Idk about you guys but as I was playing GTA 5 I noticed that certain brands are present in the game. Does anyone find this annoying or cool? I'm just figuring this out so it really surprised me!

@SoNin360: Well i got over analytical and kept noticing the Rockstar brand (of course its the game company) but I also saw a video of someone that actually put in brands and was wondering what people's opinions were about that. Whether or not seeing a Pepsi vending machine in GTA would make the game feel more realistic and stuff. Thank you for replying btw!

Oh, in that case I don't like seeing any real product placement in games. Although I'm less bothered if there's something like a real store placed in a game's world, which of the top of my head I can only think of inFamous 2 which has at least one Subway within the game. I mean, it's still product placement and everything but it just seems less intrusive than if it were an actual advertisement within a game on a billboard or something. I think some racing games are guilty of that. Gran Turismo, maybe? I've only played 5, so I dunno. I don't play sports games but I feel those are loaded with product placement.

I guess the main point I want to make is that I don't want real world advertisements in a game I spent however much money on.

I only remember there being fake brands of stuff. What are these brands you're seeing and where are you seeing them?

In a game like GTA it does not bother me, because it makes sense to see billboard ads in an urban context. In games like MGSV or Quantum Break, which handle product placement with the finesse of a drunk elephant, it flat out infuriates me.

I feel if it fits the world, there is nothing wrong. Say it's a billboard on the highway promoting Pepsi. This is something you would see in the real world so by extension, it helps fund the game and add a little more immersion to the game.

@wadedmcginnis: I completely agree! But only if its kept at a minimum and not so so obvious that the ads are brighter than everything else in the game

The 'funny' product placements are not funny any more.

These jokes were fun in the earlier GTA games, but they just feel rather stale these days. Joke's gone off.
