As far as Single Player experiences go:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution: A Third person stealth/shooter/RPG hybrid. Able to do side missions with some storylines in between the major story missions. Great plot, and while it does not excel at any of it's aforementioned genres, they all blend together perfectly to create one of the best single players I've played in a while. You and I are most likely going to have very different playthroughs, if you do pick it up.
Skyrim: Huge open world RPG style gameplay. Much more accessible than previos Elder Scrolls entries. If you're looking for intense plotlines and amazing characters in an RPG don't look here, but if you're yearning for a helluva fun RPG to waste countless hours exploring and customizing your character (all the while slaying cool lookin dragons) this is your game. Buyer beware: this game is known to be buggy.
Dark Souls: No story. No narrative. Only a bunch of demons and beasts needing a beatdown. This game focuses heavily on gameplay and PvP, and is one of the most difficult titles realeased this year. RPG style progression, the variety of player builds and equipment choices is staggering. If you're easily frustrated, pass on this game. If you are seeking amazing boss fights, a satisfying challenge, and are a little masochistic, this is your game.
Gears of War 3: IMO, the best 3rd person shooter on the market. Gritty, brutal shooter. The conclusion to the Gears trilogy, I'm sure you know enough about this series already. Best Gears of War to date, and the MP is also top notch, albeit with a learning curve. Co-op and Online Campaign make this game fun through many playthroughs.
Batman: Arkham City: Probably the best action game releasd this year from what I've heard. I haven't played it myself, so I can't say much. All I know is this game is rated highly EVERYWHERE, and I want it.
Fallout New Vegas: Moral choice driven RPG from Obsidian. This game is already filled with 100+ hours of content, and you factor in some of the quality DLC's and your social life can be non-existant. FPS, RPG elements, you can choose to be an axe toting maniac, a sharpshooer, or a straight up brawler. Level up and distribute points to skills of your choice, and learn unique perks that you can use to cater to your playstyle. Great game.
Off the top of my head, this is what I've played recently.
