I loved it, the controls are more like DMC 1 mixed with elements from DMC3. I did find it a bit to easy, mauled the boss and barely got touched. I am sure the actual game will be harder though :D
I have the special eddition preordered and have booked three days off work to play it. :D x3
im a little confused. i spent only 10 mins with it on lunch so i cannot form an opinion, but the game seemed to be oddly lacking to me. hopefully ill appreciate it later when i can put it through its paces. im confused about the modes though. is this how the whole game is? or is there a normal play mode? remember im a DMC noobOneWingedAngeI
Its just the way Capcom does its demos from time to time. On one hand you get ten minutes of playing through a level, on the other you get to play through a boss level. Its a simple way of showing of what the game can do.
The game looked nice and all, but it still feels exactly like the last DMC game I played, which was part one. Walk through a gothic hallway, beat up a couple marionette zombies, walk some more. Sure its nice to try and get your combos up above the "D" level, but it didn't add much to the original, and it doesn't seem to add much to this one.
Its still on my list of "maybe" games, but I'm not sure.
I just got finished playing through the demo, and I really enjoyed it. From what I hear, the demo is set on the easy setting, which explains why the enemies rarely put up much of a fight, not to mention that there weren't that many until the end. The Berial boss fight kicked my butt my first time through. I thought it was really cool to slam him into buildings and everything.
While I have been having concerns with the 360 controls, I think they feel responsive and work very well. I would have preferred the lock on button as the RT instead of RB, but that's just me. Nero has two main attacking combos. The first is simply by hitting the attack button four times, and his other combo is done by hitting the attack button twice, pause for a second, and continue hitting the attack buttons. Mixing this up with the Devil Bringer creates a lot of variety with the attacks that you can get. I just wish there were more enemies, the highest combo rating I got was S.
It feels just like Devil May Cry 1 and 3. The controls are responsive, it has the same look and feel like the others, and the music sounds like the theme from DMC3. The fact that it plays about the same is probably the worst thing I can say about the game to people who have grown weary of the series, but I had a lot of fun with it. I think I may have to play Devil May Cry again, because I am really psyched about this game.
I really liked it. I definately agree that it was quite easy but if it's true that the demo was set at Easy difficulty then it felt right and as long as subsequent difficulties ramp up appropriately then there shouldn't be any problems.
I played the 360 version and the controls all feel great to me. The game looks quite nice and the boss battle was pretty cool. It's pretty much exactly what I was expecting and I'm definately planning on picking the game up when Feb. 5th rolls around.
Ok after first play through, its looking great, controls are the best they have ever been (360) I loved the game. Looks incredible, play was so smooth. I'm wondering if the problems I had before with the game are now all because of the limitations of the PS2 controller? I'm having none of the camera or control problems I had with past games. Maybe it is because the difficultity is not so punishing that its not fun? cough cough DMC3 anyone? Anyway this is the game you want, purests like Evil Taru will claim its too easy I'm sure. I'm not one going to make that claim, its playable now. I'm going to download the PS3 version for comparison ASAP. I have to say though it looks amazing the Boss Fight you get to play is epic and beautiful._Bear
I would not get too excited yet, it's just a demo so final difficulty could get much steeper. I always find that if I spend a couple hours leveling up early (yes it's tedious but it makes the game much more fun later on) by revisting areas and saving often I can work my way through the rest of the game.
but is that the way the whole game is? or is there a normal gameplay mode?OneWingedAngeI
Its just that way in Capcom demos. The regular game will play like a normal adventure game, you start at stage 1 and just work your way through it. Each stage is a "Mission" and at the end of each mission you'll get a chance to spend those Red Orbs you've collected to power up your sword and guns, plus buy combos. Then you can start the next mission. Pretty simple really.
I've seen and played both demos by now - just finished playing the PS3 demo; it's on the Japanese Store - and I'm definitely getting the PS3 version. Of course, I was going to do that anyway just because I learned how to play DMC with the Sony controller, so it's like going back to an old friend. Heh.
Anyway, I think both demos are pretty similar, but the PS3 version appeared slightly better on my TV. I had the settings maxed at 1080p, which I doubt the demo was displayed in, but it just seemed as if the PS3 version looked a bit sharper. I doubt the resolutions are different for the two demos. The game kicks ass, plain and simple, and it's guaranteed to be one of the best action games of 2008; I can't make it any clearer than that. I would've liked to see a bit more in the way of enemy design diversity - too much "marionette-like" style - but Belial was awesome. As for the difficulty, I liked it just fine, but I'm from the school of thought that says the game doesn't need to be brutally difficult to be good. As is the case with the God of War games, we're supposed to be playing as this super-powerful half-supernatural bad-ass, so why should we always feel as if we're struggling to survive? Besides, if Capcom wants to sell a lot of copies, they won't make the mistake of messing up the "Normal" and "Hard" settings as they did in the original DMC3 that came to NA. They fixed it with the Special Edition, but I was PISSED that I had to beat the game on Hard without even knowing it.
Anyway, it's a must-play. No ifs, ands or buts about it. :)

