Beware of Gamestop-dot-com and their online distributor "Trymedia"!

If you buy any game from their website, you are not buying it from GameStop, you are buying it from a crooked outfit who ripped off my 14 year old son and would refund his money. In fact, they charged us 2 times for a game that would not work on our computer. My son asked my wife for help to download a game from this website while I was at work, and when I came home I found that the game was not compatible with our computer, an honest mistake to anyone who is not really computer smart. When I contacted Trymedia games through a web based entry customer support, they told me I should buy a new operating system and they would not refund my son's money. A few days later, we had another charge on our visa card and now Trymedia games is no longer responding to our requests for help on the issue.

Beware, if any game does not work with your computer, you will be out of luck and out of money. Nobody to call, nobody to help you with an honest mistake.

Buy a new operating system? What are you using, Windows 95?

But really it is your fault. Your son should have checked to make sure it would work before buying it. And it being a PC game, them not giving you a refund is understandable as you could install it then get a refund but still be able to play with a no cd. (which is legal if you have a disc, so please don't mod me)

Though the fact that they charged you twice and aren't responding is pretty sketchy. I would maybe try contacting Gamestop about it. Or file a complaint.

a basic task when picking a pc game is checking the system requirements. if the site made system requirements viewable, it is the customer's responsibility to look at them and make sure it will run on their hardware.

You should still be able to return a purchase though..digital or not. They can revoke your authorization to play it or something. And if they can't, and he did buy a new OS, he'd probably have to re-buy the game anyway. They don't sound like a great company..

the general concept that madisdad is trying to do is just warn us to be careful when purchasing games online, to actually be buying through a credible source. And madisdad, correct me if Im wrong, doesnt care that the game doesnt work on his OS thats an honest mistake and can easily happen to others. The fact that he was not given a refund and then was double charged was the part that bugs him.
Not giving a refund is legal if they state they have a no refund policy or that they have certain criteria you have to meat in order to return your purchase, so thats just unfortunate that your son downloaded a game that didnt work on your OS.
Them saying to buy another OS is just unprofessional and is bad business etiquette, so nothing you can do there really either except hope that their lack of human relations comes back to bite them in the ass.
The thing Id be most concerned about and would contact my credit card company or possibly take legal action is the double billing. That is not legal under any instance and you should not just let them walk over you for that, even if the game wasnt expensive it sets the bar for the next unforunate consumers.

not getting refunds is standard for digital downloads. its just a con to balance with the pro of convenience.

I heard bad things about Trymedia. They put adwares or malwares in their games.

I had Luxor 2 once and everytime I play it there's a little hidden adware file that loads. Not a good thing.

But his son was 14. Everyone makes mistakes. I made many mistakes in the past of buying PC games that wasn't compatible with my system. That's the bad thing about PC games. Some games work and some games don't work well, even though my system requirements exceed it.

My point exactly, most people do not have gamer PC's, and so it is better to buy from a store with a return policy.

My other point was, a purchase from gamestop.com is not supported by the big company named "game stop". Rather, it is a one way street company who has no customer support. They are there to collect you money regardless of what your experience is with the product.

I had a really lame experience, and I will never ever shop at game stop again, there are too many other reputable companies out there who will ensure you have a good experience.

I suggest people do the same. In this competitive market, you have to support the businesses who support you, the only way to differentiate the product experience.

Call your credit card company. Dispute the charges. Watch TryMedia not bother to fight you.

I feel sorry for you and your son but checking th erequierments is pretty much common knowloage and getting a refund is out of the question once you opened the game and even downloaded it.As for the credit card part i know some before me said this but you should just talk to your credit card company about that they'll help.
