I will glance at them, but i dont take critic or user reviews very seriously. Critics can be easily bribed, user reviews consist of nothing but 10s, 1s, and lots of cursing.
absolutely not. i havent found one trust worthy reviewer, seems all big budget games = high scores. not to mention the whole gaming rating system is so messedp up, anything under a 8/9 these days is a disaster. reviewers hand out 9s and 10s like candy, what a joke.
shame, because with movies i can find a lot indy blogs and whatnot where the reviews are non-bias.
i just watch some quick gameplay videos to decide.
This. That's what it really boils down to it for me, too. I DO read some of the obviously just to get the gist of what the game may be about and if I'd find it interesting; but as far as making it my deciding factor in whether I will ultimately purchase a game--I'd say 'No'. The only exception being, if the reviews are coming from fellow gamers that may point serious issues like glitching or nasty bugs that break game (and enjoyment)--especially if they're platform-specific, then I may take heed to hold of on getting that particular title until the dev/publisher addresses those problems.I'll read them, take what they say into consideration, but I don't entirely base purchases on them. All I ever really read reviews for is to determine whether a game sounds good to me or not.

This pretty much somes me up. Reviews are just another tool to help me decide if the product is right for me.
Not anymore.
I can't trust someone elses judgement. I need to make my own decision.
If I listened to game reviewers all the time, like I used to, I wouldn't have bought Tales of Gaces f, White Knight Chronicles 2, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations. Those are some of the best games of the current generation. Critics don't agree though, to them, those games range from bad to decent.
At the beginning of the generation, I would trust critics because I wasn't sure what to expect from these games. I actually bought the games they recommended, games such as Resistance, Warhawk, Assassin's Creed and Uncharted. Those games range from bad to just ok in my books. But overall, buying the games the reviewers told me to was a huge waste of money on my part. I ended up selling all those games. (Except for Warhawk. And I'm actually not sure why I still have it considering I don't play it at all anymore. It got boring.)
I need to play the game myself and develop MY OWN taste in games. Which is why game reviews mean nothing to me now.
Tales of Graces f got a 7/10 Gamespot. I feel like there's some injustice here. But whatever, I love the game. $60 well spent.
People need to learn that game reviews don't accurately reflect the overall quality of the game. I hate it when I get a new game, and one of my friends asks what kind of scores it got. If I tell them it got like a 7/10 or 6/10, they probably won't feel like playing it. I have to convince them that it's still a good game and the reviewers are wrong.

How is getting a seven an injustice? That's considered "good" on GameSpot's scale. Did "good" somehow become synonymous with "abysmal" in the last decade or something?

I know a 7 is good.
But to the general gaming community it's bad. And that's part of the reason so many people wouldn't give this game a chance.
Even though it's good, I still feel as though the game is so much more than just good. Just good!? That's it!? It deserves at least a 9.

Well that's their fault if they want to misinterpret that score, now isn't it? Can't blame reviewers for just trying to use the full scale for once.

See what I mean?
I'm just gonna take a wild guess and say that you're confused over why I mentioned Sonic Unleashed and White Knight Chronicles as two of the best games the current generation.
Most people don't approve of this opinion of mine. The reason? The critics. They have such a huge influence on everyone in the gaming community. If it's not approved by the mainstream media as a good game, no one can think it's a good game. Anyone who does is a heretic.

It's just...odd, that's all. Different strokes, I guess.
Yes, if I'm interested in a game I'll watch the video review then read the text review. Kevin Van Ord has a fine record of noting bugs, glitches, and inconsistencies within his reviews, plus I'm pleased with the editors as a whole.
I read or listen to them to understand the game it's problems, and qualities, but I usually ignore scores. I do this because not all issues that people have with games are issues I will have with it. Same goes for qualities, not all qualities from a reviewer are qualities from my perspective. A review is more to get an idea of what a game is like, not how good or bad it is.
Of course I do.It's a great way to decide if a game is worth my time and money.I will admit I've bought several games with mixed or average reviews and have gotten quite a bit of enjoyment out of them.
Generally yes, and the reason why is I can't afford to buy every one to find out for myself. I also have trouble affording Gamefly. Although GS's review of MGS4 gave me serious reconsideration as to how I should approach reviews. I used to trust GS alone, after that 10, I now try to get the gist from many reviews, watch gameplay on YT, and talk on forums about it before I spend the $$$.
