Devil May Cry 4...

I've been following DMC4 for a while now and im totally stoked for it( and i mean REALLY stoked), but im wondering if should play the other games in the series first (meaning 1, and 3 ill skip 2 for now since it apparently sucked). I've had some people tell me that it's probably a better idea to play the previous games first, while others have told me that DMC4 is actually specifically tailored for newcomers to the series (hence the new character) and that ill have no trouble diving in. can anyone help me out? what should i do?

DMC1 is one of my favorite action games, ever. DMC2 was a shadow of the original, and DMC3 was punishingly difficult.

The new DMC feels ALOT like DMC1, which is considered a classic, so I'd recommend checking that out, especially since you can probably get it for less than $10.

Basically, 3 made you start out with nothing. Rebellion, ebony and ivory and a tiny amount of health. Basically, the game wasn't really balanced since most of the boss fights are cake walks if you had some more health, more combos, whatever.

To fight the game's unfairness, merely replay the first 3 levels to gather up some orbs and use that you build up your character before you start really jumping into the game.
