Ars Technica is reporting that the Redner Group, the PR agency responsible for Duke Nukem Forever, posted a tweet on its offical twitter page threatening reviewers who were overly harsh in their reviews.

Since the incident, 2K Games announced that the Redner Group was no longer representing their games.

Maybe he was with the game from the beginning. At least its 2K doing this and not Gearbox. I have a lot of respect for Pitchford and his team. He just inherited a dodgy product. As to 2K's threat, it might be one person making these comments but I wouldn't want to think they make a habit of hiring people with his kind of attitude. Part of game journalism is to provide accurate reviews and if your game sucks then you're going to get a low score. On the other hand, it may be an incentive for the company to put more effort into game development.

So basically he is saying that on the next game they release, they aren't going to give advance copies to dozens of reviewers for very large gaming websites and magazines? That is one of the most unprofessional things I have seen in quite a while...

I can somewhat see where they're coming from.

Did they? Well at least someone had some sense.

Well, it's not unusual for companies to withhold advanced copies, but generally they don't announce it in such a way. This person lacked the professional tone that a PR should have.

In the meantime, I read some of Randy's comments about the reviews and that reviewers will be held accountable if given low scores.

I wonder how he is reacting now, since he's not seeing scores that he wanted to see, like from 7 to 9?

I don;t blame the PR Agency one bit. I side with them...

I'm gonna go old school on ya all for a minute BUT....

Back in My DAY! A Video Game Magazine wouldn;t even release a review of a game unless they completed the entire thing! These days reviews consist of someone throwing the game in and "Checking it out".

Look at the review on Green Lantern here at Game Spot, Who reviewed it? How long did he play it? Did he play the entire game on teh couch Co-Op or on XBOX Live like it was ment to be? No, No, No.

Look at all the Kids games that are hammered on the review sites...Of course the 30 year old jaded gamer is going to hammer everyone of them. Did he play it with his Family? Did his kids check it out? Does he even have kids? Is he even the indended demographic? Did his 8 year old nephew really like it even though he hated it?

No one reviews **** Anymore, they throw it in, check it out then "Opionion it" They don;t review it, they just give their opinion. Normally you can tell they seldom play more than an hour in!

Read a movie review from a decent source (NOT A BLOG) and see how a professional reviewer draws comparisons and finds good and bad things brings them to the forefront and entitles the reader of the review to walk away with some informative information!

A real reviewr wouldn;t give a crap if he had to BUY his own game or his own movie ticket! So a real reviewer will not be intimidated by a PR Group with holding a Free copy of a game.

I love the irony that a member of 2K Games' PR Department has single-handedly shredded their reputation. Made me lol.

Not to imply I understand what you're saying, but most review sites like Gamespot probably do buy their own copies if they don't get any.

From what I understand, that comment was made by the founder himself, and 2K fired the whole team in charge of the game's PR ( The Redner Group ).

Very unprofessional. This guy threw a fit and I'm sure it was accounted for. Although I strongly believe the ratings for DNF have been just as unprofessional, even though we all know they're all opinions. Still, this game is far from a 3.5. More like a 7.0 and up. Funny, this game will still sell though and I'm glad.
