gamecube, it has sonicFree_Marxet
you obviously dont know what a Dreamcast is...... SEGA made the dreamcast. SEGA created Sonic..... If you want a SONIC game, you're better off with Dreamcast. but really. The GC is probably technically better than the Dreamcast, but not by much. I'd say look at the 2 libraries and decide which has a better selection for you.
personally i recommend the Dreamcast, I loved playing games like NBA showtime or Gauntlet on that thing. Great 4 player games. Not to mention the original soul calibur. The DC controller is WAY better than the Gamecube anyways. if you like the original Xbox, you'll like the dreamcast. its too bad sega couldnt make a dreamcast2..... i hate seeing sonic on nintendo consoles......its just odd.

SEGA also went belly-up in the console market and started selling their games to other consoles to keep from going under. If the TS wants to play other Dreamcast games, he's more than welcome to get one. But if it's only Sonic he's worried about, the Gamecube has all of those games available, plus a slew of other titles that he may find enjoyable.
Gamecube
+ Nintendo properties like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, F-Zero
+ Loads of PS2 ports (only a plus if you don't own a PS2)
+ Great controller for 3D with two analogue sticks
+ Better graphics
+ Some Dreamcast ports and Sega games available
- Loads of N64 rehashes, very few unique games, loads of sequels
- D-Pad is horrendous so fighting games suffer
- Sonic Adventure 2 is buggy as hell (though it does have a few more multiplayer levels added)
- Terrible for 3rd party exclusives
- Wii has full backwards compatibility, and better versions available of many ofGamecube's best games
- bad for accessories (no light guns, bad mouse and keyboard support)
- Games tend to be expensive
Dreamcast
+ Sega properties like Sonic, Virtua Fighter, Shenmue, Sega Rally, Daytona, Jet Grind Radio
+ Tons of accessories such as lightguns, mouse and keyboard, fishing rods, marracas, good arcade fighting stick
+ Pretty good D-Pad for fighting games
+ weird and unique original games
+ Best versions of multiplatform previous generation games
+ No copyright protection so a massive collection of games can be burned for very little money
+ Good to bad game ratio is extremely high so the likelyhood of picking up a bad game is lower.
+ The Dreamcast is using the same hardware as the Naomi arcade machine, so many of its games are literally arcade perfect.
- One analogue stick is bad for camera manipulation
- Fewer games (though as mentioned earlier it doesn't have much dross filling out the ranks like a lot of other consoles)
- Some of its better games were ported (though they were ported to separate systems, so to get them all you'd have to buy PS2, Gamecube and XBox)
- Noisy
Both machines are awesome for 4-player party games, but I'd give the Dreamcast the edge in this area
Both machines only have a handfull of good RPG's, but the Gamecube has the edgewith a few more available
Dreamcast is better for Fighting games, scrolling shooters, unique games.
Gamecube is better for 1st party exclusives (as said before a bunch of the 1st party Dreamcast games were ported)
Odds are you will eventually get or already have a Wii like everyone else and that PLAYS gamecube games. Just get a Dreamcast. Gamecube was only good for first party while Dreamcast had PS1 & N64 ports with updated graphics. Its also rare and an interesting console.