it's like you read my mind and typed out what I wanted to say. I've played the first DMC and loved it, The second threw me off of the series and while I've heard great things about the third... I skipped it because I had already played the glory that is Ninja Gaiden.
DMC 4 was in the "probably not going to get it" side of my brain but the demo bumped it up to maybe... after a lower price or something

Wrong analysis from CrimsonpugTwo in the first place. Didn't "add" much to the original? Umm...being able to grab enemies isn't exactly a minor addition; it's a major gameplay mechanic that completely changes how we approach battles. Furthermore, while I too wanted more variety from the enemies, the ice monsters weren't marionettes and Berial was insane-looking. There was also a wide variety of areas in the demo; the "gothic" theme didn't show up in the docks area, nor was it really noticeable in the winter scene or the battle with Berial amongst rundown shacks.
Anybody who says DMC4 isn't much different than the original DMC either didn't even bother to play the demo, or has no idea what they're looking at.

congrats you liked it, we weren't impressed... you really don't have to get all upset about it, it'll be all right.
What are your impressions when you get to play this awesome demoShinoto
I think the demo played beautifully. The controls tight and responsive, the action smooth, and the difficulty just right. Felt alot like DMC1 to me, which is a huge plus. Looks like this will be a day 1 purchase. :)

Yeah I played through the 360 version, I'm downloading the PS3 version, I don't have my PS3 colored glasses on, so I'm sure I won't see much difference.

Oh my gosh! Being able to GRAB ENEMIES????? What a revolutionary concept in the action genre!!!! I've NEVER played a game where I could grab a bad guy and pull him! Oh wait... I did that in Bionic Commando, about 20 years ago. No "gothic" in the docks? Gee that two second level really pulled me out of the fact that a minute before I was walking around a giant church, something that never happened in a DMC before. Or was it the muted, brownish hues of the docks that made them gothic. Or it could have been the mute, ruined landscape of ice that seemed a bit "goth" to me. You DO realize that Gothic doesn't EXCLUSIVELY describe death and black makeup right? Gothic can also be used to describe a general Middle Ages vibe and look as well.
Sure the series has evolved since DMC 1. There are new moves and large bosses. Large bosses were also in DMC 1. My point is, when DMC came out, it was revolutionary in the way it basically took the "Castelvania" feel and made it 3D in a way that just worked. It was a great game, and one that I am proud to have in my library. DMC4 looked, felt and played nearly identically to the first game in the series. Oh sure I can now "lock on" to an enemy and pull him closer. But thats in so many other action titles nowadays that frankly it doesn't even feel new.
I'm sorry if you thought that DMC4 played like the second coming of Jesus. To me it just felt like playing a prettier version of Part 1. Yes I know its a demo, yes I realize that there is still a tiny bit of work being done to it. But to be totally honest, there was NOTHING in that demo that made me think: "I HAVE to buy this game day one." If there was that moment for you, fine. Good. Enjoy your game. I just didn't feel it at all.
After playing through both demos, they are basically identical I used DS3 with PS3 works great! Only slight minor difference which could also be HDMI PS3 VS component 360. 360 to me seemed a little brighter colorwise, less washed out but also a tad pixelated. PS3 looked just ever so slightly less detailed colorwise but was less pixelated and very smooth textures some of the fine details looked smoother by a hair on PS3. no control issues with either. Its identical you can't lose with either version. _Bear
I have to add this I thought the controls on the 360 were better after playing again. the PS3 controller for me is just so uncomfortable for fast action games, I find the 360 controller far superior. It showed here as I struggled on the boss fight using the PS3 controller and died much easier, finding it much harder to move away from him. I know others disagree but for me the 360 controller hands down.

