So both are goty contenders of last year but I have to choose one. I have never played a souls game so I'm tempted to buy bloodborne to see why people love these games so much. Not going for dark souls 3 yet cuz I wanna wait for the complete edition. And if I've already played witcher 3 would I be disappointed with fallout 4?

Well both are very different from each other. I say go for bloodborne goty edition as it contains the dlc and get fallout 4 goty edition once it comes out.

easily Bloodborne, I think Bethesda went back to the Gamebryo well one too many times with Fallout 4, that engine is just too shitty to tolerate at this point imo

This. I havent played Bloodborne, but its basically a souls games, and Im a huge souls fan (except for DS3 which runs like garbage so far). FO4 is a stripped down Fallout game. They completely paired away 90% of the rpg elements. The missions are mostly the same, it doesnt run great despite looking like crap, and a lot of the Fallout soul is gone from it too.

Bloodborne will be better this way. Fallout 4 is not that game you can admire a lot, I find this creation a little bit strange comparing to other parts and RPGs in genral.

Sadly, I have to go with Bloodborne. That's not to say Bloodborne is a bad game, it is AWESOME!! It brings Lovecraft themes into a dark world from the creators of Dark Souls and while I was worried about not having a shield to use in the game, the dodging is hella fun! especially during intense boss fights. The game with dlc lasted me a good 70 hours with exploring all the chalice dungeons, platinuming it, and finding all the weapons and some gear. I'll get back to it eventually.

The reason I start out with Sadly is because Fallout 4 had so much going for it, especially given how they cleaned up at E3 almost a year ago. If I remember correctly, after their announcement and that 14 minute introduction video of the game, Gamespot and all other sites were going crazy about the game. It was such a big deal because many of us still remember how awesome Fallout 3 and New Vegas were when they came out and shattered our minds with the quests and post-apocalyptic open world atmosphere....

Then Fallout 4 actually came out and it was a huge letdown in the quests department. Sure you can mod your weapons, the gunplay is much smoother like an FPS, you can build settlements and make cool creative looking structures, the radio has more oldies music and includes some classics from the previous game, the protagonist is voiced...but it is as shallow as Skyrim is with either retrieving stuff for an NPC or killing enemies for an NPC for some caps or a mod or whatever. It doesn't feel like a true RPG anymore sadly.

So yeah, go for Bloodborne. It's harder, frustrating even, and it is technically shorter (although NG+ modes will add oodles of hours for the difficulty ramping up), but it is more CREATIVE. And that is what is missing from Bethesda's newer games (Fallout 4 and Skyrim for the most part).

Do you want to explore a FPS world with a dog, or play a Horror game that has very good 3rd person combat?

Although i'm agree with you on that, i think you could produce a profounder comment, Fallout 4 is a great game.

@nirogol: I enjoyed Fallout 4 for what it is, in fact it's the only FO game I actually like.

But I think Bethesda games are always about the adventure, not the journey. If you think otherwise? That's perfectly fine.

@RSM-HQ: I've never played any of the fallout games nor the souls games so I'm going to be going in without any expectations whatsoever which I think is a good thing for me. I'll wait for the fallout complete edition cuz at the moment the dlc doesn't look to be worth the price tag.

Btw do a lot of random encounters occur in fallout? I really really love stumbling across random events. In fact although I love witcher 3, the random events that they put in, though still awesome feel very scripted. I mean obviously random events aren't exactly random. Like gta5 has lots of them and they aren't technically random. So what I really mean is things happening that the developer didn't really think about.

Could you find 2 more different games?

Do you want a open world exploration game that will grow and expand as the expansions come out or do you want a short game with almost no replayability and a lot of trial and error.

If you want to go for the first than it´s Fallout, the last Bloodborne.

Also Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 are also 2 different games. But if you really do want to compare them, it depends on you and what you look for.

Storywise i would rank Fallout above Witcher, Map size Witcher 3 wins hands down.

@BboyStatix: Sadly Fallout 4 comes across as pretty scripted, you get little easter-eggs such as the developers dressing up a certain city when it's an actual holiday, but otherwise FO4 is just a open world with respawnable enemies, usually in the same places you've already diced them. Limb shooting is pretty satisfying though and will give you hours of fun.

Too different to compare, depends on the persons tastes. But I personally go with Fallout 4 for the open world and relaxing exploration.

I was obsessed with Fallout 4, until one day I just wasn't anymore. I haven't even completed the story, but the things you can do and get into in that game along the way is pure awesomeness.

If you are interested in the Dark Souls games, I would just play those. I didn't really like Bloodborne much, and I'm a huge souls fan.

Also BB if you want potential challenges, FO4 is super easy from start to end. Even on survival.

