1) Loot system smiliar to Diablo/Borderlands with many different types of weapons and many different ways to kill zombies.

2) awesome crafting system adding on top of all different weapons. Make a weapon what you it to be. A Spiked Bat? Electric Blade? Poisoned daggers? go for it. =o

3) HUGE Open World. Their 3 REALLY large maps with easily 50+ hours of hidden material and SIDE Quests

4) Zombie Killing Combat mechanics UNLIKE ANY EVER SEEEN. Use Blunt weapon to crush bones of ur zombies so they cant use their arms. Or Cut them off. The damage were you throw your weapons or slash at you will notice damge being done eventually to arms hanging hardly by anything or bones sticking out because of being crushed so much.

5) It those have dark atmosphere in the paradise. When you hear a SCREAM out in the distance and all the suddenly you 5 cashers runing full speed at you. >.> Makes you wonder you want to play Baseball or RUN THE HELL AWAY =o

6) Dont USE DIGITAL Combat mode. Go to options change it to the other one were u flick your xbox 360 controller and ur attacks follow. Hard at first/Fun To Master/ Wont want to kill zombies in any other way once tried.

7) Turn Off HP bars/Damage so u dont know how much life they have left. or damage you do for more realsitic kind of a feel.

o.o any other questions? >.< I REPLAY HERE to make SURE U GUYS BUY THIS GAME because it is THAT GOOOOOOOD. The Review doesnt give it ANY JUSTICE WHAT SO EVER 9.0 Game EASILY. If you love Zombie games THIS IS A MUST GET. IF YOU WANT TO have one of BEST FUN YOU EVER HAD KILLING a Zombie? WITH MOST RANDOM weapons EVer? =o THIS GAME is for YOU.

Mod note: Keep the caps-lock messages out of thread titles, would ya? Thanks.

I don't know about must buy, there are plenty of people who either don't care about or don't want things like loot systems and crafting. Though I am very interested in it, I'll check it out some time.

Nice guide. Im getting it as soon as I have enough money... I love how you can craft and build new weapons and add attachments like nails to a baseball bat for extra damage towards zombies. And also how their is actually Main Quests and a storyline behind it, with a choice of characters with different skills unlike Left4Dead does.

They have the whole, you can find white/green/blue/purple weapons through out the game. It really make you look into every cornor. Also Loot/Enemies respawn. if you leave area for long enough. (Loot such as - backpacks/trashcans/health items (like random soda cans) even materials in few places for crafting)

Throwing Experter (Ex football player), Gun Expert (Ex Cop), Knife/swords expert (Ex Asian Cop) and Blunt expert (Gangster/Rapper guy "I was born on the streets") each character has their own play of style. but that doesnt mean you cant be Throwing Expert with guns. Because you can just each character those certain thing alot better than the other.

I rented the game and thought it was terrible. The Zombie genre is starting to wear thin. It should just die already.

It's a fun game, I wasn't expecting it to be as fun as it is. The zombie idea for games is very stale, but Dead Island is surprisingly good fun and does keep you on your toes.

It isn't a perfect game by any means, but it manages to be enjoyable as long as you don't expect perfection or for it to be yet another Halo/COD/done to death FPS military shooter.
It even has - shock horror - a challenge. An actual challenge in an FPS, so far only Borderlands managed that.

And even better, unlike most FPS games, it doesn't hold your hand all the way through. Better than expected.

It may be flawed, but what game isn't?

The game's pretty hit or miss, for me the game feels sub-par at best but I love the concept of it and think I'll push a bit further. Might just end up to be one of my favourite games this year.

Is the loot system really that deep? Games with good loot systems keep me addicted for months and I would definitely buy Dead Island for that alone. Plus I love the idea of a "zombie apocalypse survival" game.

The loot system is bland and as boring as the gameplay. The missions are all repeatative and uninteresting and you kill every zombie in the same way.

Im about four hours in to the game - its certainly by no means perfect, but Im finding the combat very enjoyable, and suprisingly strategic. Looking forward to seeing how the co-op works and if the game continues to entertain when I hit the 20 hour mark. Its a different beast from the obvious comparisions (Left 4 dead, Dead rising) and it wont be for everyone, but classic zombie movie fans will get a kick out of it definitly.