I think the PS3 version looks better! I am using an HDMI connection for my PS3 though. Colors just seem a little more vivid than my component-connected 360 version, but you're right; the 360 controller is just far superior for this game, and almost any game, IMO. Does the DS3 work with this game (vibration)?
well i put in some time and while it's decent, i am not that impressed. not anywhere near as fun as god of war. gamefly.OneWingedAngeI
I love the GoW games too, but I like DMC for different reasons. It's very, very Japanese, and reminds me of Castlevania in many ways. To each his own!
Those looking for something drastically new won't find it here but the demo is very, very good and represents what looks to be a pretty amazing game overall. The thing is with DMC, you either want to learn how to play the game and squeeze the absolute deepest experience out of it or you don't. Those of you looking for a masher have God of War, but DMC4, much like the third game, represents the genre as it's absolute apex by offering challenge tempered with skill. The fact that the demo is relatively easy doesn't concern me at all; this game will offer a robust challenge and will no doubt provide various difficulty settings when released.
Like Ninja Gaiden, DMC is for those of us who want to earn our progress by fighting for every step. If the previous games didn't move you, this one probably won't either.
I didn't even realize it until now, but after each attack that Nero does, you can tap the LT/L2 button. If timed right, you can instantly rev up the sword for faster attacks. The attacks are much faster, though they don't seem that much stronger, but that's another layer to add to the depth that this game has.
I found this bit of information on the DMC4 boards, courtesy of Ninja99.
Give it a try if you can.

I didn't think it was that great either, my cons are below:
Cons
-Still seems more linear and less open than NG
-I have to play as Nero for 60% of the game, lame
-Grabbing stuff is cool I guess, but Capcom seems to be grab crazy see Lost Planet and Bionic Commando...Its been done
-I thought the graphics were gonna blow me away, the way people were describing them, but the pretty backgrounds look like they are just for decoration and the character models only look really impressive during cutscenes...And everyone said NG looked awful even though its only like a quarter done:?
-Nero is kinda cool, but he just doesn't seem to have that Dante flair
-Just not feeling like a huge upgrade from DMC3, Dante>Nero
I just found out you can charge your gun, cool. I have been trying to get better and better against the boss to do the whole demo in 10 minutes. Also I did a red orb run where I tried to get as many orbs as possible. My highest for now is 7518, beat that guys.
Is the charge for the sword even worth it, doesn't seem to do much extra damage, maybe some new moves will become available at the different charges.
dvader654
I think the charge helps boost your combo up.
I look forward to playing it tomorrow. I will try both just for the hell of it but i will end up renting which ever version they have in stock..Rarely is there copies for both systems (weird i know). Im really close to buying a DS3 though, i cant wait anymore, but I know it will be a good 20 cheaper if I wait.
The grabbing sounds cool, can you do a lot with it or is it just to cancel the enemies attack?
check out that link Dez posted, no not me, I mean my better half :P Everything is explained, I still would rather play as Dante the entire time, but I'm picky.HiResDes
To be honest, something about this game lacks "oomph"..given the fact that im a DMC3 fan, purchasing is a no brainer.
