So I'm most likely going to pick up crysis 2 in a few days (for ps3) mainly because it looks pretty cool and I need something until Deus Ex comes out. I was wondering why there's a lot of negativity towards the game. I can see pc gamers being mad at it since it seems to have streamlined the environment quite a bit. For a console shooter I can't really seem to be able to find anything majorly wrong with it. The sp looks to be at least 10 hours, there seem to be multiple ways to play the game (stealth/all out action/etc), and even though I'm not caught up on graphics they do look to be really good. I was just wondering what other people here think of the game as a whole.

Because it was a multiplattform game. And I loved it BTW, amazing graphics, a fun story, fantastic sound design and improved nanosuit and weapons make it a much more engaging experience than the 1st. Crysis IMO. Also, the DX11 patch is awesome.

mp is whack, it can be fun at times but mostly frustrating, terrible serving hosting system really bogs things down

the single player was pretty enjoyable not as fun as crysis 1, ai was pretty darn bad though

on the plus its a gorgeous looking multiplat

- tossed all storyline from crysis 1 out the window

- multiplayer was a step backwards and dysfunctional (hackers and pirates have no issues playing)

- terrible voice acting

- graphics inferior to Crysis 1 until the recent DX11 patch, even then it's still debatable over what looks better to the eye, and the destruction and physics are removed almost completely

I found the narrative poor and it's story trifling; which is a problem as the game seems to have a strong focus on it and the levels were tactical rather than strategic -- those are my only real beefs. Not sure how it's picked up hate. It's a good game with improved alien combat, stealth mechanics and non sponge like enemies, gunfights feel dynamic with debris and particles flying around everywhere and the DX11 looks great with incredible lighting that seems to bounce off indirectly and even bleed colour,

KillerJuan77

IMO, just because it was a multiplatform game doesn't necessarily make it a bad one.

In any case, I've only played the demo, but Crysis 2 was a lot of fun. I hope to pick it up someday!

It got a lot of hate from PC players since a lot of them despise anything on consoles just for the sake of it. I didn't like it because supersoldier was so damn easy, crysis 1 was hard as, and you had to plan things out, 2 you could just walk through the middle of all the enemies cloaked. I only killed like 10 people on supersoldier. Story was bad, Mp is bad (it's like a giant game of where's wally with guns) And it didn't have the free roam element like C1, it was much more linear. Although to be fair, c1 wasn't even that good, it was just hyped up so much by people who wanted to show off their PCs

The main problem that I kept on hearing about, as far as the first one goes, is the fact that it had some of the best visuals on the PC that only the best PCs can play the game. Hearing that, it's a shame, because I've heard good things about the original Crysis.

well you needed the best back then but it was in 2007 i think, now a regular pc can run it, and if you have problems just run it in drectx 9 mode.

It is a rushed Call Of Duty formula clone game. The biggest offense is broken AI though, I would literally watch them run into walls or stand there and stare at me and do nothing a lot of the time. I literally ran through 50% of that game invisible, skipped a lot of crap. Its generic to a fault, id say give it a rental but certainly wouldn't buy it.

I loved the single player campaign but the multiplayer was plain broken. The lag could be unbearable at times and the hit detection was terrible in multiplayer.

Well first of all the story was just no good. The first one was great and I feel like the storyline was screwed with too much. Second of all the A.I. was absolutely terrible. I'd try to get immersed into the game then the crappy a.i. would turn its face to me and I would just get frustrated on how much fun I was missing out on.

Then the multiplayer, so much potential ruined, incredibly laggy most games, hit detection was pretty off, and the whole die in 1-2 shots basically was just annoying. Especially in a game that involves jumping around, sliding, etc. But the lag....the lag. And not just with people, objects would move around randomly, like after a car was kicked it was about impossible to dodge because of the lag.

While it wasn't without some issues, notably some AI problems and lag in multiplayer, I really enjoyed the game. Excellent graphics and sound, some cool weapons and gameplay mechanics, an ok story, and the multiplayer was pretty fun.

Hardcore PC gamers are just mad because Crytek also released it on consoles. Personally i found it great (at least a 9/10 for me) because of it's lengthy (about 10 hours) and atmospheric single-player and it's truly awesome gameplay (the suit makes you feel really powerful and switching between cloak and armor mode is a breeze). The multi-player is very laggy, but a blast nonetheless. If you like FPS's i would definetley recommend it.

The suit was worse(speed mode is not fast, and strength mode is not strong, armor mode takes energy from just being on),the environments werent even half the size of what they were and less varied, the enemies are beyond boring(the flying aliens were one of the most enjoyable enemies to fight), the guns had no recoil and looked worse, interacting with the environment was much much less than the first, scenes where it takes over your character, they didnt continue the story, they didnt have proper pc support till at least 1 month after it was release, the online was a copy of cod to, to name most of the problems.

