I prefer being able to read and hear text in game because I can miss important things otherwise I find.

movies though I don't use subtitles/.

Same. People respond differently to the topic at hand, tone, and characters involved. Subtitles eliminate this issue for me.

I used to out of fear that I might miss something but I found that Iwas looking more at the words on the screen rather than whatwas going on. So no not anymore.

Always (although some games mysteriously exclude the option). It means if someone is on the phone in the same room as me I won't miss anything important, or if the speech is too quiet compared to ambient noise (Army of Two: TFD, I'm looking at you!) I can still pick up the important bits.

Only if the game was designed to be played in foreign language - like Metro 2033 and Stalker (Russian). In that case I turn on the English subtitles.

I do unless the dialogue and story is the main part of it, otherwise it doesnt draw you into the game as much.

Yes, whenever available, because my brother always keeps chatting beside me and because of this I am sometimes not able to hear vital information.

Alot of games have people with strange accents (Assassins Creed, Metro 2033, Just Cause 2...:P). I find them almost completely nescesary to understand sometimes.

I understand this sort of thing. Sometimes my roomates might come home and start being noisey so that's why I strictly play in my room.

Yes always... I am more of a "visual learner", so when I read the text and hear the voice... I can cooperate a lot better than without...

Not normally, though there is the occasion I do. For example, I turned them on when playing GTA IV because I couldn't understand some characters with their thick accents.

yep i always use them, especially lately i seem to have trouble hearing what they say especially with movies where the background/music is so loud, i didn't know that ACII had subtiles til near the end of the game and i was wondering what all the italian words that were saying meant lol, sometimes though with my SD tv the subtiles in games are very small and hard to make out.

Always when watching movies and playing games. I won't miss out on stuff and sometimes it's impossible to hear. (cellphones, people chattering in the distant etc).

Every time. Usually a lot of speech cannot be heard over sound effects, some are unusually quiet and other bits there can be nothing going on at all, yet the subtitles add last words or groans or something. Plus, with five siblings, I get interrupted a lot and for those games with cutscenes I cannot pause and refuse to skip, they come in handy all the time.

Like what D1zzy said, I don't use them all the time but in games such as the ones mentioned, I turn them on.

I always have subtitles on for games. Normally because my wife is yammering away at me and cut scenes mostly can't be paused, unlike films.

Hhmm I did with Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2...I think maybe I had them on with KOTOR too. It's just that sometimes you can miss out things or things aren't very clearly audible so I switch it on for that.

I usually find them kinda distracting, so unless it's a game where the voices are hard to hear or make out, I turn them off.

Always. My hearing isn't the best and I always misinterpret what characters are saying and think they said something completely different.
