PSN has a few good games like this. Previously there was fl0w, and this week we get PixelJunk Eden. I'm excited for PixelJunk Eden. It has a similar vibe to fl0w, but it takes those artistic elements and makes it work as a game. Sometimes I think games lose track of being fun when they try to be artistic. As far as a really 'Avant Garde' game goes, you should check out The Night Journey for PSN. I don't know when it is coming, but it looks stranger than any game I've seen before.

XBLA is getting a game called Braid here in a few weeks that looks like a 2D platformer at heart, but involves going forward and backwards in time to beat levels. It really looks phenomenal.

It seems like these downloadable services are getting a lot of these nontraditional games since it is safer for them to release them as a downloadable game than a full $60 release.

yeah, Goichi Suda (Suda51) said something like that. I think its great, the video game industry needs more of these games. Most of these games out on the market these days are the same games that have been made over and over agian, which turned me off of video games for a couple years and one day i picked up Killer 7 and it blew my mind.

i just saw a youtube vid of Pixel Junk Eden, looks pretty spectacular

Problem with these games is that they usually don't sell to well within the mainstream market, making it harder for developers to make them.
