It seems that CoTM got the most praise in this thread. So am I to understand that HoD is the worst GBA one?

It's abit underrated,imo.
I loved the darker style,and the 8-bit-like music.
@EW.Ok,i give in.
You like it cause you like it,and that's ok. (though still you like it better for the wrong reason)
Can i atleast ask you this.
Why there have to be certain elements in order for a Castlevania game to be....Castlevania?
Why? just because of one game you liked in 1997?
And what would those features be,iyo?
Personally,i i'm not too bothered by changes in the gameplay,and removal of RPG elements is ok.
As long as it has to do with a guy killing Demon,Vampires,and other creatures.
I like the pre-SotN Castlevania games just fine. They were some fantastic 8-bit and 16-bit platformers. I just liked SotN a whole lot more when it came it out.
To answer your question: To me a Castlevania game to must have horror elements, a gothic look to it, monsters to fight, and a rocking soundtrack (this is a MUST for Castlevania games). But if it has the RPG-elements and Metroidvania design to it, then it's all the better for me. I love feeling like my character is truly growing in strength, and I love the exploration aspect of the later Castlevania games.
