I usually do. I find when I wait too long I find it harder to find some games (ie Crimson Gem Saga for PSP)
When do you buy games? Does online multiplayer have any influence on when you purchese the game?

If I am able to, yes. Sometimes I can't, though, because sometimes I'm low on the cash, and also I don't have my own car, so getting to a game store can be a problem at times...
It depends on few factors.
Most important factor is how much I want the game.
2nd important factor is how important is it to get the game early (online multi-player reasons)
3rd factor is how many of copies are being printed (no point of buying a game that price will drop soon, i.e Mirror's Edge.)
usually buy games I want really bad day 1.
I preordered my import with demon's souls a month before it came out
picked up re5 day one, prince of persia day one, dead space day one
and I plan on getting uncharted 2, the last guardian, darksiders, bayonetta, castlevania: lords of shadow, dante's inferno, heavy rain, and ff13 all day one.
If I REALLY want the game, then yes. But for the VAST majority of the game I get, I usually wait at least three months before I pick up a game.Gammit10
You should be careful with that, because lately retailers are holding limited copies of a game that gets printed limited number.
By the time you look for a game, you might not find it.
If it is a sequel or expansion of my favorite games I am likely to pre-order or grab it the day it is released on store shelves. These days I mainly wait for word of mouth referrals. After friend recommendations and researching the game screenshots and videos online I'll rent it or play the demo before considering purchasing it. I am a very finicky gamer so if the game doesn't give me any fireworks within the first 15 minutes I have a habit of returning the rental game without another thought. Same goes for demos (delete!) That's probably the reason why I don't review games for my personal profile or rate the bad ones. I cannot give a fair rating without playing majority of the game.
If I'm really excited about the game (and have enough money), I will, but other than that, I may wait for a price drop, or until I have enough money.
It depends on my income at the time. I've gone as far as purchasing a game week 1 and not playing it for months. Now that my hours have been cut in half and the money isn't as free flowing as it once was, I doubt I'd do anything as stupid as that ever again.
There are some games that I really want to own day one but I won't be able to do that unless another job comes through. Luckilly I still have a backlog of games that will ideally last me until those new titles start getting discounts.
I only buy one or two games at launch a year, the rest I wait till they are under $40. I'm cheap.
I look at metacritic to see game ratings, even if a game isn't out (since there are always early reviews) but even then if the game is almost proven to be fun and my kind of game, then its a first day purchase (Like GTA IV, MW2, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 etc.).
I do usually get my games the first week unless its a present, but if its still unproven or I don't want it THAT much, then I look at reviews once its released and pick it up as soon as I can.
Not really
I can only think of three games where I've done that: Half-Life 2, Braid, and Street Fighter IV.
