I don't think crysis level graphics tech is necessary for all games, but since we are part of a visual medium a game has to look decent to sell. I think art style, design and little touches go a long way wether that be cell shading like pop and borderlands, or making sure your game has authentic visually striking architecture like Assassins Creed or GTAIV.

Do you pay much attention to graphics?

To a degree, yes. But, I find myself paying more attention to the graphics of say, Bioshock than Crysis.

apparently not since I'm currently playing AVP and have no problem with the graphics that were bashed by all the reviews for being horrible. Of course I like really good graphics, but I won't let it ruin a game for me if they're not really high quality.

There are good games out there that also have good graphics, so when developers fail to deliver in the graphics department, I'm just not happy.

Games must always support 1024 x 768 resolution games to a minimun gaming standards! At least ps2 graphics standards. Gamers are rather fussy.

I pay much attention to graphics. Game must really be super uber enjoyable for me to like it if the graphics suck. But I try game first, it's not like I say "graphics suck so this game surely is a crap"

Not really. I'll notice if they're good, but it's not like it matters and seldom ever get blown away.

At the least though we should all have some minimum standards, and frown upon things like a low framerate, poor animation, pop up, and screan tearing, etc.

I pay attention to how good it looks, but the tiny differences seen across platforms I completely ignore, because they rarely affect how good it looks.

They can be a bonus and make you feel more immersed in the game however I don't really care too much about graphics. If the game is good I'll enjoy it good graphics or not.

I think they help mask flaws or lack of creativity in a game when they're well done, but I still really enjoy a well-done game if the graphics aren't amazing.

I was just wondering do you pay much attention to graphics? Is good graphics obligatory for ar good game?
For me good graphics is good but i don't pay much attention to graphics.

Graphics help in certain games, but they aren't the deciding factor for me on if i want a game or not.

I think they matter when they take away from the gameplay experience, for me a lot of it comes down to the artstyle the game uses. If the graphics match what the game sets out to do then they are doing their job.xxmatt125xx
I agree with this.

gameplay and stoyline are the necessary factors for a gamethat i consider . good graphics just adds to the strenght of the game.

Graphics (artistic style mainly) are an absolute must-have for me, I'm a real snob like that.
But, so is gameplay... I think it's pretty safe to say that I won't play a beautiful game that's no good, or a good game that's ugly (puzzle games are the exception).
There are more than enough games that fit my standards, so it's really no problem.

Yeah, I have a hard time enjoying a game if the graphics are really bad.

I don't need good graphics to enjoy a game, they are a bonus that I can appreciate though.soulitane
Pretty much this. good graphics are a nice added bonus, unless they are essential to a game like a shooter where you pretty much have to have decent graphics, at least in the multiplayer.

Not really, Good graphics are what I notice the first 15 mins of playing a game, after that 15 min ajustment period, nomatter how good or bad the graphics are, I do not see, unless I force myself to.

I can play and enjoy a game from the first half of the 90 with no problem, and if you asked me how I could play it, because the graphics were not the standard, I would likely look at you with a dumb expression on my face, because honestly, I failed to realise it was not up to par.

I think alot of people are like me, with the 15 min ajustment period, the game tells the story with what it got, even if it is sprites or early poly. I quite honestly can not see the old FF games, LoZ (the very first one), or Baldurs gate has bad graphics, just a small ajustment period.

The strange thing, is that those old games, convey and portrait thier worlds JUST as good (if not better) then most modern games does, despite thier advantage of graphics.
