Do you find the old games (i.e., NES) more fun to play than the new games?

Rarely... especially considering the NES era, most of those games have little storyline, plots, character progression and things like that that make me interested in a game.

back then it was all about the gameplay and pretty much nothing else

Not really. Although they are pretty cool as well as fun I dont prefer them over todays games. One of the best things to come along was saving progress, and in those old games you could never do that.

There are a few instances (mainly on the SNES) but in most cases no. Not to say I don't enjoy oldschool games, but generally I enjoy new ones more. Of course when you add in the nostalgia factor some of those old games can be an absolute blast, but over the long run I'll take a new game over one I played a bunch of times 10 year or 20 years ago.

For me I love the old games alot, and I would say I like playing them just as much as new games.

Most of my favorite jrpgs, fighting games, vertical shooters and so forth happened in the 90s. Side scrolling beat-em-ups are still awesome to me. Few developers even try to make good platforming games anymore.

So yes with some exceptions im pretty old school in my tastes.

I can honestly say that I find retro games to be more fun than most games released now days. I like some modern games (mostly Nintendo and Capcom games), but I just prefer the artwork and the simple straight-forward gamplay sty1e of retro games. For instance, I've had more fun playing Contra III and Gunstar Heroes on Wii VC than I had playing Perfect Dark ZeroandGears of War on 360.

Yeah! definitively some are more "FUN" to play than the new games. Games today are really the same thing with diferent story; of course today we have better graphics and stuff but for example Nintendo have probe with Wii an DS that games that are more fun without having a great visual but gameplay. And look at the lastest games reviews, just very few made it and the rest are just bad like LAIR or MoH Airborne.

Yeah. What he said. I`ll never get sick of the older 16bit games. As of recently I`ve bought the Capcom Collections, Sega Genesis Collection (I hope theres a Volume 2), Metal Slug Collection and I still play my DS/GBA games more then my other consoles.

Usually.

32/64>16>Last Gen>This Gen>8

Is usually how I feel about gaming in terms of fun and quality. So I usually play a mixture of both old and new.

Can't really complain though I have MUCH more games on my backcatalogue of those eras to keep me busy.

They're certainly more challenging than recent games. I'm not saying all games aren't hard these days it's just that a lot of them try to hold your hand too much.

absolutly not. as much as i use to love them, they always seem to disapoint. the gameplay is never as smooth as i remember. the music isntas cool as it use to be. and the graphics are always an eyesore. they're just archaic. the only games that i enjoy more than recent titles are final fantasy 6 and symphony of the night. everything else should stay a fond memory.

I appreciate the variety of games available in the early nineties more than that of today's games. It's a tragedy that the adventure game and space sim are basically gone as well as all the experimental ideas that were so prevalent back then. (games like Magic Carpet, X-Com, and other genre defying games)

It's really weird, but this is how I feel.

I DO feel like older games like NES and SNES games are more fun to play whenever I get new game and play them.

like an old man I am, I usually say "Ah, they made better games back in the days."

However, whenever I dig up old games and actually play them, they aren't as fun as new games these days like when I try to play bubble bobble, it isn't fun as much as I remember them to be.

Of course there are some timeless games that's always fun like Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, etc.

While I definately enjoy playing the games I enjoyed so much in the past I'm still certainly having more fun with gaming these days more then ever. I've been a gamer ever since the Atari 2600 days but most of the games I like to pick up and play again are usually from the SNES and onward as well as a decent selection of arcade titles from late '80's early '90's such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Final Fight and onward.

I tend to find a lot of NES games a bit long in the tooth these days but I have no problem enjoying any of the SNES (and GB) games onwards
