question what do you think the cost of a new game should be as new call of duty is set to be £55 for basic edition and others £40 what do you think the true value of games should be.

Well, 50-60 dollars has been the standard for several years now. I don't really know what the value of a game should be, as I assume that you have to factor in economic aspects.

You have to also factor in the tens of millions of dollars it costs to develop and market a game that a publisher must make up for before they can turn a profit. If you don't like the price of a new game, then buy one used, or wait a few months for a significant price drop.

Reflected by sales on sites like amazon and ebay. I would be saying the true price of new games would be 40-50.

Wrong, the true price is whatever the hell they want to sell it for. It only costs a couple of dollars to produce the hardcopy and package, but then that doesn't include the millions it took to develop and market the game.

Wrong, the true price is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Companies could charge $150 but if no one is willing to pay it, it is not worth that much. basic economics.

Money talks, what are you saying?

I think $50 is ok. Thats the way its always been. I mean I guess it still makes the companies enough profit that they havent needed to change it...although most new 360/PS3 games are $60 which is ok I suppose but I have feeling they don't really need that extra 10 bucks. Plus they charge for all the extra DLC for big name titles like Halo, Gears and GTA.

Lately Ive been waiting for price cuts. Which is really nice cause some games that were $50/60 at release are now $30-$40. Some even $20 and theyre still brand new. Even nicer is some come with all the bonus included like Gears of War 2 GotY edition. I still gotta get me that.

50-60 dollars is the norm but I refuse to buy any game that is higher than 20 bucks. I usually won't even buy a game if its higher than 10.

yeap, price is whatever you are willing to paid, as long as people are buying it at $50, they continue selling at $50, thats how the market works for any business get a pre owned or spilt the cost with a friend or rent it is the best way if you are on a budget.

Games cost more to make now (even with inflation). Yet they cost the same or less than they did on the NES and SNES (with inflation) I fail to see the issue for consumers here

Giving the long string of buggy unfinished titles they have dumped on us at $50 each that were over hypedwith bogus release dates I'm thinking --- $30 is probably generous.

This is why I rarely buy new.

Long live the bargin bin!

Quit your whining, you haven't seen expensive games till you've lived in Australia. They retail here for standard editions usually about $110. And our dollar is worth just as much as the American, importing FTW!
