I couldn't decide what the best place was to make this topic. Basically, I want to play my Playstation 2 games now, but because Sony is dumb, I can't play them on my Playstation 3. I have tossed around the idea about getting a backwards compatible model but I decided against it.

On my Playstation 2 right now I have the MadCatz component cables (gift from a friend, but not his fault at all, the "guy at the store" told him). The picture on my television is beyond horrendous, its like the worst picture I have ever seen. In racing games you can't even make out the car.

I was wondering what the best component cables are for Playstation 2, or if there are some settings I should change that I am missing.

I really want to play my PS2 games again, but if they are going to look a hundred times worse than they did on standard definition I can't, hurts my eyes ;_;.

Also, I can't jsut go back to my regular standard definition television, I sold it to help pay for THIS television.

I looked around the system again, didn't see anything that I could really change. Tried setting the screen to 4:3 but that only suceeded in makin git look worse.

I just assumed it was the cables because MadCatz isn't exactly number 1 when it comes to quality you know >_>.

I remember the first time I hooked up my PS2 with component, I had the Blue and Green in the wrong holes and it totally distorted my picture. sometimes it's difficult to determine if they are fastened correctly. I had the mad katz cables back in the day, but didn't have any problems. What kind of TV?

Here I am.

I have already ordered a set of component av cables for PS2.

I can't stand that picture quality output from RF inputs on my SDTV any more. The TV tuners too won't do any good on my lcd screen. So I searched a lot over this and came to know that there is a solution called as VGA box if you wish to connect ps2 to an lcd monitor capable of doing HD. I am still not sure which vga box to go with. Can anyone tell me, will I be able to play all ps2 games in 480p/better picture quality than that obtained using a composite av cable, if I use the component cable on my ps2?

But in your case I don't think you need any vga box or stuff. The component cable must be going easily into the 5 inputs on your HDTV. Still you're having issues. Maybe you need to change it to Component/YPbPr from RGB in your PS2 Configuration Settings menu. If this doesn't solve then maybe bad cable. should go with the official sony ps2 component cable. But I got one off dealextreme was really cheap over there and had good reviews. Hope it will do the job for me once I get a good vga box. But Please tell me whether all games will improve in quality or just the ones claiming to do progressive scan?!

Thanks
