Even though I've read previews saying you don't have to play in first person, the game is sounding more and more like an Oblivion clone, and I didn't like Oblivion. I'm sad to say that I am not excited for Fallout 3.

I may be mistaken but I think Pearlman provided his voice for the previous Fallout games.

I could already tell that Fallout 3 was going to be crap due to: It being developed by The Bethesda, Clearly Going Towards the more Mainstream gamer, it being 3rd Person 3D and Going Towards Immersion instead of Isomentric Interactivity.

It has Liam Neeson, that's awesome. Ron ain't too bad I've played a ton of games with him in them and never noticed it.

Oh, absolutely. After he did such a great job with the intros for the first two games I can't believe they have the audacity to bring him back for this one.

Fallout 3 may very well suck, but it won't have anything to do with Perlman. It'll be Bethesda turning the game into the eunuch of the Fallout series.

OMGZ!! THE SKY IS FALLING!

How about waiting until the game is out before you start crying "oblivion clone" and "Bethesda suxor", alright?

And BTW Ron Pearlman has done voice work in every Fallout game.

Well, all I have to say is that Bethesda is without a doubt my favorite game developer and I am really excited for this game. While it may be similar to Oblivion in some aspects, based on the previews I have seen it is still a Fallout game.

Devout Fallout fans will jump on any chance they get to hate on the game, but from what I've seen and heard Fallout 3 is going to be quite different from Oblivion. The game just sounds fantastic, and looks to provide for a much more open experience than Oblivion, and only expands on freedom given by previous Fallout games. Also, I didn't know Oblivion featured turn-based combat. I'm sure the critics and also the console wrpg players (like myself) are going to absolutely love this game. I'm tired so many fallout purists declaring that the game is ruined before they get their hands on it, and before they even get hands-on impressions. Do me a favor wait for more details before you reach such a verdict. Morrowind purists couldn't keep me from loving Oblivion, so I'm sure I won't agree with fallout fans. Bethesda is going to do what it does best, why should they try and emulate another developer?

New Screens (Probably Hatorade for the naysayers)

As previously mentioned, I believe that he has done the voice work on the prior 2 games. I think everyone is being a little too harsh on Fallout 3. I'm still going to give it a chance. I loved the first 2 games, but like every other great game, there is no going back. We'll just have to wait and see how this one turns out.

I think you got it the wrong way around. Without Ron Perlman Fallout 3 would be ruined. The intro at least :P.

Edit: Ron Perlman

My personal ..loathing.. for Oblivion, and lack of trust in Bethesta, i still don't think Fallout 3 could be nearly as good as it's predecessors. First, no matter what, we won't see the same type of brutal, gritty and overall badass world. It wouldn't be, how do they say, politically correct. God forbid someone would in any way swear or sell sex in a game. because we all know that is what is driving people to murder >_>
Second, it IS bethesta. Not that it will automaticly suck becuase of that, but i;ve noticed how they seem to gear more towards making Fallout a graphics showcase, than an actual game. *cough, oblivion, cough*

The past fallouts were known for their nonlinear gameplay. Bethesda has always been king at that. That'w why I have some faith in Fallout 3. If you want your typical linear jrpg plot, then this game will surely disappoint. It's going to have a lot of open ended decision making that may confuse those not accustomed to having options.

Have you looked at any screens whatsoever? Blood, grit, and brutal gore are immensely popular in mainstream gaming today, so there goes your PC argument. In other words a brutal, gritty, badass world would not only be politically correct, but may help to generate sales. Why do you think Bethesda chose to pursue the Fallout name? I really don't have any idea what you're talking about, or on what grounds you're basing you argument.

Edit: Fallout 3 already looks ten times better than the cutscenes in the previous games, but is done in a way that holds true to the way the areas looked in those movies, which will eliminate the need for cutscenes which IMO take away from a game's immersion.

Oh yeah:

OXM Fallout 3 Preview

Taken From The OXM Preview:

Bethesda's using the turn-based pause to deliver a powerful payoff: When the shots are fired, you'll see them land in the flesh of your enemy from one of several cinematic angles. And it's from those dramatic fly-bys and follow-cams that you'll realize the Vault's quaint 1950s vibe is merely a distraction for the fountains of blood and gleeful amounts of gore that highlight Fallout 3. "I think it's more in the Tarantino fashion, which is to have some fun with it," says Howard. "It keeps it almost surreal. All these posters and the music are winking, but when guys die, it's over-the-top. It's rendered really nicely, so on some level, it's believable — but it's ridiculous. That's the point."
"It would be a lot less fun without that level of gore," adds Pagliarulo. "It's part of the visceral experience. You laugh your ass off when you see a mutant's leg get blown off. It never gets old — it hasn't yet.

…And I Feel Fine
And that's the final piece of gear you'll need to pack before your vacation at the end of the world: a wicked sense of humor. "It's so depressing that you have to see the humor in it," says Pagliarulo. "If not, you'll lose your mind or slit your wrists. Part of your brain refuses to admit it will ever happen, so you have to look at it and laugh. The dark humor of talking to an old lady who's really nice to you, and then you blow her head off, put her head on a counter, and pretend to talk to her…there's a certain charm to that."

I think too many people are jumping on the "Fallout 3 sucks" bandwagon before the game is even out. I'm a big fan of the first 2 games, but I don't have a problem with the formula being changed given nearly a decade in between installments.