Sonic the hedgehog died with the megadrive... the abomination that's on the DC/GC/XBOX/PS2/PS3 and what ever is a freak. and should be put to rest until he stars in proper games again.
and Get a DC, because, you need an education in great games if you haven't already played them. Shenmue, powerstone, loads of quality 2-d fighting games liek SF3:3rd strike, MVC2, REZ, Crazy Taxi, JSR, Head Hunter and loads more...
actually, I say that, but, they're both respectably cheap now.... get the both of them! lol... you can't miss out on games like RESI 4, Metroid Prime, Killer7, and more becasue you limit yourself to just one...:(
Get them both man... just do it! :D haha!
To me, Sonic the Hedgehog died when Sonic Heroes came out, he was revived then killed again violently by Sonic 06. Honestly, I had more fun with the Dreamcast than I did with the gamecube. The arcade ports for Dreamcast were amazing and the games were alot more fun.
hahaha this ones funny ,
gc/wii obviously are better! not only do you have nintendos games on wii or gc-wii can play gcs so get the later lol if you get just a gc
sega released
sonic adventure
sonic adventure 2
crazy taxi
sonic genesis games-mega collection
pso games
plus
zelda ww
zelda tp
metroid series
pikmin
mariokart
fzero
timesplitters etc
if you choose dreamcast over a wii gc xbox or ps2 , , then thats just showing how much of a fan you are because not only does gamecube offer dc ports
the wii can play them and offers house of the dead and a nights into dreams game xbox has house of the dead jet set radio future sega gt mega collection sonic , ,wii also has these on vc ,and crazy taxi 3 xbox
ps2 has from sega
crazy taxi
18 wheeler /also on g c
sonic mega collection
lol so like i said , ps2 gc or xbox or wii are better ,
honestly get a wii , ,
you get most of segas games plus all of nintendos games not just from gc dc ports or nintendo games but
virtual console has sms and genesis games as well as n64 nes snes etc
I like the Dreamcast better because games like Jet Set Radio, Marvel vs Capcom, Ready 2 Rumble, Space Channel 5, Samba De Amigo, Re-Volt, Rez, Soulcalibur [the orginal Soulcalibur on Dreamcast has always been the best in the Soul series], Dead or Alive 2, Tokyo Bus Guide [it wasn't the most interesting of games but it was a fun Japanese game]. Sonic Adventure [I thought it was the last good Sonic game before Sonic Team started killing the series].
The GameCube had some great games most of them Nintendo's own games but Resident Evil 4 is the best 3rd party title on that console.
hmm, tough one but Id have to say gamecube edges out dreamcast b y a tiny bit, only because it was out way longer so had more games.

sorry, But it doesn't, and neither does DC... you'd need a Saturn for that legendary game. the piece of crap that appeared on the Wii is not a NiGHTS game. not a good one anyway. and not the game I waited a decade for.
Seriously, get a DC and a bunch of first party games... you won't regret it. If you have a wii... just pick up the old GC games and play them on that.
Anddon't listen to peeps saying it's not worth it. or there are better games on other systems. play a DC and Shenmue, or JSR(which is better than the sequal on Xbox)or Skies ofArcadia(whih is on GC but, the DC has a cool little VMU game that gives you bonuses and gold in the main game), or Grandia 2(which is available on PS2, but it's got "EXTREME" after the name... lol), or house of the Dread 2, or MSR, or Headhunter(also available on PS2 and Xbox, but it LOOKS better on DC), SF3:3rdStrike(also available on other platforms butthe DC version, like MvC2, is considered the tightest and the true fighting gamers choice, it's still used in tournaments today!) and many more.... you really should experience it for yourself.
Dreamcast advantages: 1.2 GDRom@12x transfer rate (800mb/s), 66mhz sound, 8 megs vram, AA, sh-4 arcade cpu, online, HD/component/vga compatible, wider pipeline via direct cd-to-data transfer rate, accesories (rumblepack, vmus) , 32 bit color, 64-bit sound...and its sega's last system!
disadvantages: 2x bumpmapping, 200mhzcpu/100mhz gpu, 1.4gflops, ATI PowerVr, third parties, wince o/s
Gamecube advantages: 8x bump mapping AA, pps, gpu@162mhz cpu 480mhz, 8gflops, ram advantages, ATI graphics, hardware (cordless controllers), 64 bit sound as well..and well its nintendo
disadvantages: PowerPC, 1.5 optical disc@81mb/s, 48khz, component only, no vram, 24 mb only system ram (lack of real ram, slow dram), online, lots of bandwith used for memory, 24-bit color, loadtime and space, ports
IMO:P Dreamcast, graphically gamecube wins though. Reaspn: Starwars Rogue squadron on dreamcast is highly unlikely.
hmm, tough one but Id have to say gamecube edges out dreamcast b y a tiny bit, only because it was out way longer so had more games.