I reviewed it 8.0 for ps3. Why isn't it a 10? Because of the horrible framerate, glitches, and the fact that it isn't a sandbox. If it weren't for the graphics (which are the best you'll see in this generation) this game would be an easy 5.0 .

PC gamers aren't mad just cause it's on console, that would be a retarded reason. It's because it's so obviosly gimped for consoles. For one the controls are so much worse, designed for a gamepad. Just try doing something like this in Crysis 2.Then it's the scale and freedom, just look at a vehicle section in Crysis 2, for example the one in "semper fi or die" you get a humvee and drive short distance down a narrow path. The game tells you where to drive and where to stop. In crysis I can just grab a vehicle and do whatever I want because I have much more freedom andspace.

The simple version:

PC Gamers hated it because making it multiplatform took away the one thing it ever had: graphics.

Console gamers hated it because it wasa cross between Call of Duty and Halo, but it wasn't Call of Duty or Halo.

Anyone who can't understand why Crysis 2 gets hate from the PC crowd has obviously never played Crysis 1. Crysis 2 is an obvious downgrade in so many ways:

- You only get two suit modes, so kiss on-the-fly adaptive combat goodbye. You can either cloak when you want to hide or use armor mode when fighting. That's it. In Crysis 1 you had speed for outmaneuvering enemies or escaping, strength for super-accurate shooting (hip firing was as accurate as ADS, and if you went ADS + strength you had virtually no recoil or weapon sway), armor mode when you found yourself in a very ugly situation and needed to buy a few extra seconds (unlike Crysis 2 where armor made you practically invincible, in Crysis 1 the armor mode will only absorb a few gunshots; it's best used for when there's imminent heavy damage coming your way that you can't avoid, such as a grenade landing at your feet). Then there were the suit mode combos, such as speed + strength jumping.

- Crysis 2's arsenal was pitiful compared to Crysis 1. In Crysis 1 you hand claymores, landmines, and C4 for use as traps. You had several different types of grenades. Each weapon had at least two different firing modes, and some had tertiary firing modes that could be customized (assault rifle could fire tranquilizer darts or grenades for example). Each weapon could be further customized with several different types of scopes and ammo, as well as other addons like silencers, flashlights, lasers, underbarrel grenade launchers, etc. In Crysis 2 you get a weapon and if you want to customize it, well, **** you, you'll have to find another weapon laying around with the attachement you want.

- The fights in Crysis 1 were a lot more organic and interesting. You could attack objectives any number of ways. For example, if there's an enemy base you could pick everyone off from miles away with a sniper rifle. You could sneak in cloaked and not kill anyone. You could steal an armored gun mounted jeep, drive it into the base, get in the turret, and start spraying. Or you could take that same jeep, cloak while inside, speed as fast you could, crash through the gate, aim it at a building, jump out, and watch as the jeep crashes into the building and explodes as a makeshift bomb (which, btw, would most likely destroy the building). Then when the enemies come to investigate you could toss a grenade to kill them all, spray to kill them all, or simply sneak off while their attention is held elsewhere. In Crysis 2 all you get is "go down this line to point A and fight off a wave of enemies. Along the way you can run/sneak past enemies or kill them".

- In Crysis 2 most of the interesting action isn't delievered through actual gameplay, but rather just a bunch of a real-time events. It's basically "go here, kill these guys, QUICK PRESS X TO LOOK AT THIS COOL THING HAPPENING, now go here and HEY WHAT'S THAT, PRESS X TO LOOK AT THIS COOL THING HAPPENING".

- And of course there's the graphics. Crysis 2, when it was released, looked terrible compared to Crysis 1. Even with the DX11 patch and high res texture pack the game still doesn't look as good as Crysis 1.

all the trash talking was from PC gamers trashing consoles for ruining the sequel to one of their favorite games and in general ruining gaming overall because developers don't cater to PC's maximum capacity... I thought it was cool though

So since I never played the 1st one and have no expectations from that would I still like it (I'm using a console)? Rather, should I wait for a price drop since it seems only the sp is worth getting it for (which is what I want it for anyway).

How?

Look at Battlefield 3, it's a multiplat game but do you see PC gamers hating on it? No. It's because they've actually designed it with PC in mind so we get huge maps beautiful graphics etc. It's not compromised for consoles

I liked the story, the guns and a bit of the gameplay. What really made me hate the game is that since my vision is whacked I had to play a large majority of the game with Nanovision enabled so I didn't get to really enjoy a whole lot of its graphic's/

It wasn't like Crysis 1, the gameplay was completely different. Warhead had its moments though it did seem to lose all the immersion, balance and a lot of the openness from the original, some of the locked in 'arena' encounters were ok (but the original's were much better). What i liked about Crysis was the ability to judge a situation from afar and then customise all the gear and powers to make a well thought out approach, they changed this to throwing you straight into the action making long range sniping impossible (one of my fav tactics).
