How dare EB over charge us the loyal consumer for PS2/Gamecube games. I went in yesterday to see if I could get a great
deal. The selection was a joke. I did find a couple like Tekken 5, NBA Street V3 and devil may Cry 2. I was excited for a second
then I saw the price. All three games were priced at $14.99 each. I swore to mysself right then and there i would never go back.

For a store that is trying to get rid of there old generation titles to charge that much is crazy. Going to a place like cash converters
where each PS2 and gamecube title is 8$, then a going to place like gamecycle where the prices vary that is fair.

What do you guys think of what EB is doing with their old titles?

You're not just paying for the game. You're also paying for storage space.

Buy the games online, like on Amazon if you're really unhappy with it.

Devil may cry 2 is like dirt cheap at my EB.. I'm talking like 3 dollars. Same with Tekken.

Compared to other venues, like amazon, ebay, and even some local gamestores in my area, EB/gamestop priceson most PS2/xbox/Gamecube games are higher.

On the other hand, when I buy used games, the actual condition of the game is priority for me. You don't know what the actual condition of the game is buying from ebay/amazon. At gamestop/EB games and other gamestores, you can see if the game is scratched. I don't mind buying a little more to ensure I am getting a game that is scratch free, or only has a few small surface scratches.

Gamestop (all the EBs converted years ago where I live) still charges like $30 for Mario Kart Double Dash. I don't know why they think someone would buy that.

Old news, TC :)

I get all my games online now. Paying $4 for a new copy of, say, Tekken 5 beats paying $20 for a used one any day.

It's sad that browsing game stores isn't fun anymore what with the crappy prices, though. There's something special about rooting through bargain bins and finding some forgotten gem buried amidst piles of shovelware that you just don't get when you pinpoint what you want and snipe it right off Amazon.

I bet you that if you were going to sell these old games to them, they will only give you a dollar but charge it for $14.99 if someone wanted to buy them.

The store employees probably haven't changed the price tags to reflect their real prices. I know for a fact that Devil May Cry 2 is in the $9.99 and under bin at my Gamestop. And EB Games is owned by Gamestop, it's the same store. Just some EB locations didn't change their name to Gamestop.

When getting older games, your best bet is getting them online. For the longest time I wanted to play Resident Evil REmake and decided to check it out at Gamestop but the had it for fudging $20! I eventually just ended up trading for it dirt cheap on gametz.com

The only problem I have with buying used games online, is the condition of the game itself. I have purchased a few used games from amazon and ebay that were scratched up pretty bad, despite the description saying "mint" or as "good as new". While in most cases I was able to send them back, I got screwed over a few times.

they are setting prices to what they think people will pay. They have enough $$$ to let the games sit. I personally look through and find a game that I like and get it if its a good deal. I got Ace Combat 4 for ps2 for $5 a couple months back, and that's not a ripoff. You just have to pick and choose. If you think the game is too expenisve there, then go to a competitor near by and get it there. I dont see why you're complaining. I just go to EBAY or Amazon.com if i can't find a game at EB (aka gamestop) for a good price. You have to wait for the game to come in the mail, but big deal.

I think the big ripoffs are on slightly used games that are only $5 cheaper than the new version. That's a joke. I wont pay $54.99 for a USED copy of Black Ops, if i can get a new copy for $59. or just wait til its on sale somewhere NEW for $49. but ps2 games, i find good deals at Gamestop all the time. you just have to look hard and ignore the copy of Gran Turismo4 that is still $14.99 for some stupid reason...... places like Gamestop stay in business because they buy a game from somebody for $30 and then turn around and sell it for $55. thats just mean.

I agree with you 100% a lot of the appeal of old school gaming besides playing amazing games, is the hunt for them.

I found that EB Games and GameStop were pretty good up until about the end of 2009 for pricing. I still shop there occasionally, but I am very careful now. Sometimes you can get really good deals on stuff but generally speaking it is not as good as it used to be. I elected not to renew my Edge card. The local stores where I live will sell a new copy of a game for $30 and a used one of the same game for $28. Or a $60 new game is $55 used. It's a joke.

Everyone says Amazon is the place to go, but I disagree only to a certain extent, mainly because these people sell the desired game with NO case whatsoever, and your taking a big risk of mailing just a CD or Cartridge since it could break. Amazon is good for pricing, but like I said above you have to be careful

I don't think those are bad deals. I consider myself lucky if I find a place selling those games for less then that actually. Though DMC2 being priced that high is a surprise, since it isn't very popular and looked down upon as the worst in the series, but Tekken is no surprise.

That is crazy. I paid less for used 360 games. I bought Gears of War 2 new the other day for $19.99 @ Gamestop so I don't know why they are ripping people off on the older console games

[QUOTE="tjoeb123"] Cartridges break?

sure they do through any of the following ways: smash with hammer, cut with chainsaw, soak in water, set on fire, or sending too much electricity through it. There are more, but those are probably the easiest ways. GameStop/EB Games sells used games for probably about the same price you'll find on amazon (at least that's my experience with Gamecube games), sometimes cheaper. Some local pawn shops and similar places might sell them for cheaper because they just want to get rid of them, but GameStop/EB wants to get as much as they can, and their prices actually are fairly competitive from my experience.

The only reason why I say that, is that I had an experience where I ordered an N64 game and it had a crack on the back of it since the guy I ordered from said it was brand new with no defects, but like I warn everyone, is just be careful :)

It's obviously because they're rare now and harder to find, so they make them at a high price cause people don't have too many other options besides buying online.

But here in Windsor we have more options then online, we have two stores solely dedicated to used games.
A cash converters that sells every PS2/Gamecube game for 8 bucks and various pawn shops that I have yet
to check out.

Heck, a few Gamestops near me are clearing out their PS2 stock. Every PS2 game was $5 or less. As for the high price, it's simple. Obviously people are paying those prices for those games or the prices would be lower.

O.o

I too live in Australia and games are overpriced, even pre-owned, retro ones. Can you please tell me the stores name?
