Here is a simple comparison I did between the xbox 360 and the dreamcast controller.

Other than the fact that the face buttons share the same letters, the two controllers look to be different in every way imaginable. That's even without delving into the fact that the X360 controller has 2 more shoulder buttons, an extra analogue stick, a Home button, and a select button.

(Wrong)
FACT:
The "360" controller is a direct descendant of the Dreamcast controller.
The Sixaxis' kin is the NES controller.
Their "Eve" is the ATARI joystick

The 360 more accurately copied the Gamecube controller, in terms of analog stick layout (arguably the most important factor of a controller). Which is good, because the Gamecube did the analog sticks right.
The 360 controller was pretty much Xbox 1 controller + GC controller. And the Xbox controller was a fairly direct Dual Shock ripoff (at least that's the way it seemed to me).
[QUOTE="AlwaysSoft"]Direct descendant eh? So controllers CAN give birth! Well then of course everything you just stated is, indeed, a fact. What do you mean? The 360 analog layout is exactly the same as the regular xbox.

Hey, lost in translation!
It's called a metaphor.
(pause)
But, still a fact.

Awesome link there! Longtime gamers know every controller is based in some way shape or form on previous controllers. Everyone has copied everyone in some degree. What gets me in this type of discussion is not if a controller is similar but rather other design choices. Look at the Gamecubes controller ports, they look exactly like the Dreamcast's.
This is the true origin of them all, folks.

There's no question the xbox and the xbox 360 controller "borrowed" many elements from the Dreamcast controller.
If you've ever owned a Dreamcast, it's impossible not to see the similarites.
You could say EVERY console copied SNES. Now except for the d-pad, the 360 controller is PERFECT. Perfect button layout, perfect shape, perfect weight, perfect everything. That's all that matters.synce
Comapred to the ps3 controller, its better then any controller out there. Matched to perfection.
I actually thought that the original "DUKE" xbox controller was similar to that of the dreamcast controller cause of its bulky size and shape. But its really no surprise to most people.

I thought the Dreamcast was made by Sega. Because whenever you load a game The word Sega came up
