I've given them a list of 222 games thanks to all of your help!
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Here are some of my favorites:
- ToeJam & Earl (rumored to soon be released on the PSN) (GENESIS)
- Sunset Riders (GENESIS)
- Mickey mouse World Of Illusion (GENESIS)
- Alien Storm (GENESIS)
- Road Rash (GENESIS)
- Rocket Knight Adventures (GENESIS)
- Spot Goes to Hollywood (GENESIS)
- Tiny Toons Adventures - Buster's Hidden Treasure (GENESIS)
- Toy Story (GENESIS)
- F-Zero (SNES)
- Jurassic Park (SNES)
- Super Mario Kart (SNES)
I keep seeing Toe Jam & Earl on people's lists.
Man, I want to play Toe Jam & Earl Again.
I remember when a friend of mine rented it and asked me to play. I remember thinking, and actually vocalizing, how stupid the game looked. Then we played it for the next 6 hours. I don't know why it's fun, but it is.
You all need to play:
Otogi: Myth of Demons- It is one of my favorite videogames of all time. It's on the Xbox, released in 2003 to pretty good praise. It's the series that came before the Souls games, and it is one of the finest videogames I have ever played. It also has an excellent sequel in Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors. Few people mention these games but they are SPECTACULAR!!
The fight between Raikoh and The Crimson King still stands as the single greatest one-on-one showdown I have ever seen in a videogame. Simply amazing. The snow falling gently in the cemetary as the two meet for their confrontation. Each hit causing craters in the floor and destroying headstones. Absolutely brilliant!
Two of my other favorite games, though they're more popular so they may have been mentioned already, are Chrono Trigger and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Both are truly spectacular masterpieces.
I'd also recommend the Jet Set Radio games as they are some of the coolest platformers around. And for the hell of it, let's see some Einhander and Radiant Silvergun. I haven't played either one, but according to the shmup community at large they are arguably the two best games in the genre. And it'll be cool to see a SquareSoft shmup from the PS1 era shown off.
But above all else, I'd like to see Panzer Dragoon Saga. I love the Panzer Dragoon series so much and it makes me so sad that I may never get the chance to play Saga. If you only pick one games off of my list (you should pick them all), please pick Panzer Dragoon Saga. I just want to see this series get more love. In fact, do a whole Panzer Dragoon episode. The original is excellent all the way to the newest entry in 2003 on Xbox with Orta. Panzer Dragoon forever man, Panzer Dragoon forever....
To reiterate:
Otogi: Myth of Demons
Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors
Chrono Trigger
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Jet Grind Radio (original DC version please)
Jet Set Radio Future (original Xbox version please)
Einhander
Radiant Silvergun
Panzer Dragoon
Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Panzer Dragoon Orta
I'm guessing you already thought of the more popular games, so I'll list some games that are more under-the-radar:
Ristar (Gen)
Sonic 3D Blast (Gen, Saturn)
Mr. Nutz (SNES)
High Seas Havoc (Gen)
Thunderforce/Lightening Force (Gen)
Blazing Dragons (Playstation)
Speed Devils (Dreamcast)
I can think of more if needed.
dog64
These games are good! Thanks for the list! :)
Here's some more suggestions:
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (N64)
Star Wars: Episode I Racer (I played on N64, but also on Dreamcast)
Star Wars: Racer Revenge (PS2)
007: The World is Not Enough (N64 version)
Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage (I played the SNES version, but it's also on Genesis)
TimeSplitters 2 (I played the GameCube version, but also on PS2 and XBOX)
Soul Calibur II (is there a possibility that all three console versions, GameCube, PS2, XBOX can be looked at based on the guest stars alone?)
NES:
Gameboy:
Super NES:
Genesis:
Vitual Boy (I double dare you guys :P ):
Game Boy Color:
PlayStation:
Arcade:
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Phantasy Star - The end of the Millenium (GEN)
Phantasy Star III (GEN)
Shinobi 3 (GEN)
The Adventures of Batman and Robin (GEN)...one of the hardest games I ever played
Mortal Kombat (SNES/GEN)
Mortal Kombat II (SNES/GEN)
That's awesome...i remember my days on the MSX with: King's Valley, Athletic Land, Zanac.
Other games on other systems like: Dr. Mario, Golden Axe, Donkey Kong...Those were the days when those games looked AWESOME specially when in King's Valley i took a hammer and jumped to chomp off the walls :D
Glad i've experienced gaming from the MSX till now holding an Xbox 360 Controller =)
I don't know why, but I love seeing Crash Bandicoot gameplay. I'd love to see either the original or Crash Bandicoot 3.
I don't know if you'll like these, but out of the games I've played, these are definitely my favorite classics. :)
Sega Genesis:
Nintendo Entertainment System:
Super NES:
PlayStation:
Arcade/Misc:
:D
I'd love to see the following-
Metroid
Killer Instinct
Earthworm Jim
Aladdin
Dino Crisis
Road Rash
Command and Conquer
Age of Empires II
I'm not sure about whether the following qualify as retro or not so I'm just going to mention them-
Quake 3
Unreal Tournament '99
If you want to play fun underrated games here are my suggestions! Please give at least one a try.;)
(NES) Kung Fu Heroes, Willow, Demon Soword, Shadow of the Ninja, Dr. Chaos and Metal Storm, Duck Tales and Jackal.
(PS1) Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, Wolf Fang, Pop'N Tanks, Rival Schools: United by Fate, Kula World, Suikoden and Speed Power Gunbike.
All of these games are fun, well in my opinion that is.
Sooo many already but two fighting games that I had great fun playing
was
Clayfighters
and
War of the Monsters
:)
By far one of the most popular games has to be Contra (NES). I am 35 years old and I still remember the 30 lives code off the top of my head... from memory:
U U D D L R L R B A START (obviously SELECT then START if you wanted 2 player with 30 lives each).
Of course, also up there is Ikari Warriors (NES)...
A B B A (also from memory)
-----------------
What does that say about these games if these codes are burned into by brain???
But really, like Bozanimal said, the names of games people listed here are just simply not "retro" enough. Disregarding my Sears and Robuck PONG game console that only had Pong on it (no kidding), true "old skool" home gaming began with Atari and Intellivision when most games didn't have an ending, you played for a HIGH SCORE -- never ending excitement! LOL. "Fun" retro games there:
Atari 2600:
Combat
Yars Revenge
Defender
Strategy X --personal favorite
Zaxxon --personal favorite
Space Shuttle: A Journey Into Space (one of the first "simulator" type games, good luck with that one)
Intellivision:
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Cloudy Mountain -- the absolute BEST game back in the days. --personal favorite, this one had an ending
Burger Time -- build hamburgers while being chased by evil scrambled eggs and bacon, what is more awesome than that??
Auto Racing --fun two player "racing"
...another idea is to have a Retro game show and just acquire every single Atari 2600, 5200 and Intellivision game you can find, while poking respectful fun at all of it of course. NES console and games are a no brainer of course.
If anyone is going to play Sonic games, please let it be Tom McShea, Brendan Sinclair and/or Peter Brown - please.
The Thread is already filled with some great Retro Titles but I'll like to mnetion mine, if they give them any priority :D
Shenmue Games
Any Classic Sonci Games
Metal Gear Games (I guess either you or any other website has done that before)
Chrono Trigger
Battletoads (I wanna gamespot crew getting a beat down :lol: )
FFVI or FFVIII
Contra
Shinobi
Castlevania
Double Dragon
I gues that's all of the games I remember from my childhood (at least the ones which can classify as Retro) and I do remember tons of Game Over screens too (I guess the joke's on me)
Great I love retro games as well! :D
