Best romance story in a game.

I guess people who doesn't want to catch the gay should avoid this thread.

Anyway, to me it was Shadow Hearts: Covenant.

It had usual male and female main characters set up and looked like it was pushing them as a couple, but at end they take unexpected turns and provides one beautiful romantic story.

I don't think I've ever seen such common quote "I love you" and "I love you too" used so powerfully.

Yuna and Tidus story was heart aching too and same goes for Cloud and Aeris, Kain and Rose, etc but I think their story is not as powerful as one shown in Shadow Hearts: Covenant.

Of course Squall and Rinoa! I mean the whole game was made to demonstrate their relationship! The whole Ultemecia and time compression crap was just there! You know they had to have a main baddie...someone you go through battles for!

FFVIII...

I don't know. I remember I was being extremely disappointed with their love story. I expected something better especially when Square said they are taking romance as the theme.

Personally I think Yuna and Tidus, Ovelia and Delita, Zack and Aeris were couples with more powerful story than Squall and Riona in FF series.

FFIV had a pretty good romance story in it between Cecil and Rosa. Chrono Cross was good too with Kid and Surge, even though it was more subdtle.

Not many people played this but the first Atlier Iris had a romance story in it which wasn't bad.

VIII was bizarre. X, although also bizarre, was stronger and had genuine moments.

I pretty much played all FF series and yes it includes 8

8 is least favorite FF of mine.

I like the ambiguous relationship between Gordon and Alyx in Half-Life 2.

Personally liked the tragic romance between Senel and Stella in Tales of Legendia (the only slight downfall is that the name Stella is a little cliche in America)

I know it might sound crazy but I'm going with Sora and Kiari from Kingdom Hearts. I guess the reason why I think it is the best is because their romance has really started yet. Sure they are friends but you can tell it is going to be more than that. It's so innocent that it's cute. princesszelda

I find all love stories in videogames melodramatic (Especially FFX, KH2 yadda yadda anime rpg whatever) and in alot of ways Max Payne 2 is also but I think the execution between Mona and Max is well done.

Interesting! It's possible another reason which might not be as obvious as the reasons this guy stated which is the cut-scene where Squall tries to remember Rinoa's face... Her face gets merged with Ultimecia's!

From what I can gather, Sorceresses have a long life span unlike humans so Rinoa would outlive Squall in that case. Rinoa didn't want things to end between them like that. Also, somewhere in that article, it says that Sorceresses need a Knight in order to stay sane. Squall's death did extreme psychological damage to her to the point that she didn't want another Knight. Since Sorceresses were already hated enough, it was already hard to get a Knight but she made it impossible. Eventually, she would have to use a GF which can affect memory. The only one that could have the least impact on her was Griever since it was the only one Squall and Rinoa shared.

By achieving time compression, Ultimecia could keep Squall alive, explaining her actions and making her one of the best villains in a game.

I'm going to have to read it over again to make sure.

I like it even more after technoweirdo gave me that link to the theory! I think Rinoa did best when you she wanted time compression :D Squall is sooooo worth it! I'd be ten times worse than Rinoa!

You should try Shadow Hearts series, you would love Yuri way more than Squall for sure.
