Been in the search for a long time to no avail so I came here for help.

I really love FPS games where you are given the option to go stealth mode. The Far Cry series and Deus Ex (Human Revolution and Mankind Divided) are exceptional examples where you can go stealth with silenced sniper rifles; what's even better is that the game rewards you when you go undetected.

I'm having a hard time finding another FPS games that are like those ones. Thief and Assasin's Creed are out of the question because they don't have sniper rifles. I already played Dishonored. You could go stealth, but the lack of sniper rifle wasn't as fun (I love long range shooting). Really amazing game though; I love the aesthetics and gameplay.

Not a fan of old games with outdated graphics.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

@Macutchi: Ah I didn't know MGSV was stealth-able, but I just watched a few videos on it and it looks perfect! It's not technically an FPS but third-person is fine by me if I can go stealth with a sniper rifle. Thank you!

i was gonna say the old Hitman games. Back in the Hitman 2 days it was some of the best stealth out there and still better than most games today.

I know Hitman 2 in particular, sniper rifle was my go to on a few levels. Their was the one mission in particular where your two targets meet in a park for an exchange. I set up in a tower way out, waited till they got close and took them both out with the same bullet. Ditched the gun, walked down the street nonchalantly while everyone was going crazy, hopped in muh boat and took off.

That game just felt so good when you found a particularly lethal and efficient way to take down your target and scored a Silent Assassin rating. But later games started pointing you to all the numerous options instead of letting you find them and that really killed the series for me.

I still think you'd love the game if you could put up with the dated visuals, but maybe the newer ones have improved. Can't say.

@jameszhan9592: The Wolfenstein games (reboots) have pretty fun stealth bits. It's nice lurking around, shanking and stabbing Nazis, then go full-on guns blazing! It's very similar to how Far Cry handles stealth; not critical to the game at all, but very fun and well executed.

Hitman also does stealth well, but it's a unique spin; it's more about hiding in plain sight, you know like wearing disguises and stuff like that. I recommend Blood Money, arguably the best installment in the series, though the episodic series is also very good (titled "Hitman", it was released in 2016).

If you like stealth and sniper rifles, Sniper Elite is a great series. The original is my favorite but is very dated at this point, so I recommend Sniper Elite IV (takes place in Italy) or Sniper Elite III (takes place in N. Africa). The games are set during WWII, and are a lot of fun. The kill-cam when you get a great shot is awesome, and the stealth is challenging but very rewarding.

@jameszhan9592:

The newest Hitman is excellent.

Wouldn’t do Sniper Elite, it’s pants.

I usually not bad at stealth games.

Just stay blended in cover and the shadows and all is good!

Assassins creed stealth or far cry stealth which do you prefer? Or just play splinter cell.

Sounds like you want to give the Sniper Ghost Warrior franchise a try. They're not great but they're absurdly cheap, and outside of uncommon set pieces they do allow for full stealth runs with suppressed sniper rifles.

Now for the sad part: there's a game called "SOCOM 4 US Navy SEALS/Special Forces" that is not an FPS but it's really good and gives you a snowball's chance in hell (meaning it's possible, but requires lots of patience) to complete most levels with suppressed weapons without raising the alarm. Unfortunately that game is Playstation 3 only, which is a crying shame.

If you don't mind older games, GOG has just recently re-released Hidden & Dangerous 2, a masterpiece of the good old days that allows for that sort of gameplay. They also have the first Sniper Elite (the best in the series), which is entirely focused around using bombardment and artillery noise to mask your sniper shots. Sniper Elite 2 is inferior, 3 is pointless.

Thanks everyone for your reply! From this post I found out about a few very promising games: MGSV, Hitman, Sniper Elite and Sniper Ghost Warrior.

@Black_Knight_00: Why is Sniper Elite 3 pointless? Also the Sniper Ghost Warrior series seem to get not very good reviews, though the from some of the gameplay videos I could find, it just look like the exact kind of game I want.

For one thing Sniper Elite 3 is in the desert, which is far less interesting than war torn Berlin from the previous two. Also it's way too linear and easy, even on hard. But I mean: it's playable, you can definitely pick it up and have a decent time with it.

As for Sniper Ghost Warrior 1-3 (and their prequel Sniper Art of Victory), the problem with those games (and the reason for the bad reviews) is that they are unpolished and rough around the edges: they are low budget games and they feel like low budget games (especially the first one). There's a lot of jank and more than a few bugs, but the sniper shooting is rock solid and there are mods to fix some of the issues. If you keep your ear to the ground you can usually get bundles with Art of Victory+Ghost Warrior 1+2 for a dollar or little more, so the loss is minimal even if you end up hating them. It's $3 right now on Fanatical.

I have found Stealth in Fallout and Elder Scrolls games to be really enjoyable from FPS perspective. In both franchises you can focus on stealth and get more stealth skills and perks and gear, so in the end you are the uber shadow warrior.

I'd suggest Fallout 4 good starting point, and also Skyrim (vanilla edition)

Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, Every Splinter Cell (exclusive of Conviction). Try the old time classic Thief, old game with outdated graphics but it's really good!
