What do you think the best and worst sequels are this generation and why?

BEST:

• Assassin's Creed II: Improves on the original in almost every way.
• Saints Row 2: Improves on the original in almost every way.
• Saints Row The Third: Improves on Saints Row 2 in almost every way.
• Tomb Raider Underworld: Improves on Legend in almost every way.
• Uncharted 2 Among Theives: Improves on the original in almost eveyr way.
• Uncharted 3 Drakes Deception: Improves on Among Theives in almost every way.
• Just Cause 2: Improves on the oringal in almost every way.

WORST:

• Resident Evil 5: Destroys everything that made the series great. How Gameinformer can possibly consider this garbage better than Assassin's Creed II, I will never know.
• Splinter CellConviction: Gives us an action game that no Splinter Cell fan wanted.
• Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3: Four words: been there, done that.
• Tony Hawk Ride: UNPLAYABLE!!!!
• Prince of Persia (2008): A platformer where you can't die, really Ubisoft?
• The Elder Scrols V Skyrim: IT DOESN"T WORK!!!!
• Mass Effect 2: Stripped of most RPG elements from the first game, the only things to find in Mass Effect 2 is sh*t combat and planet scanning.

Best: Super Mario Galaxy 2

Worst: Super Smash Bros Brawl

BEST: Assassin's Creed II: Major improvement over the first repetitive and boring game

Mass Effect 2: Far less RPG options than the 1st one, but an overall better narrative and an awesome story

Batman Arkham City: Greatly improved all the features that made Arkham Asylum great

Dark Souls: Much like DS, it differentiated itself from other RPG with it's unique and addicting gameplay. Improved upon DS in almost everyway, from the number of available items to the class system.

Uncharted 2: Didn't love the first one, but U2 was a masterpiece despite it's short lenght and minimal replay value

Fallout New Vegas: Not really a sequel here, but FNV certainly deserves a spot here by keeping and enchancing the elements that made FO3 great and at the sime time adding it's own personal touches, some quality DLC to be found here too :)

Mortal Kombat 9: More of a reboot than a sequel, but after the recent low quality MK releases, this game brought a breath of fresh air not only for the MK franchise but for the fighting genre as a whole

Worst: Saints Row The Third: It was a good game, but very short with a rushed feel to it. If you played the previous titles, you'll notice the difference

Dragon Age 2: Again, a great game, but compared to the masterpiece DAO was it fell short

Splinter Cell Conviction: Didn't really feel like a Splinter Cell game, just a shallow action experience

Infamous 2: A laughable sequel to a good game, had some cool gameplay features but it missed the setting and dark feel that made the first one great

Every COD release after MW: same engine, same old gameplay, abysmal single player modes, only MP mode is interesting which is full of immature kids trying to exploit it

MVC3/UMVC3: An overhyped game that ended up dissapointing everyone, because of Crapcom's greedy tactics

Best: Mario Galaxy 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Dark Souls

Worst: Black Ops MW3

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any sequels that I would list as the "worst". There are some that don't live up to their predecessors, like Infamous 2 and Uncharted 3, but I still think both are good games.

2 of the best sequels of all time released this gen (AC2 and Uncharted 2), some are great (Skyrim) and some stumbled (Fable 3) and some just terrible (Bionic Commando)

Although I don't agree with calling it one of the worst, I will agree on that ME2 was a less-than-stellar sequel.

Oh, and don't forget to mention Mass Effect 2 has one of the worst stories in video game sequels.

The best sequels this gen are Assassin's Creed II, Uncharted 2, and Arkham City.

The worst sequel is Ninja Gaiden 3, and I can't even think of something that comes close to the level of garbage that game produced in a sequel that was mostly stellar games.

Sequels that improve on the games that came before:
Two Worlds 2 It keep what I like about the first game and added to it.

Risen 2 - same thing but on the down side it is a pirate game that does not allow you to control your ship.

RE5 - it had a bit more of a struggle to survive than RE4.

I enjoy FF13 better than FF12 both story and gameplay wise.

Sequels that are worse than the game before
Mass effect 2 reduce the RPG of the game and have a poor story and the worst cast of characters this gen.

GTA 4: bad story, ugly to look at, and the worse city to drive through in any open world game I played.

Best: Splinter Cell:Conviction

Worst: Dragon Age 2

Uncharted 2: made an improvement over the first one

Uncharted 3: was an improvement over the first two (yes I went there)

Batman Arkham City: Need I say anything about how amazing this game was?

Mass Effect 2: It did a lot of stuff better and worse than ME1, but overall it was better than ME1 in my opinion

The Witcher 2: sooooo much better thanThe Witcher and I loved the first one

Skyrim: easily the best WRPG currently

Max Payne 3: well worth the wait in my opinion

Arma 2: didn't really play Arma 1, though Arma 2 is easily one of my fav military shooters out there

Starcraft 2: Probably Blizzards last greatest game they will make in awhile

Infamous 2: wasn't a fan of the first one, enjoyed the sequel a lot more than I did than the first one

Worst-

FF13/FF13-2: I don't know what to say...they are just awfull

Dragon Age 2: I admit it was entertaining, but it lacked what DA origins did

Diablo 3: Blizzard seriously fubard the game up

I think Just Cause 2 is probably about the best sequel I've ever played.

On the opposite end, MGS4 was terrible -- an awful story and very little content, some of which was recycled from older games.

EDIT: I'd also add Fable 3 to the list of worst sequels. I got about a third into it, it fatal glitched me (item supposed to be retrieved to advance the story was never there), so I turned it off and sold it.

I also don't really get the hate for Conviction.

I thought the accelerated pace of the game was a breath of fresh air for the series, and it shows a different (but still equally badass) side of Sam.

The only sequels thaat felt like big improvements over their predecessors this gen were Batman Arkham City, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and New Super Mario Bros.Wii IMHO.

P.S.if Assassin's Creed II is as big an improvement over the first as people say,that's kinda sad. Assassin's Creed II was incredibly clunky and repetitive :?

I liked prince of persia 2008, it was ust a game where you could chill out and climb stuff, a different pace, but I could see why old fans didn't like it.

I liked Mass Effect 2, I thought it improved a lot over the first, but I see where you're coming from, but despite the rpg elements, look at it as a whole, and not just rpg elements. I'm not sure how you could say ME2 has **** combat and not say ME one didn't, since ME2 combat was better.. I would have put it on the best list, but that's just me, I did miss the atmosphere the first game had. perhaps neither best or worst.

Skyrim has always worked for me, even on an older system, I don't know, I didn't think it was great until I got like 10-15 mods and then it was great, fixed pretty much everything I didn't like about it, but plain skyrim eh, a little disappointing at first maybe, but I wouldn't put it in the worst category it doesn't deserve to be that far down.

All the other games I either didn't play at all or played, but didn't play their predecessors, but I would add Dragon Age 2 to the Worst list, and I would add Diablo 3 to the worst list. I would add The Witcher 2 to the best list.
