The PS2 had quite a bit of platformers and I want to know which you think was the best in on the PS2. A quick overview of some:

Jak and Daxter: Jak and Daxter was built off of some of Crash Bandicoots roots, and gave him more moves and throw Jak into an open world enviorent. Mainly, the objective is to collect powercells to gain acess to more areas. With no loading screens, the game worlds was entirely connected and you would use Magic called Eco. Jak 2 and 3 focused on the future (Literaly) and changes Jaks gameplay to be a more GTA style game. Ading weapons and a more in-depth story, oh and jak can talk. While still keeping h open-world gameplay.

Ratchet & Clank: Is a Platforming series involving a lot of action and comedy. It involves a lombax going through different planets usualy to stop some terrifying enemy from destroying the world(s0, turning mortal life forms into robots, etc. It always adds new weapons in the series, and as of the second game, weapons can be upgraded into different weapons. Most games use a few methods of Spyro, including collecting bolts instead of gems, and keeping comedic characters that mathc nicely with the Action.

Ty the Tasamanian Tiger: Ty is a Australian Tiger in the outback. In reality, Ty is a Jak and Daxter rip-off with a few differences. Ty can bite a throw boomer rangs. There are different kinds of boomerrangs for different situations as you fight your way to the evil boss cass. You collect opals simillar to precursor orbs in Jak. Instead of powercalls you collect Thunder ehhs, which are used to power up machines (Sound familiar) But it had quite an interesting cast of chracters and IMO some of them have horrible fake accents, and the slang phrases they make are sometimes a bit to much to take. The Second game takes away the magic and mystic bunyips, and now for some reasosn bunyips are robotic manned machines that can be used to destroy stuff, they added loading doors instead of loading screens like Jak II and added mission/sandbox related gameplay, as well as other things.

Sly Cooper:The Sly cooper series focuses on telling the game like a book and is made to look nd play like a cartoon/comic book with characters with great personality. the game focuses on stealth, and you can also play as slys friends. Bently is the strength, and has powerful fighting moves and in some cases mystic powers. Bently is the brainiac, hacking through conputers, making gadgets and weapons, and upgrading his wheel cahirs (in the 3rd game) with a deadly arsenal. Sly is usually chased by Carmilita Fox in every games as the trio makes off to do crime and often find them selves saving people and towns and stuff. Kind of like Lupin the Third now that I think about it.

Tak: Tak ia a game that focuses on comedy and story telling more the gameplay IMO but throws in a lot of magic and IMO had a unbalanced dificulty level. But Tak has a wide range of magic he can use and is taking through a lot of different areas and worlds.

These are just a few, what is your favorite platformer on the PS2?

Jak 2. Not only is it the funniest game in the series (and the funniest game I've played in my life), it also is a fantastic showcase for the PS2 hardware and tells a great story. It's also very challenging which is why I like it even more :)

I remember my friend went to Carrefour and called me on the phone and asked, "Dude, with the money you gave, should I buy you this game?". I was somewhat in a dry spell of gaming so I told him to buy it. After I put down the phone, I had this feeling of whether the game would suck. I checked online on GS and recall seeing the 9.1 review. When my friend brought the game, I fell in love with it instantly. My brothers also loved the game. We took it in turns to play Jak 2.

Jak 3 was the next game in the series while Jak and Daxter : The Precursor Legacy was the last game in the series I got :)

It's one of my favorite platformers of all time. Jak 3 is the harder game because of the emphasis on vehicular combat. I was never any good in that stuff :P

Also, Jak 2 has that awesome glitch where we can play the Sandover Village level :D

I haven't played anything from the Jak series, but Sly Cooper had more of a platforming focus than R&C.

Overall I like both of the series about equally though.

I've never played Ratchet & Clank or Jak and Daxter..so I'll go with Sly. All three games were great.

I know I will be the only guy on this thread to have this answer, but I don't care, I love these games:

Pac-Man World 2 & 3. They are 3D platforming gold, and flew under most gamer's radar which is a shame. Tons of fun, and quite challenging in the later stages. And these games have a lot more meat than just eating pellets in a maze, trust me. It's a true 3D platformer in every sense of the word.

If we can count old-school collection in this, then Sonic Mega Collection Plus wins hands-down. It collects the GREATEST Sonic the Hedgehog games ever made:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis Version)
  • Sonic the Hedghog 2 (Genesis Version)
  • Sonic the Hedghog 3
  • Sonic & Knuckles
  • Sonic 3D Blast
  • Sonic Spinball
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (Game Gear Version)
  • Sonic Chaos
  • and others

Plus you get unlockable Genesis gems like Comix Zone and Ristar.

Completely irrelevant. You are comparing games in different generations for nor reason other than to troll. I would also like to know what Jak II has to do with Crash Bandicoot.

Um, Crash Bandicoot is on the PS2 as well. Also, didn't you say in another post somewhere that all these platform games are in some way related to each other? this is not trolling this is answering your question. Thank you for proving my point--again.

I know most of you people are not trying to be in this argument, but this is the dumbest post I have seen in my life. Crash Bandicoot is a PS1 game. That games was difficult, it is discussed in the Crash Bandicoot or Mario 64 thread (Same generation) You are clearly trolling your @$$ off. You are still trolling, and failing. I would also like you to point out where you heard me say all platform games are related? Nowhere? Oh, I see, so this is a troll post I am quoting.