I made my position already but i have to give you another background, there's no ordinary save points at Bloodborne, although it saves itself all the time, it's not a usual game, you have to be a little twisted minded to love it, it's more niche game than Fallout 4 for sure.

@nirogol: Like other FROM games the save system is to work with how the game responds to dying. If you could save manually it would damage the flow of how these games are built. The only safe way to finish a session is to kill all argoed enemies and quit to main menu.

@RSM-HQ:

Yeah you're right...still for a From Software newcomer (like I was before playing Bloodborne) it's strange and requires adaptation.

Especially at the game first hours, you expect from every game to start soft and become though afterwards, Bloodborne starts at high pulse and the saving method could be frustrating.

Haven't played Fallout 4, but have heard it is disappointing and it sounds like it will be forgotten over time.

Bloodborne on the other hand is an absolute CLASSIC that will be remembered along WITH the other Souls games.

It is true that From games are a bit of a niche, but at the same time that niche factor means that if it is up your alley you will LOVE IT!

I will say I personally have put well over a 100 hours on Bloodborne and even with that, I have moved on to Dark Souls 3 with which I am having a blast (even with the frustration that can occur in those games).

If you liked the Witcher I definitely recommend checking out Bloodborne as it pretty well MURDERS The Witcher in the gameplay department.

@nirogol: @RSM-HQ: I just hope it's not like Nioh... played the demo and disliked it. Not because it was hard, but because the fighting didn't feel fluid to me. Bloodborne looks a lot smoother but if it's anything like Nioh... count me out haha.

@LostProphetFLCL: well that's great to hear cuz i already found witcher 3's swordplay to be a ton of fun on death march.

@BboyStatix:

I didn't played Nioh, I've heard about it and watched the gameplay, it didn't impress me at all, anyway i can't compare between both by looking, I can only tell you that Bloodborne's crown jewel is it's combat, it's fluid, aggressive, punishing and rewarding of course.

I think this time wasting is a guise for their half baked story, quests, and world atmosphere. I'm seriously pissed at BEthesda. Skyrim was just a lame Oblivion upgrade, hardly changing much, and F04 is actually a regression from the previous game.

@BboyStatix: Well don't hold me responsible if you're not a fan :P Bloodborne sadly lacks a demo but the actual combat is faster than DkS but still focuses on a stamina meter.

I haven't tried Nioh. After Ninja Gaiden 3 and Yaiba I'm surprised people are having faith that Team Ninja is still a credible developer.

FROM SOFTWARE however only seem to make better games recently and that's a very good thing. Great developer and I hope what they do with the DkSIII DLC is special as well :)

@BboyStatix: It has very little in common with The Witcher 3.

Bloodborne is very light on RPG elements, and level design is linear, with that the maps are designed to encourage exploration. It's heavily focused on the combat mechanics which is its main-praised feature.

TW3 in a lot of way is a more faithful RPG, while BB is closer to a Action horror game. However BB has far better combat to the point it's not worth comparing.

It'll be my last post here because i'm starting to sound like a public relations person, get Bloodborne, and get it now while the online community isn't completely dead, it's a crazy action - adventure - survival game made by lunatic creative bunch of talented Japanese, in my opinion it's the best game you can play on PS4 for now (until may 10th lol), and enjoy mate, if it's gonna catch you, you'll start to love it!

Mamba is Out!

maybe you're just so good at creating settlements that have no defensive weakness that they can't be attacked or infiltrated and the npc ai is smart enough to recognise that and thus leaves you alone. i don't think you've stopped to consider that maybe bethesda has managed to create ai so advanced it can recognise these things and respond in such a way and that's why you're not seeing anything happen at your settlements and it's not actually because they're completely pointless, meaningless and tacked on for no other reason than to pad / fill the game out features?

I havent had a settlement with low defense attacked in forever. And besides, all that ever happens is a mad, 30 second skirmish with 5-6 super mutants or raiders. It's not thought or fleshed out well.

@hillelslovak: sorry that was my poor attempt at sarcasm. i was disappointed in it too. if the whole faction thing wasn't so dull and one dimensional and there was some kind of local warlord / tribe type shadow of mordor nemesis type system thing going on, the settlement thing could've had tons of potential and been practically a game in itself

Yeah, they could have had full storylines with a raider leader attacking you, or challenging you, and other raider factions fighting them, you caught in the middle etc. You could make deals with one faction to eliminate on ethats attacking you. That would be awesome.

hours wise Fallout 4 for sure, I'd only recommend it if you enjoy open world fps games

bloodborne i would recommend if you like very involved combat games, you would go into it and expect to die a few times.
