I found it frustrating, but it's worth it if you're a huge fan of the series.

The game is frustrating and irrating. It's an average game at best. You're better off just sticking with the Solid series as great as it is to experience some of the key scenes in the game. THe experience is just not worth it and it's more exciting learning about it through the Solid series than trying to play the game.

First of all the Original Metal Gear was not released on NES was released on the MSX. The MSX Metal Gear is great but the NES one that its called Snake's Revenge is a bad game. So there's no original Metal gear for the NES.

Snake's revenge is the sequal for Metal gear on NES. And yeah the MSX version is better.

Yes I have played the original Metal gear on the N.E.S. However even back when the N.E.S was the top console. Metal Gear wasn't considered great by N.E.S standards. A very playable game that took me a little while to "get into" This is a game I wasn't able to finish as there was a piece of the "metal gear" I could never find. So after backtracking and researching. I restarted the game replayed it and I still could not find the piece I need to advance in the game. The original Boxart was great for N.E.S games at the time. Which is why I tried this game. Plus it came with a map in addition to the game manual.

Yeah. It was watered down, horribly translated, re-edited, and just flat-out terrible. Pretty much like all ports on the system.

So should I buy it just for my Game collection or just try it out and seewhat the fuss is all about. I do have Metal Gear Solid for the Gamecube. It was the first one I played. It's the reason why I want to get the one for the NES.

Was Metal Gear on any of the Gameboy Platforms that I didn't know about? or was the game to big for the GB cartridge?

There was a Metal Gear Solid for the GBC. I never played it much, so I can't really say if it's good (my brother had though and he finished the game).

The first two were for the MSX, I think the one on the NES was a bad port of the first and the second was a new game that was horrible. The two on the MSX were good but I never finished either. Both of the MSX games were on the second disk of the Metal Gear 3: Subsistence game.

Never played Snakes Revenge, but my impression of Metal Gear for the NES was you either loved it or hated it. I never could get the point, nor could I get into it. Years later, after I got into MGS, I still couldnt get into it.

My only memory of this game was getting so frustrated at the very beginning that I figured out how to manipulate the save code in order to get extra rations so I could live long enough to get a gun.

I remember choosing Metal Gear over Zelda II and regretting it...mostly because the concept of stealth action was so foreign to me at the time. It's still pretty piss poor though.

The NES Metal Gear is a terrible North American port, Hideo had no part of the NES version, or it's crap sequel. The MSX version of the original is very good and can easily found on the second disc of MGS3 Subsistence.
