot of indie rpg's you could look into.
That looks great! Sad that they aren't making it for PS3 though. If it's old-school RPGs you want, make sure you keep an eye out for Pier Solar HD. :)