I think the only legitimate worry is that they won't be able to make the actual world interesting. Oblivion was terrific, but everything was really bland. Fallout is known for having it's own unique post-apocolyptic retro-future, and I don't know if Bethesda can make the game dark and serious, but funny at the same time. From a presentation standpoint, Bethesda is really going to have to step it up, and I'm hoping they do.

Ron Perlman was great for the first two Fallouts. So theres no doubt in my mind he'll do the same work this time.

As for the the "hate". I think this installment will be great on its own merits and that's how I'll look at it. I too like the majority of Fallout fans wanted Betheseda to leave off from where the original development team was making Van Buren - An isometric point and click rpg. This game will be never be a true succesor in my eyes but it won't hurt my enjoyment of it.

I find if I become miserable about upcoming games then I'm easier to please when I play them - I've been disappointed so many times after expecting a miracle, as various previews will often exaggerate strengths and minimize flaws.

I will admit that as details trickle out I've become far less resistant to the idea of Bethesda doing Fallout, but the one thing that still concerns me is dialogue - Fallout relied a lot on character interaction for humour and for quests, and going by Morrowind and Oblivion (both fine games in their own right) one of the things Bethesda cannot do, period, is dialogue.

Yeah, he'll totally ruin the leveling up system...and the combat system. The day I buy a game on the merits of its narration, I'll....probably buy the game on the merits of its narration. Fallout 3 is more then narration, sucka.

comparing Morrowind and Oblivion to Fallout is simply an unfair comparison.

how about a challenge. You come up with 2000 totally different characters and I'll come up with 15, We'll see whose characters have better dialogue and personalities... Ready, Set, Go!

I worded that wrong. What I meant to refer to was that Fallout felt like a living breathing board game. Putting it into 3rd Person which is a much more immersive (a different kind at least) takes the whole feel and play stylle of the game.

I mean to contrast it would be like putting Condemed in a side-scrolling manner.

Sorry for the poor use of wording.

I think the graphics switch is going to be amazing. I remember how Super Mutants and Aliens were supposed to be intimidating in the Fallout games but I never get intimidated by an ugly sprite. I can't wait to go into a building and see a group of hulking, armed mutants, crap my pants, change them, and then keep playing.

I get the same vibe from this game. I am immensely excited to see what Bethesda can do with this game, it has the potential to be a GOTY candidate. Remember when GTA made the jump from isometric to 3rd person sandbox, well Fallout 3 has the same potential for greatness.

I could state my reasons why I disagree with this, but I have a feeling that we'd just end up going in circles.

Regardless I'd prefer that they'd make Fallout 3 as a 3D game that carries on to the mechanics rather then just simply a 2D to 3D transition.

Looking at history most successful 2D to 3D transitions significantly changed their gameplay and added other possitives to adapt: Super Mario 64, Metroid Prime, Ninja Gaiden, etc.

Myself being an interplay loyalist, would like to add to this debate, honestly i feel that bethesda is going to destroy fallout fundamentals, and make this game for the average gammer, which honestly saddens me because fallout was meant for the more in depth gamer who enjoys complicated scenarios and yes there probably will be a "hard mode" but it wont be the same, the conversion from an rts style format to a fps/3rdperson shooter is going to remove all the fundamentals of fallout, i dont really care that they even kept the AP because its only used for the v.a.t.s. system and from what i've experienced the system is basicly for those people who do not want the full experience, its an overpowered system and ruins the gameplay, its basicly your get out of jail free card, and i honestly hate it, also from what i've expereinced it has some very big graphic and engine flaws, two examples ill share with you, one is a sniper rifle to the head with the v.a.t.s. system should not break off every appendage, and two an smg should not be able to completely shred a person's body without "hours" of constant fire and i have seen the v.a.t.s. system do both of these with single shots

Also i would like to add, dialogue was esential to Fallout gameplay, and from what i've expereinced with both marrowind, and oblivion, the dialogue was, to be blunt, "lacking" Fallout dialogue meant everything in the first 2 it was included in everything you did, from side quests and main quests to gaining money, items, weapons, armor, etc.. but dialogue was so important that it could mean having a friend, buying cheaper equipment, a joke, life, death, a cookie, or getting q job for a couple of caps, and from what i've seen the dialogue in fallout 3 looks...like to be more of the same bethesda genre.

Also i would like to remind the Fallout fans, where did Tactics leave us off with the plot? with the canadian BOS reuniting with the USA BOS, Although im not certain if bethesda plans to have it in another game i dont know, but they are not including this crucial part of the fallout story line. Also i would like to point out, i may be wrong on this as to i havn't played Fallout 2 in a while, but to the best of my knowledge wasn't the enclave destroyed for the better part? Now i understand that this is not on the eastern edge of the US but from what i can recall they were...so im lets say befudled that the enclave is even in fallout 3.

And at last but not least, i would like to give my opinion, that honestly the "Nuke Tosser" or w/e is the equivilant to the BFG 9000, i mean honestly.... a nuke cannon..... will someone remind me if there was ever something so extravegant in any of the fallout games, because im drawing a blank here...

Its not ruined it far from being ruined it would only be ruin if it was like the previous fallouts a slow grind of tedious combat.

THis chap has voiced the previous games ands sounds right for the part.

This is going to be great games have moved on so it being like what it was would be crap and even you lot who want it would say so when playing because you wanted more but didn't like it being in the fast fun real time combat.

You can say its bad when it comes out before then keep your mouth shut.