From the reviews it seems like it's a game made of nothing but fetch quests and escort missions.

No thanks.

I'm planning on buying it when it goes to about 40$. I wish games didn't cost so much! One more 60$ is all I need until Christmas and that one game is Uncharted 3.

I was never really following this game, but hearing about how great of a Role-Playing title it is makes me really want to splurge and make it my last big buy before skyrim.

Even with the mountain of flaws and bugs i am having soooooo much fun with this game. The missions are very varied and fighting zombies again and again never actually feels repetitive. And its so satisfying to kill them. I love this game

I will definitely say my initial impression for the first few hours of the game wasn't anything like what I'm experiencing now, this game gets intense, when you first start out zombies are slow walking and spread out and won't really come at you, you'll more likely go after them for getting in the way, and killing them at this time in the game feels repetitive and boring, this isn't helped by missions and the story feeling rather bland. Looting isn't rewarding without many mods available and missions feel really cookie cutter, and the combat feels really slow. However, once you level up a bit the enemy leveling compensates, then the zombies get really aggressive, I'm not just talking about damage and health stat increasing either, they're harder to knock to the ground and more likely to grapple with you, and they come in larger groups, eventually you'll just want to avoid confrontation as much as possible, but that's not really possible so what eventually happens is you really have to plan how you move about. Everything starts to feel really well thought out and suspenseful, you hear zombies growling off in the distance and it really makes you jump once the game makes you realize how vulnerable you can be if a pack of zombies is chasing after you. Not to mention special zombies come in later, and they're nothing to take lightly. The looting system becomes rewarding after a while, finding things like duct tape and deodorant early in the game is stuff you might just think is there to sell for money, but later you'll be wanting it to make bombs with it or use alcohol and rags to make molotov cocktails, as such weapons can be devastating and necessary in a pinch. Prime opportunities to use such weapons are always present, but since these weapons are so rare you may think to yourself you might want to go grab that propane tank you saw down the street and chuck it at the horde of grazing zombies and blast them to smoldering bits, such well thought out actions feel rewarding when executed as planned, especially after you've failed a few times and had to fend off a pack of extremely irritated, agile, and extremely deadly zombies. I think critics were too harsh on this game, I'm playing it on the Xbox 360 and they complained of it being glitchy and technically broken in many respects but besides some rare texture pop-in (I'm not experiencing it often as I'm playing from the HDD), the game is pretty solid for its scale.

Im having a blast playing this game, started yesterday and im already on chapter 3, my friends loved it too.

The zombies are much harder as you play more...they faster and can knock you down, they can also surprise you from behind. (at later levels)

That a very nice summery of the game. Seriously guys you hear from people that w/e you go while game has alot of bugs. The game is super fun and addictive. This is honestly i feel first in serious.... if they notice the success of this game. I believe they would polish everything and make greater and deeper content on greater scale. The battle system... is awesome, the guns should be maybe lowered in amount you find. the melee is were it all at, and the throwing might as well replace the guns if tweeked little bit more. I have no idea why people are basing their expectations on TRAILER that came out as a opener. If this game gets enough Buzz it will become game just like on trailer. But they need to see a worth as organization or large enough following to be able to improve and make the game that much better. Because Analog Controls IS BEST THING I have ever seen as a idea in Zombie Game. Add more details on how slashing works/blunt and how is portrayed on zombies with more detail and different way slashes occur on body such as ripped cloths/heads cut/split in two in many different ways.

and this will become the BEST ZOMBIE GAME Seriues EVER.

I may give it try whenever it has a bargain price or rent it on the console. But the loot system seems inappropriate for this type game. All I really wanted when waiting for this game was a good survival horror type game that takes place on a tropical island. Based on all the posts here and reviews, I am still not so sure the game is that horrorfying or remotely frightening. Another arcade style hack-n-slash zombie kill-fest is the last thing gaming needs.

Funny how people jump to conclusions when Dead Island plays NOTHING like L4D or Borderlands. This coming from someone who played Borderlands and L4D to death, and managed to squeeze about 17 hours into Dead Island.

Yeah, I don't know that I'd call it a "must buy" per se, but I will say this -- Dead Island is the best game I didn't know I wanted in years. Take that as you will.
