Yes, there is no better way to find out more about a game. I don't take reviewer's opinions as facts though.

I will glance at them, but i dont take critic or user reviews very seriously. Critics can be easily bribed, user reviews consist of nothing but 10s, 1s, and lots of cursing.

Too many of the reviewers these days slant the way they review to appeal to some audience or another online, it's disgusting to me, so i ignore them all.

absolutely not. i havent found one trust worthy reviewer, seems all big budget games = high scores. not to mention the whole gaming rating system is so messedp up, anything under a 8/9 these days is a disaster. reviewers hand out 9s and 10s like candy, what a joke.

shame, because with movies i can find a lot indy blogs and whatnot where the reviews are non-bias.

i just watch some quick gameplay videos to decide.

I'll read them, take what they say into consideration, but I don't entirely base purchases on them. All I ever really read reviews for is to determine whether a game sounds good to me or not.

This. That's what it really boils down to it for me, too. I DO read some of the obviously just to get the gist of what the game may be about and if I'd find it interesting; but as far as making it my deciding factor in whether I will ultimately purchase a game--I'd say 'No'. The only exception being, if the reviews are coming from fellow gamers that may point serious issues like glitching or nasty bugs that break game (and enjoyment)--especially if they're platform-specific, then I may take heed to hold of on getting that particular title until the dev/publisher addresses those problems.

It depends on the games, the issues the review brings up, and the general tone of the review. Some games, I'm almost certain to get because I love the series that much, or a game that's not part of a series looks so good that the only way I would not get it is if I heard of some kind of game-breaking issue. Because such issues exist, I do try to look at reviews for games, even ones I'm almost certain to get, in order to get an understanding of the general consensus about the game's issues. If those issues are ones that I can live with, or in some cases, even think they'd benefit the game and what it's going for, then it's pretty easy to dismiss the reviews and get it anyway. Another thing I try to look out for in reviews is bias for or against the games they are reviewing. If a review seems to convey a a bias for or against the series, genre, certain mechanics used (like motion controls in general, as opposed to how they're used in the game itself), or something along those lines, I usually tend to ignore those reviews, unless I happen to share the same bias.

This pretty much somes me up. Reviews are just another tool to help me decide if the product is right for me.

Not anymore.

I can't trust someone elses judgement. I need to make my own decision.

If I listened to game reviewers all the time, like I used to, I wouldn't have bought Tales of Gaces f, White Knight Chronicles 2, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations. Those are some of the best games of the current generation. Critics don't agree though, to them, those games range from bad to decent.

At the beginning of the generation, I would trust critics because I wasn't sure what to expect from these games. I actually bought the games they recommended, games such as Resistance, Warhawk, Assassin's Creed and Uncharted. Those games range from bad to just ok in my books. But overall, buying the games the reviewers told me to was a huge waste of money on my part. I ended up selling all those games. (Except for Warhawk. And I'm actually not sure why I still have it considering I don't play it at all anymore. It got boring.)

I need to play the game myself and develop MY OWN taste in games. Which is why game reviews mean nothing to me now.

Tales of Graces f got a 7/10 Gamespot. I feel like there's some injustice here. But whatever, I love the game. $60 well spent.

People need to learn that game reviews don't accurately reflect the overall quality of the game. I hate it when I get a new game, and one of my friends asks what kind of scores it got. If I tell them it got like a 7/10 or 6/10, they probably won't feel like playing it. I have to convince them that it's still a good game and the reviewers are wrong.

How is getting a seven an injustice? That's considered "good" on GameSpot's scale. Did "good" somehow become synonymous with "abysmal" in the last decade or something?

The spoiled kids nowadays think any review that gives a game anything under a perfect ten is a bad score.

I know a 7 is good.

But to the general gaming community it's bad. And that's part of the reason so many people wouldn't give this game a chance.

Even though it's good, I still feel as though the game is so much more than just good. Just good!? That's it!? It deserves at least a 9.

Depends on the source and I just use reviews to see what features changed, and if the overall population even enjoys playing that particular game. If most of my trusted sources hate it or give it low marks I usually will just save the time and money.

Well that's their fault if they want to misinterpret that score, now isn't it? Can't blame reviewers for just trying to use the full scale for once.

See what I mean?

I'm just gonna take a wild guess and say that you're confused over why I mentioned Sonic Unleashed and White Knight Chronicles as two of the best games the current generation.

Most people don't approve of this opinion of mine. The reason? The critics. They have such a huge influence on everyone in the gaming community. If it's not approved by the mainstream media as a good game, no one can think it's a good game. Anyone who does is a heretic.

Yes, if I'm interested in a game I'll watch the video review then read the text review. Kevin Van Ord has a fine record of noting bugs, glitches, and inconsistencies within his reviews, plus I'm pleased with the editors as a whole.

I read or listen to them to understand the game it's problems, and qualities, but I usually ignore scores. I do this because not all issues that people have with games are issues I will have with it. Same goes for qualities, not all qualities from a reviewer are qualities from my perspective. A review is more to get an idea of what a game is like, not how good or bad it is.

I consider them detailed opinions and judge for myself afterward. If I still can't make up my mind then I go watch some footage and see it then.

Nope, not anymore. In the days of print magazines, reviews were better than nothing. However, somewhere along the lines, reviews just became fluff pieces for the most hyped games. I've been gaming long enough to pretty much know what I like just seeing it. That's why I greatly prefer Giant Bomb's Quick Looks, as it's just them playing the game (with some running commentary, of course). Video reviews are okay for this, but I prefer seeing the natural flow of the game. Plus, I tend to wait until games are much cheaper than their release, so I can more easily write off a few duds (though I can't recall the last time I bought one that I regretted). If I'm still on the fence, I'd rather just come on a gaming forum (like this one) and just ask for opinions. I can just ask specific questions that are important to me for the game and decide with that. So for example, in Sacred 2 for consoles, I didn't really care about the slowdown. But the demo for Modnation Racers Vita had slowdown and it drove me nuts. I asked online whether it was ever patched out, and once I found out it was persistent, I knew to skip the game.

Of course I do.It's a great way to decide if a game is worth my time and money.I will admit I've bought several games with mixed or average reviews and have gotten quite a bit of enjoyment out of them.

Generally yes, and the reason why is I can't afford to buy every one to find out for myself. I also have trouble affording Gamefly. Although GS's review of MGS4 gave me serious reconsideration as to how I should approach reviews. I used to trust GS alone, after that 10, I now try to get the gist from many reviews, watch gameplay on YT, and talk on forums about it before I spend the $$$.

For me it depends on a variety of factors for instance who is reviewing said game do they have experience reviewing the games genre. However I never buy a game on a recommendation I always try to play a demo or a friends (if they bought it) first. Saying that I always know what games I'm going to buy before they are released regardless of review scores.

I like to read/watch reviews to get the general idea of the game and to see what they thought was bad and good in the game. Along side with that i watch plenty of let's play videos on youtube! since most of them are not biased and not paid from the developers I'll get a honest opinion from what other people think about the game(if they have commentary) or I just watch the game play and see if it tickles my fancy. Before I make a final decision on purchasing the game.

I feel the Skyrim vs. Godfather comparison doesn't really stand-up. Many reviews did admit that Skyrim did have issues (especially the PS3 version), but that it did so many other things correctly and so well, it helps make up for its technical short-comings. Also, it's not like the glitches were the only complaints reviewers had with the game. As for whether or not I listen to game reviews, I do use them to see what the good and bad is of a game and whether or not I'd like the good or dislike the bad.

Ofcourse i do,this isn't the early 90s.

I don't want to waste money hoping a game will be good.
