Here's the thing: AC2 was and still is my favorite game of all time besides Mass Effect. MW2 comes 3rd, sorry. Now, to the point:

If they put AC2 in Modern Times, it wouldn't make sense. Even if it was really epic assassinations, it wouldn't help one bit,it would be contrary. This is why: if they have Desmond go into a building to assassinate soem really corrupt businessman, guess what!!!! Cameras, Thermal Lasers, etc. You get the point. Today, we have better security, even if Desmond is trained in many ways. Cameras can actually see stuff coming to them, maybe not a bullet, but any thrown object coming is recorded. It would be really hard to get to the guy.

Also, there are so many better choices! China, for one. The architecture would be amazing, and if they choose the Medieval Times over China, I'm going to personally beat up the Ubisoft brainstorming team. Anyway, China has a lot of cool architecture and you can just run around, cause China is actually really cool! They could incorporate the Terra Cotta Army! The Great Wall! ETC.!!!!!!

Why not The Aztecs, or the Mayans. Not against the Spanish, cause that wouldn't make sense. It would be too hard, since the Spanish out-teched the Aztecs 1000000-1. Maybe little pathetic Tribal wars between the mayans or Aztecs! it would be really cool!

What about Rome? Greece? Socrates, or another genius could act like Leonardo in AC2~ What about other kinds of places! Jeeze, you'd think they would choose ANY other place. The Medieval Ages were actually sort of boring, since we have lots of that architecture now.

Seriously, ATLANTIS would be better than times with guns. Guns take away the entire point of this game, if you ask me. Gone is the stealth style of the game. Gone is the fun of aticipation when you can jump out of the hiding place and strike your target. Gone is the way of the hidden blade. Gone is the way of lots of awesome up-close combat techniques. GONE IS THE WAY OF ASSASSINS CREED!!!!!!

Your opinions, if you will....

Nice blog. :P

But in all seriousness, why is this though even coming into your head?

If anything, having Assassin's Creed put into modern times would be cool, if you have the patience. Instead of killing your targets up close and personal, you'd use a sniper rifle. Then plan your escape route. Even have a couple faction buddies blockade some areas and set up ambushes. An arsenal consisting of numerous gadgets, weaponry and disguises. And you can still have all the acrobatics and such when it comes to escaping if you don't have a car.

Did you seriously put any thought into this? If you change the setting, you need to change the character and the game play elements to a certain degree.

There are already rumours about the third game being set during World War II and having a female lead. And if the naming convention from the previous games holds (Altair and Ezio both mean "eagle" in Arabic and Italian respectively), the main character will probably be named Arlette ("eagle" in French) and be a member of the French Resistance (considering that the Knights Templar were from the Holy Roman Empire, which was known as the first "Reich" in Germany, which would easily have fictional connections to Nazi Germany).

I got the feeling from some aspects of AssCreed 2 that the third installment might take place in Russia maybe around 300 years after Ezio's time which is about the same amount of time between AC and AC2.

So maybe late 18th/early 19th century Russia which would still allow for sword play but guns (flint-lock muskets) would play a bigger role and I think that was a pretty toilmatious time for Russia so it would allow for interesting story but also France, England, America and other places could make for a great setting in that time period or maybe even multiple locations which would be even better.

Some of TC's ideas would make for cool worlds to explore but I don't think any of them really fit the Assassin's Creed story line, I just hope they don't focus to much on the modern stuff with Desmond unless they do a much better job of it because I felt that was the weakest part of AC2.

I'm for a 1700 to early 1900's setting as well. Part of the appeal of AC is the fantastic looking old cities, even though they didn't get every square inch of them correct. And the full on guns, no on that one as well. Hopefully they'll find a time period that will work. Possibly the very start of it all, if AC I wasn't, to stop the entire chain of events from happening. Who knows.

As I'm all for keeping it out of the modern era, I think a prequel to the first game would suit it better.

There's honestly no reason for Desmond to go back into the animus. The bleeding effect gave Desmond everything he needed and the animus showed him where he had to go and what to do. The problem with most of your logic is that this is a video game. You're actually limiting yourself to what you know is in the real world. It's like you guys are too afraid of giving the modern day setting a chance.

How about that brutal 30 Years War that took place in Germany during the Reformation? The setting does need a religious context.

Like it or not, it's bound to go modern with Desmond for either the next game, or the game after that.

And with Splinter Cell Conviction (another Ubisoft Montreal game), I don't see why it would be that hard for it to be set in modern times. (Given a few tweaks to fit AC's gameplay)

I think that the Revolutionary war would be a great place to put it. They could incorporate the Masonic order of that time and assassinating the British. I think Japan and China is pretty worn out considering all the Ninja and Samuri games. On the other handthere has never been a Rev. war game to my Knowlage. Even if they do have guns they wouldn't be very effective considering the low fire rate and the little range that they have. Benjamin Franklin would be a great substitute for Leonardo in the Second Game because he was a man of all trades in that time.

But you play as desmonds ancestors so it would make no sense to put it in China because Desmond is obviously not asian.

AC3 in modern times would be like GTA4 but with less focus on driving, more focus on killing, and acrobatic platforming.
