I have to say God of War II. The effects, scope of the envrionment, steady frame rate, awesome effects, fluid animation, excellent character design, and supreme layer of polish take the cake.
I think the best looking game is God of War 2. The runner up has to be Metal Gear Solid 3 (the last boss fight in the field of flowers looks like your playing in some kind of a tech demo).
Yeah no one said anything abt RE4 that was the game that made me said WOw for the graphics every time I played it. It looked really good something like running on 6800Gt at that time. Also GOW2 is equal to RE4 not better. The artwork is really great but just think it came out 2 years later they had sorted a lot of thing out and not to mention RE4 ran at 60 fps most of the time.

Wow they gave seamless world with such level of detial and not to mention lightning was out of the world you would not appreciate at closed corridor but when you ride Agro in open field or fight a colossus on montian or in between jungle or in desert with ruins and you had not to even wait for a second of loading that really shows the techonlogy behind the game.

You guys have pretty much said it. Metal Gear Solid 3 with its absolutely fantastic-looking jungle. And also Shadow of the Colossus, which looked awesome, especially since the world was much larger than GTA:SA!
Gran Turismo 4 might be worth mentioning. How about FFXII? I can't say because I've never played it.

MGS3, Tekken 5, and GoW2 are tops imo. I still remember popping in T5 for the first time and saying to my friend, "Holy crap, PS2 games aren't supposed to look this good." lol
This can get really subjective, really quick. If you want a PS2 game that's worth playing, and has the most technical merit, that would be Gran Turismo 4, as it (and Tourist Trophy) are the only PS2 games in the entire library capable of supporting a resolution greater than 480p. These two games are the only two in the entire PS2 catalog capable of a real HD resolution innately. As far as one that manages to look good and play incredibly fast, god of war stands out among the first to mind. One that was incredibly pretty and had greatly detailed characters and bosses was Shadow of the Colossus. It's hard to ignore just how incredibly good looking the Colossi(sp?) were in that movie. I refuse to acknowledge games that only look good in pre-rendered, CG stuff because it's pretty unrealistic to use that as a barometer of a console's graphical prowess. I'm much more impressed when games will use the in-game graphical engine for any cutscenes.
