Could have something to do with the fact that FF6 is an incredible game.

Nah, it's that other word you are looking for. nos something.Ff7 didn't really amaze me when I first played it but I was to young to appreciate it being only 11 or so however when I came back to it a couple of years later I just loved it great story and characters well designed and artistic game world nice side quests here and there the material system was actual pretty good I though and the atb battle system in general was good my only question is this.... When ur in nibilheim and u defeat that fella who's name escapes me he ends up getting run. Over by a van always have wondered why?? Just made no sense!!KeepitoldschoolThe majority of people who where amazed by FF7 were around 19 to 14 year olds (14 usually being the girls range.) with some others mixed in. So i wouldn't say you were too young to understand it.

In my opinion ff7 had the most complex story of all the final fantasy games I have played.

Like FF8 I found it more tedious with some interest spikes and then withing the 2nd half everything gets thrown out the window and dies. Although I found that to be more related to 8 with its completely confusing non-sense plot which then has you in space listening to some crappy song people like so much. But FF7 had their share.
It was the best JRPG the year it came out, and it basically set the standards for role playing games in general for the Ps1.
That being said I think the game is overrated, but a lot of fun. I think FFIX, Chrono Cross, Brave Fencer Musashi, and Vagrant Story are much better games from Squaresoft for the Ps1.
[QUOTE="Jag85"]No the term did exist, even in japan. Which basically separated them already at that point. Nope. The term "JRPG" never existed at any point before the early 2000s. Go look for any magazine, book or newspaper from the 90s, and you won't find the term "JRPG" mentioned anywhere. The correct term back then was "console RPG", and that remained the dominant term up until just a few years ago. There was no such thing as a "JRPG" when Final Fantasy VII released. Back then it was called a "console RPG".
Either way, when I first played FF VII back in 1997, in all honesty, I thought it was the best video game (RPG or not) I had ever played up until that time...

WE didn't call it Jrpgs until (actually it was exactly 2000 when they split them up. But wasn't popular until thew XBOX launch.) they already separated them.[QUOTE="Shockwave-DASH"][QUOTE="Jag85"]

I bought it maybe six months after release and it blew me away. Sole reason I bought a PSOne, and I was not disappointed. At the time, yes I thought it was the best jrpg ever and I still would keep it in my top 5. Just a great story, graphics (for the time), music and lots of content.
[QUOTE="Shockwave-DASH"]Now, I got Final Fantasy 7 when it came out, and I have to say, they actually artificially added to its popularity but not releasing all games in the U.S. and skipping games until more note worthy changes were present. The jump form 1, 2, to 3, then to 7 was a genius and and backfire type move, but the latter didn't happen till later so let's stay in the time period. For one, when Final Fantasy 7 released I didn't find it impressive at all because I played tons of game and Jrpgs before it that did a lot of what it did better. Also after. It just had too many things wrong, bad graphics in many areas where there was no excuse, dragging, and a bunch of other issues but this isn't an essay thread so just state your mind. Did you think Final Fantasy VII was the best Jrpg available when it was released? (Including the same and other/older consoles as well that gen and before.)Garysafc25Final fantasy 7 will always be the best jrpg. after so many years nothing can beat it and nothing ever will. FF7 for life!
FF9 beat FF7, so...

What does "Survival RPGs" have to do with "JRPGs"? Either way, the term "JRPG" was never used anywhere, East or West, up until the early 2000s. In fact, "JRPG" is still an alien term to most Japanese gamers even to this day, with even Japanese game designers being befuddled by the term. Japanese gamers never used the term "JRPG" until after the Western gaming press started using it.[QUOTE="Shockwave-DASH"] No the term did exist, even in japan. Remember that Western RPGs were pretty much non-existent for most Japanese gamers until just a few years ago (despite the popularity of Western RPGs among Japanese PC gamers during the early-mid 80s), so there was never any need to make any such distinction in the first place. To Japanese gamers, Japanese RPGs are called just RPGs, while Western RPGs would be referred to as foreign RPGs or American RPGs.