Here let me refresh your memory using your postfrom the Crash Bandicoot vs Super Mario 64 topic:

Can you please tell me WHAT GAMES play like Mario 64 to THIS day other than Mario games? Noen! Spyro was made b Crash, Jak was made to play like crash, Ratchet played its own way. Now back on topic, Mario was more open ended. but shorter than Crash, especially when trying to get 100%. Crash is also harder than Mario and you will be going through several unique levels with new challenges and all kinds of **** going on. Mario seems to be a tad lacking in activity, but that's not my problem with it, my problem is that the games has you doing the same things to get a star the majority of the game in SIMILLAR looking levels IMO. Crash games became better per game. The fact you can have a good playing game tha's linear get better 3 time in a row is impressive. Crash 1 did a lot in showing what the PS1 could do, and the result was great games in other genres coming out with even better results. Excluding the GTA that is. But Crash has its own problems. I would say a tie between the two, but crash was more fun and had better boss'' IMO. It also had beautiful levels that matched the theme and music almost ever level. However the bad collisions on the bridges will irritate you a little.

Ring any bells? so they all play like this, that, and the other. Okay, moving on....

It's only dumb because you seem to think that the Crash Bandicoot series doesn't exist on the PS2 (which is why I'm mentioning it here) understand? apparently, we're talking about (and I'll say this real slowly) PS2 Platformers (I'd think Crash Bandicoot qualifies right?)

WHOA! Crash Bandicoot IS on the PS2!

And there he is again! oh, that Crash Bandicoot. Where will he show up next?

Anyway, back on topic: I like the Crash Bandicoot series on the PS2.

Jak 2 , a very fun platformer whose only flaw is that jumped on the GTA bandwagon at the time.

Jak 3 was also very good.

I will put Up Your Arsenal out there for my pick. Of course Ratchet is a scifi action/platforming hybrid but I feel it has enough jumping and grappling elements to be in this discussion. UYA is beyond the best platformer on the PS2 it is the best game.

@Emerald Warrior: I definitely had fun with Pac-Man World 2. I rated it a 6.5 on this site when I first got it, but if I were to play it again that would probably come up. I can't disagree with your point that it is a pure platformer. These threads always make me pine for some old console or another.

Up your Arsenal. It was nice to have a boss actually fight you HIMSELF. (Drek used a robot, Qwark used a protopet.)

That guy was such a tool, can you believe that in the genius publication that is Game Informer not a single R&C character made their top 30 characters of the decade. I mean Qwark didn't even make the "just for laughs" inlay. But hey we've got Bonnie MacFarlane!!!

But I do have admit, Ty the tiger had his moments. It was a magical adeventure and people brought it for that. Then the 2nd game came out... Burr...

While the multiplayer in UYA was pretty fun, it was really just a diversion. I'd much rather them focus on the core mechanics of single player than to divert resources into multiplayer.

Going commando means you're not wearing any underwear. Deadlocked... you got me probably no crotch reference there, notice I say probably. But this gen we have the obvious Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time, clear references to a love gun and a butt.

A more fair comparison would be Jak 2 and R&C: Going Commando. Each changes the series. Then again, every platformer listed changes after the first game.

Ratchet and Clank Up your Arsenal definetly. While I guess the platforming was fairly simple it was just such a charming game and had great visuals, great gameplay and combat.

Don't know about simply, but the characters had personality. (In the same game there is a portable croutch-a-tizer.)

I haven't played a great deal of platformers on PS2 but I really did enjoy ratchet and clank. It's been fun in all of its incarnations, but I miss the platforming elements that are slowly becoming less significant with each release

I thought it was average at best. The Klonoa gameboy advance games are awesome though - the levels are the perfect length - not too long, the puzzles were easy enough so they weren't frustrating but satisfying enough so that it didn't feel pointless. I prefer my platformers to be compact - I don't like it to be too open world or levels that are too long. I'd say Ratchet, Sly, and Maximo are great platformers. Ty is boring. Some say Kya is underrated - I thought so at first but then the game seemed to drag after a few levels. I think Haven is an underrated, tough platformer (it has too many types of gameplay though). Been wanting to try out Tak and Brave.

Out of those, the Jak and Daxter series. I didn't get into Ratchet & Clank, Ty or Tak Tak, and Sly is second to Jak. I went back and got the first because the second and third were good.

Prince of Persia Two Thrones is probably my favorite

The Prince of Persia series is pretty good, too.

I would have to say Jak 2 or 3.

My pick would have to be either Jak 1 or Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Both games managed to craft beautiful whimsical worlds with very strog core gameplay. Both had sequels that compromised a great formula by trying to act too adult and trying to be too edgy.

Chrono-Revenant

It didn't try, it suceeded. Yet I do believe a lot of people were like WTF happened to you JAK after the first game. Speaking of which, Jak II is the highest rated platformer on GS. They underrated too many games.

Ever heard of an opinion? Read about it.

...I don't think the Jak series was compromised with Jak 2. The same goes for Prince of Persia. The stories held them together. The core gameplay didn't really change. Things were added, that's all.

I haven't played a lot of platformers so I don't know how relevant my opinion is, but I will contribute because I don't believe a lot of people have played this game.

My favorite that I've played is Haven: Call of the King. Interesting story and characters, more challenging than I expected it to be and the levels were quite varied. The biggest downfall is that since like nobody played the game they never continued the story. It was intended to be a trilogy so the first game ends on what is supposed to be a cliffhanger but since there is no sequel it's really just a depressing end.
