In your opinion did assassins creed get progressively better or worse?

Depends on the game, really. In Assassin's Creed, I like the idea of being completing stealthy and attacking your main target before escaping. In the next two games, combat became a main focus and I didn't like it as much. It wasn't also challenging, combat-wise, but I appreciated the stealth in most missions, because it was more rewarding. Not that killing was rewarding (it was), but the challenge wasn't there. At least they bumped up the AI a bit and have them do things, like grabbing you from the back and holding you until one of his friends strike or when they throw sand at you while another attacks. But it looks like they are stepping things up big time with Revelations, one of my highly-anticipated games of this year. Can't wait....oh and the story? I love the story so far, but there was a lack of drama in Brotherhood. I hope they fix that tenfold in Revelations...
From AC1 to AC2 was a step better. The story was better, they made the game a lot less repetitive and added a lot of features that seemed off, but in the end worked really well. From AC2 to Brotherhood was more of a side step. I didn't think it was a bad game, but at the same time, really did feel like I was playing an expansion that lasted too long.
ACII was a quantum leap beyond the first, that part almost everybody will agree with. The improvements in the variety of gameplay and in their storytelling make it a vastly superior sequel. Brotherhood's improvements in gameplay over ACII were offset somewhat by a slight step down in story (though not the telling of it). You could even argue that the gameplay tweaks weren't an improvement at all because, while the combat flowed absolutely flawlessly, the ability to chain kills made the fights easier (too easy some would say). The addition of multiplayer was nice, and implemented well, but it's not for everyone.
I refer AC: Brotherhood out of all of them so far. Granted, ACII had the most improvements, but AC:B feels more focused with it being one large city rather than a few cities that you have to travel between. So I think they've gotten better, though I havn't been follow Revelations much so idk how that one's looking.
I think it's getting progressivley better. AC 1 was mediocre. I liked the idea behind it but it just wasn't all that much fun to play.

I can understand that, given how repetitve the missions were turning out to be. Eavesdrop, steal, or beat up someone for information, then after getting all the intel, find your target and kill him, so it was tedious. But I found it to be addicting in the end. Made me wonder why the hell I missed out on it in the first place...
ac was amazing at the time innovatively speaking but really pales in comparison to ac 2 at least in my opinion.
acb to me was ac2 with a little bit of fresh paint and a new story.. but overall im not really much of a fan of assassins creed the game isnt as stealth centric as i would like and the combat is pants on head retardedly easy to the point to basically being broken (especially after getting the crossbow in ACB jesus and the assassins buddies were straight up overkill in the easy department)
Worse for me. I lost all interest after AC II. Seems like they aren't making leaps and bounds anymore. Just adding tiny things

Well the reason I say it was mediocre was also because it could be frustrating as hell sometimes. There was one viewpoint that took me an hour to reach because it was in acre (near water) and guards either
A. Shot me, causing me to fall into the water.
B A drunk would come out of nowhere and push me into the water.
C Altair would not jump in the intended direction, causing me to fall into the water.
In favor of the game, some of the chase sequences were very exciting and throwing guys off roofs is still fun as hell.

this, ill prob pick back up on the sieries when they finally get to the present day stuff, that was the only real pitch for me in ACII

That was one of the more annoying aspects of the original - death by water! Altair CANNOT SWIM! I was thinking "How in the world did Ubisoft think that was logical?" Altair can climb, run on rooftops, fight, and assassinate, but he can't overcome water??? Thank God Ubisoft saw their mistake in that and fixed it for the second one and in Brotherhood as well. I just thought it was very stupid for them to include a mistake like that. And I know what you been through; you get so far in getting up to a viewpoint like that and those factors come into play. So annoying!

Not to mention that when I jumped off a view point, half the time he would glitch and fall to his death instead of jumping into the hay bale.

Really? I never got that glitch before during my playtime with AC1. That's strange man!

Yeah I would have to be pointing in the direction of the hay bale otherwise (a good chunk of the time) he would jump into nothing and fall to his death.

Yeah, I'm predicting that in Revelations, both Ezio and Altair will meet their ends in that fashion.
Off topic how are you enjoying Darksiders and Lost Oddyssey?
