How often do you still play games? And when did your gaming start to take a decline and what led up to that?

I know my self I play once a month and most of them are classics like Gran Turismo 4. Proably the cause of it was the increase in prices of games and there consoles and perhaps the pc market loosing some of its steam. Maybe becuase the fun left when split screen was not as common and services like xbox live have taken its place. Lets talk about it?

I'm unemployed and I'm only taking one class this semester. I have plenty of time for gaming. When I was a child I was way more outgoing and sociable than I am now. I played more as an adult than as a child.

I grew up playing video games and still am. I don't play them as much for various reasons. I got better stuff to do....well not really but stuff I'd rather do, homework, school and music. When I was a little kid I never listened to music. Nowadays you will always see headphones in my ears.....like right now! Anyways I still rpgs like Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy because I love drifting from reality....

Hell no, man. Honestly, the geek/nerd stigma and immaturity really started to get to me when I was in college for Game Art & Design so I shifted gears and went into Graphic Design instead. I don't at all regret the decision and I don't miss games but I don't deny they served a purpose. And don't get me wrong, I still game, even got back into consoles with Playstation 3 but I can't be the shut-in like I was. There are more intriguing and challenging things than top scores, or completed games and puzzles.

All my free time usually. I'm away from home working so I don't have many friends here. And videogames are fun escape for stressful jobs. I just spent all day beating Shellshock, wow that game is baaad! 950 points though!

I actually play more now as an adult than I did as a child. My attention span was much shorter as a kid, so I'd play a game for 10 minutes and then decide to go outside or play with toys. Now I have the patience to play games for longer periods of times. This is mostly on the weekends though. Work gets in the way of weekday excursions.

....no, once I think about it. That never struck me before. It's obviously because I haven't been buying much games. It probably started when I lost my PS2 and Xbox.

Until 2nd grade all I had was a Genesis and I didnt have too many games for it. Then I got a GBC and PS2. I started playing more but I think around 7th grade is when I became a serius "hardcore" gamer. I started using the forums on GS and started reading news, previews, features, and watching vids and in turn I also began to play alot more.

Definitely not. When I was younger, I used to literally play all day. My playing time has declined mostly due to more self-control and other hobbies.

NOPE. Now in my middle age I'm supposed to be running the nation or sumfin' Too bad I don't have one of those jobs that would actually let me run the nation, you know-like owning Microsoft. So even tho I have a ne'er-do-well job, I work many hours there to pay for living, and can't just sit and play a simple game anymore. Like I could if I owned GameSpot, or if I was a govenor...

I'm certainly not as "hardcore" as i used to be, I remember as a kid playing for days none stop, up to my neck in food wrappers lol. I'm more laid back now, playing every now and again. And I certainly don't have to win all the time like i used too

I think I do more gaming now than I did when I was a kid. When I was a kid all I wanted to do was be outside. Id come in for an occassional

Mario Brothers or Sonic the hedgehog but I got so good at beating the games I would challenge myself to do it with one life. I was a pro, I know.

Not as often as when I was a child no, when you get older you get more responsibility and life's not all fun and games anymore. However I do tend to squeeze in a hour of gaming on week days and potentially more in the weekends.

sometimes I feel I play more now..but sometimes a few days go by and i dont turn on my 360..but when i can, I play every night at least one hour or more. My wife gets mad everytime I turn on my 360, but I usually wait for her to start doing something, like reading a magazine or watching the batchelor...I have to get her into gaming, one of those nintendogs games would totally hook her up

When I was young I didn't have anything to worry about, so naturally I played alot of games. Once high school started my game-playing drastically decreased. Now, as a senior, I found myself playing more handheld games than before. They are short, sweet, and fun. Fits easily with my schedule!

Not at all. I used to spend entire days sitting and playing video games. Now, I'm lucky if I get a few hours in every week with my job and wife and all. After work, I'm typically too tired to do anything as thought-provoking as gaming, so my game-time gets relegated to whatever time is remaining on the weekend after doing everything else people do with their weekends.

I just started getting back into gaming the past few weeks with some older retro games and looking at getting a few newer titles. DOS emulators and goofed off with a SNES emulator on the PC, which was a blast. I started gaming a lot back in my junior high to post high school days and dropped off of it in favor of more social activicities and events.

I perfer to play games that I can easily walk away from versus the MMOs and other huge time sucks where the game can almost become too addictive or overpowering. That is why a lot of the older retro games do appeal to me, but it seems there are more titles coming out that will cater to this with all the competition to grab up market shares and the way the economy has been.

I played the PS3 online (free of course) a few times last year, but don't recall logging in for any gaming sessions this year. Mainly use it for blu-ray. I plan on grabbing up a few new racing titles for the PSP and see what's going on this year in the handheld gaming arena as things continue to Buzz there.

wow, you changed course because of the gamer stigma? what, were your classmates taunting you or something? and how would that work if they were on the same course as you?

i took a similar course to you as well. rarely did i feel put down by a stigma...but some people can be really ignorant and really feel that your hobby/job is a barrier to conversation and common interests. other people think it's really damn cool. i'm glad i (think) i met more people who thought what i was doing was cool - and also i was around similar people.

i actually barely played or bought any games at uni - even though my course was gam-related. i actually spent more time inside because of drawing, and feeling as if i had to draw constantly. i learnt that any obsession can have bad effects, not just games.

and i agree with you. there are much more important things to life than games. i actually stopped gaming around the time i hit uni. it was only when i started thinking about my experiences and what they meant, that my 'hobby' started to grow again. i started analysing the history of games and finding out games from the past i never played.

i'm currently working through games that i want to re-play, and games i want to buy. once i've bought most of the games on my list and played through some older games, i want to take a long break from games in general - lest they envelop my life.

LOL. Calling Gran Turismo 4 a classic is making me feel hella old. I grew up in the 80's and 90's. But to answer your question, yes, I do play my old games a lot. Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! never gets old for me Legend of Zelda either.nAlso, I play a lot of SNES, Genesis, and PS1 games still. To me, it doesn't matter how old a game is... a good game is a good game no matter when it was made.

I play games ALOT less. I still dig them and all, but time is at a premium. I grew up in 80s/90s. I grew up on the TI-99/4a, NES, Genesis, etc. I still play games, but now I stay a generation behind to keep it cost effective. I started that back in 2000. The dreamcast was the last console I bought that was part of a current generation.

I stopped gaming as much because I got married, and having a career instead of a job takes up more of your time too. Lastly, I have a 10 month old. nuff said. I LOVE my DC more than anything. Cuz of what's available, I use it to play NES, SNESand Genesis classics. I plan on firing up Gunstar Heroes tonight!

I find myself in this generation of consoles, to be playing more. That, and the fact that when I was a kid, I couldn't afford too many games anyway. I remember Street Fighter 2 Turbo for the SNES being about 60 quid. I only earnt 30 quid a month part time at a supermarket, so that was a task to save for the cash.

Nowadays, I can buy whatever I want. Here and now, I am playing games alot more as I've just been made redundant, so I have all the time in the world, lol. Its a hard life!

I play less than I used to but only because I don't have as much free time due to work and what not.

I'm getting a new job here soon and I plan on playing a lot more because of all the free time I'll get as a result. Vacation and sick days, woo!

As a child my family was kinda poor so I only had a few games on each system I owned so I was very casual. Now that I'm grown and have more money, I own and play many many more games and am better now than I ever was at them before.