more games doesn't equal better library. dreamcast had about 250 games of which I played/owned about 100 and honestly I couldn't name 5 games that are below a 6. dreamcast quality/quantity ratio was imo the best console ever made.
Honestly I have no idea what to get. I really like Zelda and Mario, but the Dreamcast has the most unique and awesome games like Sonic Adventure, JGR and House of the Dead 2. Which one? And what games?
smasher501
Two systems worth comparing, really. Smaller, but stellar, libraries. I loved both systems, but in hindsight and upon replaying some games, I got to say that the Gamecube is probably the better deal unless there is something you want on the DC in particular. Games like Mario Sunshine, Fzero GX, Pikmin, Waverace, and the viewtiful Joe games haven't aged a bit.
I do want to point out that the DC visuals often times eclipse the gamecubes. If you are playing on a high def tv, the gamecube only does component--which is always slightly muddy(but still looks alright.) The DC has vga output and looks fantastic.
Dreamcast games I enjoyed:
Bangai-O
Border Down
Frame Gride
Giga Wing
Giga Wing 2
Gunbird 2
Jet Grind Radio
Ikaruga
Mars Matrix
Marvel vs. Capcom
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Psychic Force 2012
Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate
Rez
Street Fighter III: Third Strike
Triggerheart Exelica
Twinkle Star Sprites
Under Defeat
Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram
(most of which were arcade games, which Dreamcast always had the best version of, due to NAOMI hardware.)
Gamecube games I enjoyed:
Ikaruga (many glitches, not arcade-perfect like the Dreamcast version)
Killer7
...Wario World was alright...
...That's about it, for me. Dreamcast wins by a landslide in terms of qualit, quantity, and most importantly diversity, IMO.
DC :) Because its a Sega. It may not have the collection of games that nintendo boasts but if your a true Sonic Fan Play it on Where Sonic Was ment to be. Play a Sega :)
Fellow proud Dreamcast owner here. Man, I didn't even like the Sonic games that were made after Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and I still found plenty of reasons to buy a Dreamcast. That said, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were by no means bad. They just weren't my thing. Sonic Heroes and onward, though... heh. Well, that was after Yuji Naka (Lead programmer of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, former head of Sonic Team, and the creator of NiGHTS and Burning Rangers) left the building due to Sega's quality control taking a nose dive. So technically, Sonic Adventure 2 was the last true Sonic game.DC :) Because its a Sega. Dreamcast isn't a bad console, but it doesn't put up much competition to the GC unless you really like fighters
Maybe for you. You also neglected to list all of the Dreamcast's amazing arcade-perfect shmups-- as well as Ikaruga for the Gamecube. (Despite the sloppy porting job, and the fact that the Dreamcast version was superior, it was one of the best games available for Gamecube.)Dreamcast ... it doesn't put up much competition to the GC unless you really like fighters

If you like that sort of game, sure, but you can't really make a logical argument that the DC does much better then the GC.

Great fighters, for sure. But Dreamcast also had INCREDIBLE arcade ports. It had the best ports of multiplatform games of the time. It had easily accessible online gaming before online gaming was associated with consoles (something Gamecube, which came out 3 years later is missing). The Sega Sports games (2K series) were widely considered some of the best sports games at the time. But best of all, Dreamcast has sooooooo many unique games that are rarely seen in modern gaming anymore. Games that aren't exactly well known to the general audience, but Dreamcast fans are quite happy to point out.

But the dreamcast is not the only console with awesome unknown games
Both are great machines and while the Dreamcast is one of my favorite consoles, the Gamecube has much more games available, not to mention some spectacular looking games like you mentioned! I think Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, and RE4 still look better than a lot of titles out today! I purchased the RGB cables for my Cube, and it does make a slight difference, with the games looking sharper on my LCD. He should just get both , especially since they aren't that expensive anymore. Heck, I think the Dreamcast is more expensive. I believe Amazon is selling new Dreamcast for 99 now.gamecube. some of its graphics beat some today in 480p. it has a bigger library. if you get a dreamcast, make sure it has a vmu

And you can't really make a logical argument that the GC does much better than the DC, so checkmate. They're both pretty cheap, I'd say get both... But my first choice would be the Gamecube, a lot more games and you can still get a lot of them at places like Gamestop (I think).
This is almost exactly what I was about to say. For both consoles, you're probably only going to pay something like £40 anyway. I have them both and love them both. If you do end up with a DC, make sure one of the games you get is Shenmue. They're both pretty cheap, I'd say get both... Thing is, there are no online games anymore, unless you want to pay for the insanely high priced online ethernet adapter, and nobody wants to play 10 year old sports games. Maybe the dreamcast was better for the two years it was being sold, but the Gamecube had a longer lifespan, and just has much more quality titles.
Do you value quantity over quality? Or did you mean to say "a lot more games which appeal to me"? (The second one is respectable) Well since Dreamcast failed (which still leaves me horrifically confused). I'd say Game Cube had more quality titles anyway.[QUOTE="lensflare15"]
