Okay you youngsters, it's time for uncle DaVillain tell you a story of, before it was called Star Fox: Adventures and it was one of Rare's last game on the Nintendo console before MS bought them out.
Back in the heyday with Nintendo 64, before Star Fox: Adventures, it was originally in development as a 3D open-world platform called "Dinosaur Planet" by Rare (when they were still making games for Nintendo consoles), and at some point, Nintendo convinced Rare to use Star Fox characters, since the game's original characters resembled the Star Fox characters to them and Nintendo wanted more development games in their upcoming Gamecube. (That was Rare's first mistake with the game and listening to Nintendo as some fans say) Dinosaur Planet was gonna be Rare's ambitious endeavor game yet, they scrap Dinosaur Planet's development and use Star Fox and for a time, it was gonna be called Star Fox; Adventure Dinosaur Planet but later, change it to Star Fox Adventure.
Star Fox is and always been a space rail-shooter, Star Fox SNES redefine what the SNES can do with it's special chip that Star Fox SNES bring to the table. Star Fox 64 gave us the first ever rumble pack for the controller which made history and became the best rail-shooters on the N64.....until Star Wars: Rogue Squadron took that title from Star Fox 64 but that's another story for another thread.
The issue with Star Fox: Adventures was, it took out the rail-shooter from the main core of the game, just fly from one area to another was an insult to the series, the game felt like a Legend of Zelda N64 gameplay, Fox McCloud was Link dressing as a Fox, the combat wasn't bad, but that's not what makes a Star Fox game to begin with.
Now did I like the game despite I grew up with the previous Star Fox game? Yeah I did like it, but it sure wasn't the best Star Fox game though. Voice acting was actually pretty good. Characters were fun. Visuals were awesome, some of the best on gamecube. Overall, it was a totally enjoyable and charming game by Rare as it is Rare's final game on the Nintendo platform. I liked the game despite it's flaws, it had amazing graphics but that's basically it when it comes to positives, it had all the bad level design and gimmicks that few other rareware games tend to have. In short, the game didn't do anything to redefine the N64 in any ways, Star Fox Adventure should've been a space rail-shooter but at least the gamecube did get a rail-shooter and that's Star Wars: Rogue Leader 2: Rogue Squadron.
