I really liked Resident Evil's story pacing it kept me hooked and playing to see what happends next. Golden Sun was the first game i can remember really caring for the story.
I agree with the post on Halo storylines....I found the story to be pretty engaging.... Would like to add some games that havent been mentioned for their great storylines... Max Payne 1 & 2 Mafia Bioshockgame-junkie
Pfftt! *spits of Mountain Dew b/c that's apparently what all of us gamer nerds drink* How'd I forget Max Payne? It's story TRULY enhanced its gameplay. Max Payne sent you on an amazing journey full of great characters. My only complain is that you didn't get to kill enough V junkies. lol The lab level would have been PERFECT for that!

Well, in my opinion definitely Xenogears and Xenosaga. Those are the best stories out of any game, movie, book or series I've ever seen. (and I see a lot of movies and series and read a lot of books).
KotOR I and II also had a very good story. II would have had a better story than the first if hadn't been rushed into oblivion... (I've read leaked documents with the planned story).
I have good hopes for mass effect too. I'm hoping the trilogy, once completed, will have one of the best stories ever but I'll wait to see that.

Actually yes, this game had some very great moments. Unfortunately that was about all they were. The main storyline was good, but not great. But some of the flashback stories were very touching and really choked me up. Lost Odyssey has the best JRPG storyline since Final Fantasy VI. The characters are more important than the plot, like FFVI (you can say LO share more qualities with VI than any other FF game). Its a simple, but effective story, A more complex plot actually is more likely to fall apart, taking the highly overrated Final Fantasy VII, for instance. The weakest part of Lost odyssey though is the villain Gongora. He is effective and terrifyingly evil, but his motivations aren't to entirely clear in why he wants to rule (unlike Kefka, for instance). I do think Gongora is a better villain than Sephiroth. The short stories though transcends video gaming...wow. Cooke and Mack also give LO a lot of heart. But FFVI's story is way to tough to top. Is themes on hope, love, loss, despair, and hatred transcends video game medium, but LO comes close, especially with 1000 years of dreams stories. FFVII has to be the worst story in the series from IV-XII, excluding XI.

I really loved the story of "The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker" I loved how you thought you had it figured out up until you confront Ganondorf, then he tells you everything. I don't know I really thought it was awesome.

IV and V pale in comparison to the development in VII.
Even VI didn't develop its characters as much as VII, although VII was a bit sloppy.

I'd say the story I've enjoyed the most is "The legend of dragoon" for the ps1. Also gameplay is nice, can be frustrating if you don't manage to complete additions but an RPG still is a long game, so you have plenty of time to get used to it.
